In some builds with some ducts, the frame could benefit from some added stiffness. One way I've found to do that in a lightweight and durable way is by tying a thin nylon fishing line around the side ducts. This tutorial video shows you how to. Apologizes for the vertical format; I had planned to make it a short, but found out editing it down to 1min would have compromised the explaination If y...

Sorry I couldn't participate this week. Fortunately while on a casual walk with my casual friend next to the Kaohsiung 85 Tower, the 2nd tallest building in Taiwan I happened to walk right on a lost SD card that I could edit! Building is 85 floors and about 350m tall Boy oh boy that guy that is certainly not me must have shat his pants with the amount of snow he got if you recognize your footag...

Yesterday I built 2 superbee boards in parallel. That means I soldered motor 1 on board A, then motor 1 on board B, then 3A, 3B... to spread out the heat and make sure not to sink too much into one area of the board at once Therefore both boards received the same amount of heat I then powered up each board on my current limiting lab power supply - As I took the habit of; having blown many fets ...

Very nice setup! Can't wait to get the light version!
Out of stock :(
have you tested long range at all? how far have you gotten?
I think I have everything for my hdzero wingman except for the generic wires and I'm unsure which gauges to buy. Is that documented anywhere? I'm having trouble finding it.
Genius!
nice job, have you ever used a preheater?
thanks, I haven't found the need for it yet; not on these tiny boards with rather low thermal mass at least (wish I had one for reballing my PS3 though haha)
@@fractalengineering I used to reflow dead laptop motherboards, I would literally use an electric skillet, get it up to about 180C, then flux the chip in question, and heat with 210 for about 30 seconds. Worked pretty well, did dozens of boards this way never had any come back!
I got bad news today. The motors I was given are not 1303 8k. They are 1106 6k. Looks like they are going to go on something else. Got any battery/prop ideas for that size motor? I have to admit I am looking forward to using the Custom Purple Fractal/Tiny Whoop motors instead.
hi mate, pretty unfamiliar with that size; sounds like it could be more of a 2.5-3" 2-3S thing
I got your "Master Tip" the other day...Only use 2 screws!!!
Where it all began! I had a different E014 Windmill first. I got this E013 next but I think they gave me too weak of a battery. It would barely hover. I'm going to use the goggles, camera, and VTX on something else though. The whole set up was so cheap! I can't really complain.
I tried mine not long ago with modern lipos, huge difference, we really gone a long way in the lipo side
Is this the real maiden flight of the Wingman?
hehe yep; you can tell by the fact it didn't even have it's final name yet
That's awesome!!! I'm hopeful to get a decent flight with my Hawkeye split Camera now. It weghs more(18.5g) because of the DVR but I'm hoping it won't be too heavy. Are the models you currently sell the "Rev-02"?
Thanks! Just realized now you weren't referring to the hawkeye thumb cam; looking at the board size it appears meant for 30x30mm mounting? Might be a challenge fitting it in there; the Wingman is meant to whoop stack 25.5x25.5mm You might still be able to jerry rig it in there, although I wouldn't encourage it. Also double checked and the camera appear to be micro size, 19mm? Here again the frame is designed for nano size, 24mm wide cams :/ All boostybois that ship now are Rev-02 with the enable pin
@@fractalengineering I was referring to the camera frame. You mentioned it is in view and it would be changed in the video description.
@@GR8SCOTT ah! thought we were still about the boostyboi; then yes it's long been implemented; you can see on the product page picture I extended a 1.4mm slot towards the front to fit the hdz nano cam
@@fractalengineering thanks! Don't count me out yet. The Hawkeye 30x30 board is awkward(maybe mount it to the included tpu mount), and the camera comes with an adapter. Save a frame for me. I'm putting together the cash right now.
Will we see this "Spinnyboi" in the shop soon?
haha it's really just an off-the-shelf hand drill tool you can find p much anywhere, but I'll see to find a TDM one locally to join the collection 😄
Could probably cut the battery bay weight in half!!!
hehe are you in my walls we just started doing that the past couple days; snipping out the middle part between the clips shaves off about 4g and makes it a lot easier to remove the battery too 😃
@@fractalengineering I was thinking that would lower the tension on it. I want to buy it but the Hawkeye split cam I want to put in requires a minimum of 5V. Will it still work when the battery is down to 2.6V? Does it come with "boostboi"? Maybe a 2s version of that plate? 45 minute run time? I'd like to use my new rcinpowrr GTS 1303 8k if that works.
@@GR8SCOTT hehe well it doesn't appear to, and the separated half trays remain bolted solid. Pretty sure the boostyboi would very happily feed your hawkeye; it is rated up to 2.1A down to 1.8V. Doesn't come with the kit but you may get it alongside your order 2S brings it's own set of new compromises, but you could totally experiment with it by strapping a pack to the top plate without using the 18650 tray; use lipos even if you'd like Although keep in mind the frame is optimized for light weight and efficiency, and only works so well in that very thin sweet spot imo; but I'm always happy to hear of new approaches using my platforms :)
thank you for sharing this.
This is so cool!
2.1A is an impressive spec for that size. The remote function is even more impressive. Amazing work
Thank you very much; not too much to it really, just a spin on a feature already existing on the IC
Genius man. How many amps can it switch?
thanks mate, the IC is rated 2.1A
Hey mate what temp do you have your tip at?? Always impressed by your joints mate
Always put in holes on connection pads. Someone in always gonna complain...like me :b. But for real a through hole is always good for testing and hookup
I purposefully went for single-sided pads so that the board may be placed flat against the frame without risk of solder seeping through and shorting out on the conductive carbon fiber
@@fractalengineering Well you got vias on the pads...atleast I think those are vias
@@Alpine_flo92002 correct, tiny ones though, and covered with silk screen on the B side; haven't found seep through to be an issue
@@fractalengineering I never had vias specially covered because that costs extra at most places and Im a cheap bugger. Will you do efficiency measurements?
@@Alpine_flo92002 haha same here; fortunately there was no need for it as I just covered the opposite side with silk screen, I've just added a little white rectangle over the vias on the back side Absolutely planning to make a proper power/efficiency sweep, working on automating the measurement protocol by SCPI; will be a whole other video
what's this for?

