Person who lived in Moscow for more tgan 6 years here. It’s not as shiny as you try to show it. Speaking about taxes: there are hidden taxes which are around 30%, but they are paid by your employer. So if you open a business, you will pay a lot. Secondly, food quality is nowhere near I experienced it in southern europe. It’s like anywhere in the developing world: very cheap and not healthy (with some rare exceptions). You can’t buy good cheese or ham, no matter how much you pay. Wine is very expensive also. And if you work in Moscow, the median salary is around 20000 pounds per year, but if you work remotely, it is really hard to transfer your money there: western credit cards doesn’t work in Russia, nor does SWIFT. So you are forced to either use crypto, or take all your money in cash beforehand. But the most important thing for me is the political change after the war started. Before the war Moscow was one of the best cities in the world (except weather), now it’s just another dictatorship capital, very depressing. That’s why I moved from there forever.

The good thing - Russia due to its history, culture and strong morality is attracting smart, motivated, educated people from all over the world -many of the people I know. That’s the kind of immigration you want - not uncontrolled immigration from unfriendly places. It’s still also one of the hardest countries to immigrate to (outside of CSO/USSR countries) - bureaucracy is an art in Russia - so if people achieve it from UK USA CA EU AU NZ and anywhere else not traditional - they are the best of the best! Welcome them )

I've been to Scotland in the summer of 2014, 10 years ago. Wow, time flies! It still feels like it was a year or two ago. I visited Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Glenfinnan. It was amazing and it's a pite that I couldn't visit more places. As a tourist, I loved it so much. I found Edinburgh to be a perfect combination and equilibrium between historical and modern aspects, as well as the sea, despite being cold it's stunning to be close to the sea and hills at the same time. Then I visited the Lake District in England and spoke to some British people. Paradoxically, they had never been to Scotland, even though it's so close. They were surprised that I loved it so much and made dozens of compliments about the nature and architecture, but I understand that not everyone in England take Scotland for granted and also it happens all over the world, also with russians as well, we do not appreciate what we have and what is close to us. I'm from Moscow and I am very glad that you did an honest review. It's always great to see foreigners who appreciate Russia, because we are always kind of traumatizedhat, at least I felt and continue to feel so, that we are traumatized by the mass media and western governments painting us in a negative light. Thank you once more time!

I love visiting local Russian Center on Sutter. They have a sweet museum celebrating Russians who fled through Harbin in the 1920’s. I met a Tsarist soldier there at Russian festival in the 1990’s. In the West, many also do not know that among the losses of Russia/the USSR out of 27 million people, only 8 million were military, i.e. 19 million people were civilians, killed, tortured in concentration camps, burned alive or starved to death. Among these 19 million civilians are 2 million Soviet Jews out of a total of 6 million who died during the Holocaust. These figures need to be known and compared to understand the losses of Soviet/Russian citizens during the Great Patriotic War. I.e., to understand the severity of the victims and the depth of the genocide, it is also necessary to compare with the losses of America and Britain. America lost 418,000 soldiers, and Britain lost 380,000. And the Soviet Union has only 19 million civilians. And now Russia is fighting again with the heirs of those Nazi beasts who committed their atrocities during World War II.

Many foreigners do not know that, in fact, the Second World War did not begin in 1939, when Hitler attacked Poland, but earlier, with the attack of Hitler and Poland on Czechoslovakia, in 1938 with the participation of Britain, France and Italy. This is the Munich agreement, without which Hitler's industrial formation would have been impossible, since there was an industry for tanks in Czechoslovakia. But, in the West, it is not accepted to talk about it and remember it and it is forbidden. Otherwise, their role in the formation of Hitler will be clear.

English natives with a RP accent tend to judge others purely because of the accent. This applies not only to the immigrants but to their compatriots from other parts of the UK . This is incomprehensible to me really - it creates invisible discrimination within society and for those who don't have the "right" accent the social ascent (it's funny how it rhymes:) is so much harder. I realised early on that no matter how well -mannered the English come across, they will look down at you as inferior to them if you do not meet their standards of communication 😢

You're confusing tourism with emigration. What makes you think you can come to Moscow and live here and invite everyone? Are you tired of living in your homeland and want to come here, where it's cheap, quiet and clean for you? And did the honored guests not forget to ask the hosts if you are needed here and what benefit you can bring to the citizens of Russia and the country as a whole? This isn't a courtyard where anyone can go. The arrogance of Westerners just crosses the line. Bring with you investments, capital, technology, knowledge and skills, rare professions and manufactures, learn Russian, volunteer for the front, for the Donbass, if you want to be part of our society ...We have plenty of our own bloggers idly wandering around Moscow. But we welcome tourists here. The right to live here, however, must be earned...Sorry for being blunt.
