    It's funny because according to Isayama, Erwin is also a virgin. He was very popular amongst ladies, but he chose to stay single so if he died in a battle, he wouldn't have to leave a broken family behind. Still a gigachad though.

    Eren is the most fascinating character i've ever came across in fiction. He's not necessarily good or evil but incredibly complex and severely misunderstood. his character arc is god tier.

    • @ljeans531

      The anime fixed what Eren was getting at in the end.
      Because Eren was destined to inherit god-like power, the outcome they received was the only possible one.
      If it had been someone like Armin or Erwin, things could have been different. Better or worse.

    why are you obsessed with using the word "masculine" instead of strong? I mean Hange had to also sacrifice herself as a commander and we would just call her strong not "feminine woman", same with Erwin in my opinion

      That's a valid point, feminine people/women are capable of showing a great deal of strength such as Hange did at the end of AOT. Mothers are some of the strongest people throughout human history, and I'm very grateful for mine. I'm still trying to figure out what masculinity fully means as a young man personally, but I do know that it involves providing for and protecting those around you who are weaker/need help against other corrupt men and forces. Biologically, men are physically stronger than women, but there's more than that which differentiates the sexes. Men tend to have a deep desire for purpose and legacy. Women have these desires too, but men will tend to go to more extreme lengths to achieve these goals, even if it means harming others if they can obtain their goal. Throughout history, men have been the instruments of war, genocides, and various disasters that have only made countless beings such as children, women, and other men alike suffer. These actions display the more negative aspects of masculinity, which still plagues societies all around the globe through the corruption of male politicians and leaders that only want to gain power and riches for themselves. Purpose is a great thing that can lead to prosperity for yourself and those around you, but it can also be a very obsessive idea for many men around the world who end up becoming failed business men or deadbeat fathers when the legacy they're going to be leaving behind isn't what they desired. The video could've stated certain things better, and both Erwin and Eren are VERY flawed characters in AOT. The thing that makes Erwin masculine and purposeful is that he drove past his desire of trying to see if his fathers ideas were true and lead the Survey Corps to their deaths. He knew his purpose as commander here would involve words of encouragement to his soldiers on why the suicide charge was necessary in giving Levi a chance to win them the battle. Nothing that he desired nor wanted involving his fathers dream mattered as the battle needed to be won, and so Erwin with his scouts made the sad but important sacrifice. Now Hange has a similar sacrifice, and hers was even more selfless in the sense that she sacrificed herself alone so that the others could get on the plane to escape the rumbling. Erwin sacrificed his whole squad of soldiers, but it was needed as Zeke wouldn't have taken the suicide charge as seriously if he had only one target. While contexts are quite a bit different on the two commanders sacrifices, Erwin went past his fear and guilt over getting his squad killed and not achieving his fathers dream in order to give Levi a chance to kill the Beast Titan. That desire to achieve your purpose even at the detriment of those serving with you is utilized by men more than women in general, and while that trait can be very negative, Erwin used that very self destructive energy to give up his own squad for something greater than all of them. That is masculinity to me, using your craving of power and legacy as a man for a cause that will protect and impact many after you, even if it means that you must sacrifice yourself and the assets/beings aside you. PS: Erwin also didn't want to get saved by Levi via the injection after Floch saved him as he carried out his purpose and accepted that his own dreams died alongside the scouts that he led. He may have also wanted Armin to survive instead and lead the corps due to the latter's intelligence and more empathetic nature that humanity could benefit from.

    tbh i see little to no difference between eren and erwin, just the fact that eren lacks leadership, doesnt make him a bad character. erwin was motivated through his vindictive desire and so was eren, erwin wanted to know the secrets and eren wanted freedom. eren told armin that he would like nothing better than spending his life with mikasa and yet he sacrificed himself to protect his loved ones. the main difference is that eren depicts intrinsic masculinity and erwin depicts extrinsic masculinity. btw i like erwin more than eren 👋👋

      He literally admits in the final episode that he didn't do it for his friends.
      I'll write the dialogue below as a reminder.
      Armin: "And you're saying you did all this for us?"
      (flashback Grisha: "Eren, that's your name")
      Eren: "No, I didn't."

      I think the point of him saying that was that he became so fixated on him doing it for others, that he became selfish in doing that goal such that he wasnt really doing it for them. His trauma with his mums death pushed him forwards, yet he killed her for the same reason@loganshalloe5927

    • @SnakeWasRight
      @SnakeWasRight 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Well he did have his own personal motivations. He hated that there were humans in the outside world AT ALL, whether oppressive or not. He always expected that the people inside the walls were the last of humanity, and the world outside was totally open for infinite possibilities.

      i see your point but id like to differ, both erwin and eren never reached the truth, they both accepted the reality and changed their goals to death of oneselves. they both died for the people they cared about. erwin and eren both were literally the same chracters just had a different perspective. the fact that you keep blind to the whole story and play favorites, makes you nothing more than a little school girl. be better than this.

    I'm never going to buy that there wasn't another way. I believe Eren got stuck with this very specific idea of what freedom was and became a slave to it. Just like some dudes become obsessed with harmful ideas of what masculinity is.
