no, not scared to visit Russia.
But obtaining a tourist visa is PROPER awkward now!. Perhaps once upon a time you could do the application for a tourist visa purely online, but now they are charging £50 for a face to face interview at their last remaining open consulate, in London, 200 miles away from me!.
I have no more paid leave from work, so I can't even arrange to get a tourist visa, plus, I figure that I would have to book the flight and hotel first to get the travel dates for my visa.
I would be looking at summer 2025 now (assuming we all live that long!).
Also, with regard to the reception you get from the Russian folk Jim, I know relations between the UK and Russia are low at this moment in time, but when Russian people start dying from fragments of British missiles, I wouldn't expect to receive the same reception from the Russian people after that.
I admire the Russian people for their patience and more importantly their maturity in knowing that we are not responsible for the actions of our respective governments, however, that patience has limits. How long it remains before the Russian people reach breaking point and vent their anger against you is just a matter of time.
A few months ago, Trump got nearly assassinated, and for a brief moment, the American people came to their senses and went visibly mad at the media because quite rightly so, the media had stoked the hostility that caused someone to take matters into his own hands and attempt to take Trumps life.
How long will it be before the Russian's blame you for the damage caused by our Storm Shadow missiles?
You see, I would be an example of someone with the right attitude in another country. I would know that I am a guest in someone else's house and would behave respectfully. However, I would feel very awkward as that guest because unfortunately my country is an enemy combatant. Maybe not so directly, but that is just a matter of time.
I remember feeling something very similar when I was invited to the USA for the 4th of July week in 2018. However my host could see that I felt a little "awkward" being British at a time when the American's were celebrating kicking our collective arses 242 years prior. However the young lady I was with tried to comfort me by saying that 4 out of 5 American's don't even know what the 4th of July celebrations was about!.
Now in the years since then, I genuinely have started to believe that the American's are really that dumb! 🤣🤣
However, I make no such assertions about the Russian's. I know all too well that every Russian knows what the great patriotic war was about and I respect them for that.
One thing me and Trump agree on..........this is not about who wins and who loses. It's about stopping the fighting!. It's about stopping the killing!. If we have to be so immature as to only accept an end when there is a winner and a loser, then we all lose!.
I simply do not see Russia or the Russian people as my enemy. My real enemy, to be quite honest is NATO!. It became a malignant entity from the moment the Berlin wall fell. It should have never expanded eastwards and the dumb yanks should learn to bury the hatchet!. If the first cold war had a winner, it was the USA and they should rest their laurels on that and stop trying to rub everybody's noses in it like they have, every day since!.
But, because they couldn't bury the hatchet, a new cold war has begun and this time, through their own stupidity, they ain't going to win this one!.
Even if the fighting stops in the Yuk-rane, the USA has made serious blunders with it's attempts to control other countries through confiscation of assets and sanctions........other nations have been watching, and more and more nations are become distrustful of using the US monetary system. They brough this upon themselves.
      Anyway, rant over!.
Let's hope Trump get's elected, because if that dumb cow gets in we're all phucked!

Ive been visiting for 30 years. Ive just done 3 months and hope to be back in December.
My Russian is horrible so I speak I English all the time. Given the hate being promoted in the West especial US UK I sometime get embarrest because they should have more than enough reason to hate but they dont.
Hate is NOT a Russian thing. I talk openly even on packed trains.
Russians under 40 are more likely to speak some English. Generaly eveb if you cant speak English someone will always try to help.
If you do strike up a coversation and get let in you might eventualy reach a spot where they ask a burning question.
Why do the West hate us so much?
There is almost no crime. For a city of 14 million thats unheard of in the West.
Every year the police presence seem to reduce.
I prefer Moscow and fell safer and more welcome there than in NY City, London or Paris.

Has a Russian ever asked "Why do the west hate us so much?"
I wouldn't have thought they would have asked such a question, because, and I am making a wild guess here...........
The Russian's went through this period themselves. From the 1950's thru to the 1980's the Russians were the ones who put up the wall in Berlin, had the secret police and were more than a little paranoid perhaps of the west?
So, perhaps having seen this "phase" in their own existence, they may be a little more forgiving towards us because, in a way, we are behaving no different to the way they used to behave. Present company excepted of course. After all, most people commenting on video's like this, have more of an open mind than the average "drone", or "sheep".

