Blanchard's Bees

🐝 Just a small town Iowa country boy trying to save and raise honeybees🐝. Throughout my life I would come across honeybees in some way, shape or form. A beehive here or there, a bee tree, a huge swarm in a tree while out enjoying nature. I never thought this would be my life now but I do enjoy it.

Gun season put a stop to the traffic on our cams. Hope you still have some deer to eat all your brassicas. Haha. J/k.
Geez, that's a huge bulb! Is it like a turnip? I'd be eating that myself, lol!
@gregzeigler3850 yeah I think so
Thanks William. Doesn't look like they are zeroing in on that stuff. Maybe now that the corn and soybeans are harvested they will eat it up??
@russellkoopman3004 I think the deer here still have yet to get used to the brassica. My 2nd year planting. I'm sure when the snow starts covering other crops they'll start hitting it harder.
@@BlanchardsBees I'm in the Missouri Ozark highlands (my land borders Mark Twain Natnl Forest on two sides) and the first year I planted mine, the deer came in and would take a big bite out of a turnip, then go on to the next one and do the exact same thing. I had wheelbarrow loads full of turnips with just one bite taken out of them. They didn't go to waste, though, as I fed those to my goats. The next year, however, the deer tore them up, barely leaving anything behind - be it the greens or the roots.
William I never heard of that stuff. Looks like turnips. Is it good eating? Happy New Year's from minnesota!
@MinnesotaBeekeeper I suppose you could if ya wanted but I just plant for the deer 🦌 I remember my grandmother would eat some purple turnup when I was real little. Happy New Year!🐝
Yep Frost'll do that. Looks like they are doing well for just getting frosted hard. Will they perk back up or was it to hard of a frost and finished them off?
@dcsblessedbees I think they are done for the year we finally got snow the other day.
Looks great! Thanks!
Your plot looks good. It was so dry I didn't bother planting the brassicas this year (won't make that mistake again). Didn't see anything this weekend, but our cams are still showing traffic so when we get back from NAHBE, hopefully will be able to get at least one more for the freezer before season ends. Wishing you success for the rest of the season as well.
@@Highland_Honey thanks friend I wish you the best of luck!
Nice to see you William. I'm kicking myself for not doing late season frame equalization. Next weekend will be warm in the mid 30s. Don't forget to hit them one last time with OA. No feeder shims? Hang in there brother and thanks for the update.
@MinnesotaBeekeeper Thanks friend. I might add shims later if they need them. OAV one last time this year is definitely on the list of to do's. Lot's to do yet
Life gets in the way of everything it seems. Get them covered up! Thanks!
@rodneymiddleton9624 it sure does. Was considering making a sugar board for them as well. Thanks for watching friend

Ooooohhhh I thought you just pour it all over the box😅. Man I wasted so my much 🥲
I use them on the bad ones and "Beetle Jails" to keep them in check. Thanks William!
@rodneymiddleton9624 was trying to let the bees handle it but they seemed to be getting bad this year.
Your bees did good this year. Did you have a lot of swarming this year? Sure nice to see another video William. 12 hours to download is crazy. Ten to fifteen minutes would be enough for me. LOL Mean hive takes the fun of beekeeping. I did the same this year and I'm glad I did.
@russellkoopman3004 I did have a few swarm but was able to catch most of them. Yeah USCell went to 5G and my service got worse lol like what the heck. Thanks for stopping in friend.
60 gallons and still have more to do, WOW! Thats awesome brother! Be safe :)
@j-beatsimaginationstudio1987 now just need to find buyers
@@BlanchardsBees That will prob easier than you think lol. People love their honey.
Beautiful honey!!!! ^0 gallons is a good bit!!!!! Thanks William!
@@rodneymiddleton9624 was definitely a good year. Thanks friend
William, that honey the bees were eating looked great! Please read my comment on your last video.
It was so sweet! I seen that you tagged me but I don't see anything other than my channel name on that video. Can you comment again?

