I enjoy DIY projects - anything from automotive, small engine repair, wood working, home projects, electronics, you name it.
This channel started with a series of videos i made to document a major engine repair on a motorcycle i bought, and has since expanded a bit to be a home for any of the projects i feel like doing videos of. I'm a one-man-operation (who also has a day job and 4 kids), and I'm also a big believer in "quality over quantity"...so video uploads can be infrequent.
Anyhow, thanks for visiting - if you like this type of content, the best way to support for free is to simply like/comment/share my videos and subscribe to the channel. If you also want to chip in a buck or two, I would love you for it, and it would definitely help fund more projects 😁. www.buymeacoffee.com/lightningfrog27

HarvestRight Freeze Dryer: stuck on "Starting up..." SOLVED
HarvestRight freeze dryers work great until they dont. I've seen a lot of people with this problem, but no consistent solutions. I discovered something that fixed the problem for me and several others. Sharing with the internet to hopefully help someone out somewhere someday.

You didn't indicate what percentage of acid is needed.
For the battery I bought, all I had to do was fill the cells with all the acid provided....didn't have to worry about percent full or percent dilution
Great video tutorial
just a quick question: Can you do some DIY to replace that Bulb with an LED?
Not sure if you’ll see this so long after these videos were made, but thanks to you I was able to get my first bike running with only about $1k in it, truly appreciate these guides!
Thanks for taking a moment to share your kind words...really brightens my day. My channel isn't big, so I still read every comment 😎
Is the rear sprocket meant to wiggle a tiny bit forward and backwards mine seems to do it when I put it in gear or if I move it with my hand
No, the rear sprocket should be rigidly fixed to the rear wheel.
I used your instructions to successfully replace the bulb in my ViewSonic PJD5555W. The opening hatch is on the top side, but all other instructions were exactly the same. Thank you.
Yo can u put a 300cc on a 250 frame ?
🤷♂️ It SEEMS like it should be possible, but I don't know if any of the engine mounting bolts or positions are different between the 250 and 300. Same for wire harness and ECU. Just need someone to try it out and tell us!
@@lightningfrog27 I might do it today
@d33jackson44 nice! Let us know how it goes!! Or even better, make a video and post share your experience on the cbr300 forums 😎
@@lightningfrog27 I’m not that good at the whole videoing things. lol
Just a update the 300 like a glove
could you tell me how to remove the big hose from the fuel gas line? Your video did not include that,
Take a look at the diagram shown at 1:15 and tell me which connection you're specifically referring to.
@@lightningfrog27 You probably included that but I did not see it clearly. My bike is 2013 honda cbr 500r, therefore it looks a bit different. The reason I like to see it because when I see you do it, I will probably have some idea how to take it off. I think you know what to do if you see my picture. It is hard for me to figure out on the diagram which one.
I think I might have the cbr500 factory service manual at home. If you give me your email address, I can send you the relevant section when I get home from work
Thanks for a quick and straightforward video. Saved lots of money. 😊
Am I weird for thinking this bike in particular looks really dope without the fairings?
Nah, I think it's surprisingly good without the side fairings too I imagine that's one of the reasons the "naked" style of bike exists commercially.
@@lightningfrog27 Saw an all black CBR300 without farings and it looked so aggressive. Was really sweet. Changed my view on the bikes aesthetics significantly. A naked Ninja won't look quite like that. Great guide btw bro, you've helped out a lot of people.
I wish I could be sure it isn't obsolete, but I am quite curious about how a lead acid battery would behave if it was charged to full capacity before having it's acid removed. Would it be fully charged if you put the acid back in? How long could it sit before it is only able to come back with a half charge, or if it would ever not be able to regain its full original charge. If it never reaches a state of not being able to regain its full charge again, I'd wager to say a drained car battery would be the best kind of jump starter you could ask for, or should I say indefinite battery replacement. Any idea? Thanks.
Cheers from Concord, NC! I am in the process of replacing the crankshaft on a 2016 CBR300RA and these videos have been EXTREMELY helpful. Thank you for posting these! For the para cord trick, I used the same concept but with zip ties as I was out of cord. Worked like a charm!!