Very Kool! Thanks!
I wish I would have done a mosquito count!
lool I will add one next time!
That is a big helper!!!
Merry Christmas!!!
merry Christmas Mr Fractal
Any chance you'd sell the pcb or schematics? I'm interested in doing this to my xlite
this is with 19000kv 0802? just saw on the website it says i can see an example of how it will perform using these motors
That is correct; this must have been my final prototype with electronics transplanted straight from a Moblite6!
@@fractalengineering thank you for the reply. Yes I just tried the 19000kv motors, and for motors that were very underpowered on a mobula 6, they're actually flyable on a fractal 65 (ductless)
Great topic, thanks 👍
what do you think about using a solder iron and melting them together - similar to what we do with the printed carbon fiber ducts to connect the struts and ducts?
Respect lol
I really appreciate the effort in making extruders smaller.
How far does it fly?
Oh man it's been a while lol but it was good enough for a small park?
I like that song. Btw, i got the wingman in the mail. Not sure why it doesn't shownas delivered. Love it. 🙏🏻
wonky nip!
Man, I'm not even going to fly mine. It's a work of art, so don't want to destroy it. Lol
naaw man it's an easy flier you'll just want to sit back and cruise around with it; you'll love flying it I'm sure :)
🤟👽🎹🎛🎚🎶🎵 ah here we again! legend is true! Hexk yea diggin it man
🤟👽🎹🎛🎚🎶🎵 ah here we go the legend is true!
Can you tell me what parts you used? Just got the frame and want to start betting the parts.
my brother in christ the build list is literally in the description 😄 Also added a link to the shop where you'll find more infos in the product page if you've purchased it from one of our dealers
@@fractalengineering oh. Thanks a bunch. 🤣
@@fractalengineeringI may just keep this frame for parts and just get the BNF wingman. Any idea when the regular wingman bnf will be back in stock? The analog. Thanks
@@damienkinchen very well; I'm expecting X12 resupply next week or the one after, but that just reminds me that I can actually add the X12 Lite + OVX300 option! Will do it later today; cheers
@@fractalengineering right on. Thanks a bunch.
I just got this frame kit. I'm hoping this build will be better than the brand new rekon3 I got that hit 100c while just hovering. I cannot seem to figure it out. It's in pit mode and hovering in an ac cooled room and get to 100c fast, less than a minute.
Ah yes I had such an issue with the JHEMCU EZF4 FC; I had core temp alerts just hovering around, needed constant airflow flying at speed. This issue disappeared on the HM 2G4 and X12, even having an onboard VTX so this must be a FC problem
yo this is sick, is it possible to also fly this with 4s 850mah?
And what size motors are you supposed to put on there?
3 inch and I have so many questions, I may pick one up later xD
lol I'm sure you /could/ that would defeat the whole purpose 😅 You may find all the specs and recommended build on the product page
Yves teaching people how to count in French 🇫🇷 So sorry for oscilloscope! 😭
lol counting and swearing are the 2 last things I seem to do in French anymore :P And thanks; it's my fav scope by far, love this thing so much I use it all the time. Fortunately it has a complete service manual available with test/calib/troubleshooting procedures but even moreso, schematics and BOM for the entire internals! Already found a shorted diode; will see how that goes after replacing it.
Good design and unique, for the next version of wingman please keep it under 100g include battery, Japan’s regulator requires all drone 100g or above to use Remote id, there is a big market for long range sub 100g drone! Keep up the good work!
thank you, the new version is 102.5g incl battery AND cam holder; makes it just below 100g without it (pics on the scale available on the BNF listing iirc)
02:06 So, it’s the F75 Pro Max Bangka? 😀 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bangka_(boat)
lool that's exactly what it is!
Hard to tell in the video but are u basically making a knot on each side of the duct strut ?
no; one knot on top after the first loops, then double knot after the tensioning loop, again on top
Do you find that you break ducts or bend props less with this knot?
I am yet to break a single duct, motor or even prop with that build, with or without the knot 😅
