There is no such thing as a "right to cards" in a CCG where cards are sold in randomized packs and you are forced into a secondary market to acquire cards needed for a deck. WoTC has never in all their history intended for all players to own all cards. They have ALWAYS intended Magic to be a chase where players DON'T own all the cards and they spend huge amounts of time and money chasing those cards via purchase or trades. All of the people who come at Magic with a perspective of "We all have a right to cheap cards" are literally.. demonstrably... wrong. You have a right to all game pieces in a Monopoly set. You have a right to all cards in a box set of Dominion. You have a right to all 52 cards in a normal deck of cards. They are intended to be sold as a set. CCG's have never been this. Full stop. If you are not looking at CCG's via the lens of "You are not supposed to own it all... you are supposed to spend your time and money chasing them" then you are not looking at a CCG correctly. The ENTIRE REASON they are printed at different rarities and put into randomized packs is SPECIFICALLY SO the customers must chase them.

Good job with the Dual Lands purchase. Long term it's probably going to be the best purchase you ever made in MTG.

The play box is just an overpriced draft box

Knew all along, knew it would be so good that I bought a booster box for the first time, only ever bought single packs before. And got over 2/3 of the cards from the standard list just from the box!

I was pretty sad to check Ebay sells recently and saw that the original collector booster from ToE is selling for only $200 right now. Just shows not all products are worth holding for long term.

Never played Magic till 3 weeks ago. Started with the Bloomburrow started deck and the 9 booster box. I'm hooked and loving the game. Bloomburrow seems very inviting to me and probably many new players.

Dude... the collectability you mention around 2:40 is NOT completely a good thing. Just because there are unique versions of new cards does not make them a good collectible. Why? Because WoTC is CRUSHING us with so many unique versions it ruins the special/rare aspect of them. It's one of those "when everything is special... nothing is special" kind of situations. Next, the RL will never be reprinted. I made videos years ago saying WoTC could reprint CE without breaking the Reserved List. It has been known for a long time by people who actually studied it that CE could be reprinted. The entire magic community has misunderstood the meaning of Magic 30th, it did not break the Reserved List. People are making a mistake when they think Magic 30th was a reprinting of the Reserved List. Although I own nearly everything on the RL (most of it many times over) I was actually excited about Magic 30th at first. More reprints of non-legal cards (which could be used as as close-as-you-can-get proxies) would bring way more people into those old formats. More people playing, with proxies or not is a good thing IMO... but WoTC completely screwed that up by charging so much for Magic 30th. The print insulted collectors/investors, and it did not put cheap cards into the hands of players. It pleased nearly nobody and pissed off nearly everybody. It was a HUGE missed opportunity to introduce the millions of new players to Vintage, Legacy and Old School formats. To be completely clear, the ONLY place I feel safe putting my hard earned money into MTG is buying original print 1993-1997 cards, with a special focus on RL cards. Nothing new is a good deal for the prices they charge these days.

Playbooster was successful this time around because people are wising up that collector boxes just really aren’t worth it. Problem is, the value isn’t in the playbooster box either. It’s just singles for me now and usually I would buy a case to stack and a case to open as usually a case will get you almost an entire set.

I just can’t believe rottenmouth viper, maha, dragonhawk, Ygra are all so cheap. The singles are just sooooo cheap. I kinda don’t like it. Makes the cards less fun to pull.

i can tell what they did for the future..... ppl didnt knew they messed arround with the pull rates in the "play" boosters box. So ppl thought last edition was awesome so this will be aswell... but no. I for myself will NOT buy a box anymore.. collector is too eypensive and playbooster is for its worth too eexpensive aswell. So i will buy singles in the future so wizard wont see a dime from me anymore. I like magic but HATE wizard now

Im ready to revisit bloomburrow and its still in rotation.

I did a severe NOPE on Commander Furies...I mean Bloomburrow. No interest whatsoever. Probably because I m bored to death of watching cute animals with my 3 year old. So nope nope nope and I m happy people are having fun with it but for me even Foreclosed Manor was more interesting.

My son and I played Pokemon competitively for years. We transitioned to Digimon and Magic. We played a little Magic here and there, but never really dedicated time to it. Bloomburrow got our attention though and we have been playing all the time. We are both on Arena and buying products with the intention to build decks. We are even going to sign up for our first ever draft night at our LGS. I can say that I have no interest in the next set. We will continue to use our Bloomburrow decks and I feel like I'm finally getting into the game a bit more. The horror theme isn't for us, so we will wait for a better set to invest in. I would love to see additional Bloomburrow products get released though and we're excited to see what decks become popular and what will be the best cards to use.

It's a bad value proposition. Bring back Draft boosters. I don't care how they fudge the numbers to make it look like this is a great product at a reasonable price.

We all knew this set was going to sell well. Everyone in the comments (all different mtg channels) were super bullish on this set except the people who claimed to no longer buy packs/singles and joined team Proxy. I'm still waiting on picking anything up from this set because a lot of this is going to be opened which is going to make it's way to the online markets. Your theory on back to back sets having sales correlation seems worth exploring. I think this works better if the follow up set is something that would have mass appeal (dinosaurs in LCI, Phyrexian mechanical brutality, Big Ikoria monsters (w/ tri lands), MH3 powercreep for all.

Thank you for normalizing sealed collecting! There is a lot of stigma in the community around the topic. Ever since I was a kid when I first started in the hobby, I never liked opening packs. It's never been for me. I collect sealed boxes for both Mtg and Pokemon. It's what brings me joy and makes me happy to look them.

I’m happy collecting sealed of more modern sets. Wish I had done so since Urza’s when I started. Trick with ‘investing’ is the ability to sell at a price higher than you paid. Not always easy even if the box is worth more

I've heard people mention before how they wish they could get a box of Revised or Legends and how it would have been so cool if they had played back then. It was cool to play then and I was fortunate to but the thing is, people can still get that satisfying feeling by picking up a box of what is out when they start. Because someone is going to be telling them the same thing they were saying to me except they will say, man I wish I could have bought War of the Spark, it had a planeswalker in every pack and then they almost quit making them!

I used to have a hard time selling my sealed boxes. I found that if I first collect a full set and slide everything into a binder, I have a much easier time parting with my precious booster boxes. Set collecting is underrated.

Well said! I collect, because I like to collect (not just TCGs and sealed product). The enjoyment of acquisition and owning and being able to look at and handle are the reasons to collect. Some collections go to zero and some collections go up in value and some collections remain the same. Those are just side effects. Value is not the end all goal! In truth, I will at times offset the cost of my collecting hobby by selling off or trading some part of a collection, however, I'll likely die with most of my collections still in my possession. They will have fully served their purpose at that point.

Well said. Am new into the game and I would like to start collecting draft box's for the future when one day I have a play group to play with, or have kids to share it with. I have a running "collection" on the TCG player app, but I more than likely will never sell anything unless it is a crazy duplicate that I have and don't need a bunch of. I have a lot to learn about MTG, but the collection resale side of it is pretty wild, where those whales just sit on a bunch of stuff with the thought of selling it down the road, and not play with their things (if they're sleeved and protected.. and if really rare double sleeve)

I appreciate the data driven but also sentimental viewpoint on this channel. Maybe this deserves a whole video but: What's your opinion on the last of the "bronze era" booster boxes before Hasbro made big changes like Fire design, and collector boxes? I'm thinking of boxes like Dominaria, Allegiance, Guilds, War, M20. These have the beginnings of the commander hype but not the full tilt we've seen in recent years

I pull 3 packs out of every collector box I open and place them into a “time capsule”. When I die all of these packs will be placed in a coffin with me.