Glad they help, and thanks for taking the time to drop into the comments. Really makes my day :)
If I wanted to remove the bottom fairing, do the sides have to come off as well? Great videos by the way!
There's a chart in the video at about 0:23 or 0:24 that shows the removal dependencies. Looks like the middle cowl does need to be removed to get at the bottom fairing. Good luck, and thanks for the kind words!! 😊
@@lightningfrog27 thanks!
Thanks for making this video!
Thank you! This seems to have worked for me. So glad it was such an easy fix.
Can I put a H9 for long beam and H7 for short beam? I have a CBR300rr 2015
Not sure 🤷♂️. If the H9 bulb has the same size/shape socket, it might work? If you end up trying it out, be sure to report back so other folks can know the answer!
i tried your fix and my clock was correct. so it did not work. i contacted harvest right tech support. they sent my a software fix. so far it seems to be working. they call it a loop fix. which seems to be what it was doing. stuck in a loop. they should put that on the software update they have on their website.
Thank you, worked great for a PG706HD. In this case there are two screws, one either side which you loosen. All the rest the same as your video. Very helpful.
hi, will the same steps apply to model PX704HD? Thanks
Maybe? I'm not sure though....I've never opened up that model number. If it does work, please report back so future viewers can find your answer!
everything on my dash works and lights up, however my highbems blue light don’t show up and my headlights aren’t working are i just replaced them what to do?
Id start by checking everything on the 12 v side. Are you getting 12 from the DC DC converter? Is there 12 v at the fuse box? Basically just need to trace out where the signal falls off, and that should point to the problem
The clown team at Harvest Right would have never figured this out. I just paid 500 dollars to have them fix my crappy unit, under warranty, and they sent it back with a dead clock battery. Harvest Right is the worst scammer company in the U.S.
What screw diameter did you use?
6 inch 😎
@@lightningfrog27 The 6" diameter on mcmaster only has a 1/16" edge thickness. Is that what you had? It seems paper thin. I will also be excavating dirt out of an egress window cut. Our crawlspace excavation will be 27 yards. I just want to make sure I'm getting something that suits my project demands. I see you also didn't have a very steep angle. My trough would be at about a 35-40 degree angle. Do you think that would be an issue? Thanks!
I got mine from McMaster too! It does seem thin, but remember that the trough itself doesn't actually have a lot of load on it... really just the weight of the dirt and also the auger. I was driving the 10 foot auger with a small electric post hole digger from Amazon....just had to get an adapter made to connect the much larger screw to the 3/4 receiver on the post-hole digger. Also, I wouldnt be too worried about any angle below about 45 degrees. I had my brother inside the basement with a shovel scooping into the trough while I was running the auger...and whenever I let go he knew he could take a break while I dumped the dirt. One other tip...I used a bearing at the bottom, and initially hard-mounted the auger end to the trough. That ended up binding whenever a rock came through. Worked out better to just let gravity hold the auger into the trough at the drive end. Happy to give more details on the project if you like. Maybe easier through email or something?
@@lightningfrog27Could you please forward some details to me?
What info/details are you looking for?
can you remove the cylinder without pulling the engine?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ No idea, but I'd guess probably not. Even if you could, I don't think you'd want to just due to wrench access, ergonomics, and the possibility of stuff falling down into the crank case. If you try it and figure it out, please report back and/or make a video!
@@lightningfrog27 Thanks 👍
Does anyone know if you can remove the cylinder without pulling the engine
Super bro
Greatly appreciated brother!!
Glad my video could help!
This guy is such a god man... I wish mc manf would make video series like this... like why does not Honda pay this guys like this 10k and a free bike to make a series like this?
Thanks so much for the kind words man. I do kinda wish i could quit my job and just do youtube videos about motorcycles and other stuff i enjoy.....but it's a long hard road to get enough subscribers and watch hours to get the big OEMs to even notice, let alone sponsor me.....and honestly, the youtube algorithm doesnt really reward the concise informational content that i make. That said, i really do feel good knowing that my videos are helpful to folks like you 😎
How many hours did it take from start to finish to remove the engine?