@BlanchardsBees Hey William, here’s a YT link showing how to build an inexpensive bee vac with 2 5 gallon buckets and a vac that fits on a 5 gallon bucket. This one shows a corded vac but HomeDepot sells a battery powered one also. th-cam.com/video/eO7H-vPYuSg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=1SUJXjmb8ScucjdT
I do a lot of them and I have a 2000 GMC Yukon XL loaded with ladders, FLIR camera, Endoscope, Saws, Beevac, Totes and coolers. Most everything I need because of the amount of them I do. I'm around 30 for this year with a couple pending. Nice job partner. It's harder than people think.
A FLIR camera and a beevac are definitely on my wish list. Would have made things a little easier lol. Thanks for stopping by friend
@@BlanchardsBees There's a few other thermal cameras that are reasonably priced.
@@BlanchardsBees
nice looking crop
@harrisjoubertwithsleepycre1924 thanks I thought it wasn't to bad
Fall Brassica can be a good source of pollen for the bees depending on how long it takes to bloom.
@@dcsblessedbees I did not know that. Thanks!🐝🐝
That is crazy!
Ouch! I hear 220 volt 3 phase will remove tattoos :)
@@MinnesotaBeekeeper 😆
Good for you William! We tried that here but our soil was so sandy we can't get them to grow to size before the deer nibbled them down.
@MinnesotaBeekeeper I've been trying the cover crop approach. Working on bettering my soil quality
William, there use to be a program where the government would pay you to plant like corn for the wildlife but you can’t harvest it. You may know about the program but I can’t remember the name of it.
@@donbearden1953 is it like the crp program?
You seem to be getting a monopoly on bees in your area lol Be safe Brother :)
@j-beatsimaginationstudio1987 you saying you want some? They make great guards
What a trip!
Wow, super cool intro!
Bigfoot spook em
I've been called that before 😂
do bees ever get trapped by this?
@@rohumco1403 I haven't had any issues
Swarm commander or similar and old brood comb might give you a small advantage but they're more like lucky charms when you condsider that bees freely move into old cars, walls and chimneys without any such enticements. Yet.... even I use lemon grass oil and line my boxes with propolis just in case it helps... we don't want to miss out on freebees 🙂
thank you for giving this information i am going to use it
Very interesting
Holy smokes you had a heck of a lot going on!

I have always used lemon grass oil but have heard great things about swarm commander, Im going to order a bottle and give it a try next year.
Great idea about putting the cotton bud/q tip in the ziplock and leaving it n the hive! Thank you!
Thanks for watching
Just baited and set out a few traps. It smells phenominal. Tbh really just smells like lemon grass oil. Hopefully they actually have some additional stuff in there because we already have lemongrass oil.. for free😂 not 35 bucks
The stuff works excellent for me. They have some other products as well like a gel I used on a scion in one of my more recent short videos. Caught a swarm the very next day. Definitely better then buying 🐝 bees
@BlanchardsBees I believe you! And everyone else who swears by it!
Love those peepers!
They're loud!
Yeah they are! It was hilarious when I played the frogs video back for it. It's reaction was priceless. Wish I had caught it on camera.
How was the storm for you?
It almost hit my dad's house and my nephews in Greenfield. Nephews wife parents house was destroyed but we're all ok.
Looks like 2 separate swarms!
There was 3 there but they started to consolidate to the one before I could get video
@@BlanchardsBees I had one like that last week.
That’s awesome!!!!
Thanks🐝🐝🐝

Works surprisingly well thanks for watching
Nice that Scion worked great, I think I'll make me a bunch of those and hang them like wind chimes.😂 That is way cool, thanks for sharing.👍Grats on the bee btw.
The day before I actually put a little swarm commander jel on it not really expecting anything. Was just showing my mom what it smelled like and didn't want to waste the little bit I squirted out so I wiped it on the scoin. Then next day boom there they are🐝🐝🐝
