Magic The Gathering is mostly the gameplay experience. We don't have a Pikachu or a Mickey Mouse to sell the IP, but the gathering of ACTUAL PLAYERS has always been HEART of this game and always will be.

I agree - mtg is easily the most played tcg imo - it’s not even close and there’s a reason why

60-card, kitchen table rules, is the most fun ever. Not to beat down on official formats, I feel they're great in a competitive sense, but kitchen table rules, 60-cards, 4 copy max.. that's how MTG was made to be played. It's a ton of fun. It's crazy wild not being bound to searching winning deck builds online for a given format. Not having optimal decks, just stuff what you can in there and eat your opponent with that Craw Wurm!

The fact that you can play Tolarian Academy in a deck with Darksteel Colossus is why I love kitchen table Magic.
The best days were when we gathered with my high school friends and duked it out with our crappy 60-card decks made of whatever cards we pulled out of boosters during that summer.

Once they started doing secret layer releases from other series and shows is when I considered it to become mainstream

10:20 As a new player, I only cared about Commander. I personally hated how many people kept telling me commander was the wrong way to play and that I needed to play 60 card instead. Don't know how to tell them I'd never touch magic otherwise if it weren't for the limitless abilities of Commander. What new players find much more complex is being told they can only choose certain cards and that the deck we make will inevitably be rotated out to restart. That's infuriating and keeping track of the countless banned cards in different formats is annoying. Personally, EDH was and continues to be the only way I care to play. Same seems to go for anybody I've seen recently getting into the game.

    Newer player here. Yes.
I used to place MTG in the bottom level of nerdom below D&D. Now, new people are brought in daily by Universes Beyond and celbrities like Charlie and Post Malone. The more and more it enters the general mainstream, the more people hear about it, the less out of the norm it seems, and the more people that wanna give it a shot. It's pretty killer to see so many joining in lately after not hearing ANYONE talk about it before becoming a fan.

Fun fact: you can tap/click on share, then copy link and TH-cam views that as a "share". It takes two seconds and boosts analytics. Actually sharing is always best but artificial sharing is good enough for government work any day of the week.

I got into magic because of wubby, I convinced one friend of mine to get a duel deck with me. Two days later we got a game night box, since then i convinced my brother to start playing and we made ourselves a pod with some local people and now 6 months later we play commander twice a week , and when 2 people are out they play modern until the commander game ends. We’ve all gotten into vintage and buy up anything we can find in white border or that looks old. I’m coming in as an outsider not growing up playing it but I think overall this must be good for the game. Maybe we are all noobs and ruin the game for real ones but we love it and buy into everything that’s come out since we started. For me it was LOTR ❤

My sons and I have played Magic off and on since 1994. You brought up some pros and cons but you did not mention how expensive it is to buy the new sealed boxes from this year's sets. The majority of us are casual players and the prices are getting ridiculous for just a card game. Wizards will continue to raise prices on a regular basis and give us poor quality cards. With so many reprints, they have ruined the collectability of some cards. We will wait to buy some singles. Maybe we may see another Amazon Dump where I picked up Dominaria Remastered boxes for $89.99. Magic is a great game and I can use the cards I have to make decks. Thank you for the video.

It does look like things are slowly picking up after the Magic 30th debacle in 2022. I think huge TH-camrs showcasing the game will be a net positive, though I suspect less than 1% of their viewers will be interested enough to give it a try!

Not going mainstream as these streamers aren’t really bringing actual players into the ecosystem. People love a spectacle especially if it’s gambling.

Maybe not bringing new players, but I played standard as a kid on the bus and seeing folks have such enthusiasm for it really pulled me back into it - especially with Commander

I could easily see it being new players in as well as making old players return. Both of those will drive sales up and bring MTG closer to mainstream.

I think its actually about the stonks. Although people like to play it, ive seen more and more "pull" videos. Mainly from rich creators who can afford to drop 20k on old sets to open and get potentially good pulls.
5 bucks says it turns into more about pack pulls and having tons of product rather than the game.

I haven't played at my LGS in 2 months because the guy who did in store play quit due to I'm assuming low attendance. The more people to come into the game imo I feel like it's up to us as players to not be douchebags and welcome these new people to our world!!

Magic player since 2000. The game isn't really going mainstream. They just know that they won't be able to keep supporting it for very long, so they are trying to make as much bank as they can before they discontinue it. I give it another decade, give or take, before it is done.

    • @456jm
      @456jm 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The Reserve List has also been holding the game hostage since it's inception 30 years ago yet it's the last thing that collectors still cling toward that still makes money for Magic where every card outside of it has almost been reprinted into the ground. This is where we get to the whole argument between Game Pieces vs. Collectors Pieces.
The more power creep they add to the game the harder it is for LGSs to buy and sell Magic product without flipping it just to sell card singles solely because Wizards of the Coast / Hasbro thought it was a good idea to get rid of MSRP and partner with Amazon when most of their competition chose not to and for good reason.