    • @Errouy1

People have no hatred for those who came as guests or came to live in Russia because their countries are not traditional, I doubt if anyone came with a bad opinion. 2.5 million Ukrainians have fled to Russia and no one is cutting each other. The hatred is mostly due to stupidity and hypocrisy of people, just many people living far away from the war lost their humanity and began to enjoy Russian deaths through hellish brainwashing. Although part of the population of Russia the closer to the front they character has changed very much 3 years of war. If you look before in interviews about the attitude of Russians to foreigners all kinds of bloggers, now it is a little different, the war changes people very much.
      p.s
And yes Russia is not a safe country, you still need to wear aerosol cans and order cabs from people of Slavic ethnicity, in Russia most of the danger is migrants and people from the Caucasus

I'll be honest Jim, I caught your name when you introduced yourself, if I was 30 years younger and someone came up to me and said, "here's a ticket to go to Moscow", I would go in a blink of an eye!
But sadle I'm not 30 years younger so there would be nothing I could really offer the Country and make a home for my family. Many years ago I lived in what was then Rhodesia and Zimbabwe, and at that time we had very strict tradional and religeous values. For instance in we were sitting at a table and a lady present excused herself all the men would get off their seats until she left, the same if she came back. It was just respect and it came naturally. Very different to todays society. Of course things have changed, but the respect remains. I lived there for many years from when I was a child.
I find it quite ironic because back then in Rhodesia when I was in the security forces, Russia was our enemy, now I am more akin to their way of thinking now - strange, but true.
    Thanks again Jim.

It's funny that you met that young woman in the park who said she's from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast because that's where the countryside acres large family lives, except they live in the country and not in the city. And yes Nizhny Novgorod is a beautiful city just like Moscow is and St. Petersburg are too. I love the architecture of the Russian Orthodox Churches and the buildings in Moscow it's so Russian and to see those buildings with the modern day skyscraper buildings it fits right in as you bring in the old and the new together. Looking forward to seeing the Christmas lights on display in December and January. Moscow always puts up an incredible display of lights around the city in Moscow. I know other cities in Russia 🇷🇺 does it too like Nizhny Novgorod for example.

Yes. Planes land in Russia full of people, but none of them come back. They all disappear without a trace and this has been going on for many years.

I have lived in Russia.Uzbekistan and Ukraine.
In the cities I found that because people are used to seeing foreigners they didn’t take much notice although were happy to help if you needed advice about say a certain restaurant or directions.
In rural areas people would look but only out of curiosity,if you open a conversation they loved to practice their English and I found were really genuine people.
Which is something I’ve found in many countries although Russian people seem to get stereotyped I know for sure they are kind.warm and friendly.

And yet, Russians are not attacked anywhere. Russian musicians shoot music videos even in Afghanistan. Hamas released three hostages who turned out to be from Russia. What happens to a Frenchman or an Englishman if he decides to shoot a video in Afghanistan? (it's scary to imagine). Russians are respected everywhere and I feel it when I travel. The whole of Eastern Europe understands me without English, the whole of Central Asia, in many countries Russian is almost like a second native language (but not officially)

The young can communicate better they realise the English language makes the world go around and oldies much harder to pick up a foreign language wherever you are. From what I see just like the rest of the world a little shy to attempt English conversation but willing to give it a go. Short video but your on the money ,no worries you really proved a point..

I'm Canadian and I've watched a few dozen videos like this over the last few weeks trying to figure out where in Russia I would like to visit to see if I should try for the new visa and I have yet to see a single crackhead or sign of crackheads in any video of Russia. In Canada that park would be filled with tents, trash and drug addicts.

A few years ago, a friend of mine and his wife went to Mosocw and St Peterberg for 10 days.
They thoroughly enjoyed their time in Russia and my friend, like myself, can speak a bit of Russian. He said they have no issues with the English at all and his wife's exact words were the Russians are spot on people.
They want to go back again but the pandemic got in the way. They can't wait to go back and he even said he would love to move there.

0:02 No, I was there 20 years ago and I’d love to go back.
0:21 I’m not even sure they would know you were speaking English with that accent! 😅 I have a very understandable English accent and many people around the world struggle to understand me. My wife is a Malay and last time I was talking to my Scottish friend she said “I’m so glad you are here, I didn’t understand a word he said.” 😅