Dropping the engine out is pretty quick if you know all the steps and you have the right tools handy. Id guess less than 2 hrs.
What was the total cost and time involved for this?
Time is hard to gage because I spent so much time setting up the video camera and long delays between work days due to editing, plus digging through the service manual and Internet forums...but with that as a caveat, id guess the total wrench turning time for the whole project start to finish was less than 20 hrs, and total $$ spent was less than $300
Quick tips on the REAR sprocket: use the axle to keep the sprocket/Housing assembly on the rear wheel. LOOSEN THE BOLTS FROM THE NUTS, NOT THE HEX. Use your allen key to holt the bolt head while applying all the torque to the nut to avoid stripping. Little trick I learned on dirtbikes. Cheers.
When you start the bike “Pray” 😅
Haha...yeah, I was really nervous - if something was not assembled correctly I could have caused more damage to the engine. Really glad it worked out 😁
This didn’t solve it for me but I DID notice the last batch that ran never advanced the “batch clock” it said it completed in 1:17 hours. I think you’re on to something with this and my time clock WAS wrong so I fixed it and it’s not working still. Erg!
Did you ever find a solution??
Holding a tiny 300cc up by hand easy, but try that with a 1000cc lol plus a lot of bikes don't have a sight glass
Then you use a special stick integrated with the oil filler cap 👍
6:40 jesus christ don't film directly into the bulb lens like that. Are you trying to blind people?
You rock man great info!
So for some reason my acid for my new battery all isn’t taking , only one tank is dry, the others are varying levels, they only take if I tap the bottles and that isn’t a defined thing either
I just had that issue after and outpower, i downloaded the files from the troubleshooting harvestright, didn't work, then i call costumer service and contact technician he sent me other files and work perfect
It worked for me. Thank you!!!
Motocycle battery ?
Yeah, the battery in the video is for a 2015 CBR300R motorcycle.
I tried this! The clock was indeed not correct so I changed it to the right time and still nothing. Thank you anyway..
I am stuck on start up just like you described!!! I am about to go down and try this solution!! Pray for me!! This machine is too expensive to fail and it’s almost brand new!!!!
Please report back if it works. Good luck!!
Get your money back if you still can. It will be one cost after another.
I ordered the exact bulb for my 2015 cbr300. The installation was like on a car (simple). They looked just like yours, however, when using turn signals it would flash turnsignal then headlight with no stop. Also, the bike wouldnt start with the led headlights in. Everything is stock. I took them out ans put in the original bulbs. It started up fine and turn signals worked as expected. Any advice???
How did the lights look after you installed the leds? Did it light up the road pretty good?
They looked great! Similar position and throw on the road, just white instead of orange, and a decent bit brighter 😎
Does it matter which direction the acid is put in ?
Do you mean which order? No, I think it doesn't matter either you do any individual cell before the others as long as you fill all of them within a few minutes of each other.
any update? im thinking about going electric, and wondering how your results were?
I haven't made much progress.... partially because I've been pretty busy, but also I've been pretty worried that I'll screw up the next part. One of the things I did recently that I haven't made a video about - I built an electric go kart. Was super helpful for understanding the electrical layout and drive train. Hopefully I'll have more time to work on it this summer!

Wondering ifmyoumever finished this?
😅 not yet. I've still got about 2 $2k worth of new parts in boxes waiting for me to find the time and motivation to figure it out. I did build an electric gokart last year as a sort of skill building project....so I feel like I understand it a little better. Hopefully I can make time for it this summer!
Thanks, my bike would tell me it’s 5 am at 9 pm 😂
trying this on cb500x which is pretty similar to yours, except the clutch stake is a beefy beefy piece of steel. I ended up pushing a part of it into the gap and now is proper stuck. FML
Thanks , I'll check mine as well . Done many updates to my large , filters , rewired the relay heater system , added a vent system instead of the drain (goofy) .Not as good as the SF but way better . VT
To anyone that wants to avoid putting a towel in your engine, just buy a MotionPro brand gear jammer. Costs a few bucks and is able to take the load of torquing the bolts just fine.
