Met Uli in Santa Cruz, Ca. recently. The show was amazing and Uli Jon Roth was cooler than cool. As the years go by💀
Great review! You clearly respect and understand Uli’s beautiful and forceful playing. Speedy’s Coming is a lead solo straight through on a powerful drum, bass, rhythm and vocal platform.
Met uli lots of times and what a beautiful human being he is
Nice work mate. Great channel too. 👍
@@ScarsandGuitarspodcast thanks brother. Your channel kicks ass too.
Glad to be born and raised in Hillsborough CO.(Tampa FL) during 80s and nineties in the death metal scene and lived just a few miles away from MorrisSound recording.YBOR city will never be what it was then again
@@bobbyo5807 I think only the Swedish scene of that era comes close to rivaling that man. What an awesome place to grow up. I’m originally from Sydney, Australia so back in the day it was ok for tours but we certainly didn’t have that kind of access like you did mate.
@@themetalspotlight That and the Buffalo New York scene at the time which was quite heavy as well.Grew up on Death,Morbid, Deicide and Obituary just to name a few Tampa bred bands
I wish you had covered their greatest musical era imo.. 98-04
I like those albums but they pale in comparison to the early years and the raw unhinged power they had then.
excellent video mate! thank you very much for filling in the After Death / Nocturnus AD blanks for me
@@JamesParatiiArts Hey thanks for checking out the video man. Yeah it was fun filling in some of the blanks for myself too.
Great episode, this was a joy to watch!! Great, great band!!
Thanks for watching it mate. Definitely one of my favorite bands and they really were a great mix of talent and raw energy.
No Mike, no Nocturnus... But i Must agree the post on FB from their E.P. was great... They should changed name... Great vid btw...🤘
Thanks brother. Yeah it was a dog move to steal the name from Mike. Still some of that music is pretty great. But yeah I totally agree the best Nocturnus is when Mike is the driving force.
@@themetalspotlight Fortunately we now have Nocturnus AD and a continuation of The Key... Both albums are great... 🤘
@@DeBruut Yeah man I couldn’t agree more. Both a great return to form.
Give me that shirt!
I think it’s my current oldest shirt in my collection.
Excellent work, man!!! Really enjoyed this dive into the history from your perspective! I've been with the band now for about 7 years, and the energy/chemistry between us has only gotten stronger with the passage of time. I'm still so very honoured to be a part of this legacy, and am looking forward to spreading the sonic assault again live.
Thanks brother. You guys really have managed to capture the classic Nocturnus feel while also bringing your own characters into the music as well. I really hope I get a chance to catch you live one of these days.
@@joshuaholdren8094 by the way sorry for mangling your names. I must have been dropped on my head as a baby or something 😂
Lol All good😁 I usually charge in full speed with tricky names myself🤣 Keep up the killer perspectives😎
@@joshuaholdren8094 Hey man, no worries if you don’t want to, but if there’s any chance to share the video on the band page that would really help me out.
Bands like Scorpions, Queen, Rush, and Judas Priest were cutting edge in the 70s and then fell prey to wanting mainstream success around 1980. I am still a fan of these bands though!
I’m glad I’m old enough to remember all of this in the 70s. Listening to groups like the Scorpions before they were mainstream was the best. The mid 70s is when many of the legends were getting their starts before getting all the airplay. Life was good
❤️🦂❤️ Scorpions all songs is the best.
Nice job! Trey is the most underrated guitarist AND songwriter in my opinion. I get that the oldschool kind guys like the Vincent era more, because that's the "original", but the songwriting went to next level when Tucker joined. Gateways is the golden standard album for me in every aspect! 🤘
@@numquamband Thanks mate. Yeah I’m definitely one of those old school guys but I’m not a hater of the Tucker era. Some of that stuff is killer.
I’ve always preferred Matthias era of Scorpions.
I discovered this band through Headbangers Ball
Fly to the Rainbow is their best album, period. Jurgen Rosenthal in drums? He was never equaled.
In not even a huge Morbid Angel fan, but Where the Slime Live is one of the sickest, heaviest songs I've ever heard. You hear the influence of that song not just in death metal, but hardcore too these days
I get it, but as a big fan of their earlier albums I was less excited about that direction they went in on that song and the album. But I still thought it was good enough to include in the episode.
Where the Slime Live, in retrospect is a killer track, one of the best off Domination for sure. And no it is not weaker or "pussified", it was just different for them. Alters though, is not only their best album, it is one of the greatest deathmetal albums ever written.
Yeah that’s why I said it’s divisive because I’ve seen equal amounts of love and hate for that song and for Domination as a whole. Personally I’m somewhat ambivalent to it. I don’t hate it but I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a favorite.
Uli came out in an interview recently and said he wouldn't be against writing a few new songs with Klaus and Rudy. He explained he put down his guitar (a sabbatical) for a full two year stretch during the covid years and only played a little piano. He explained that this was a very positive and welcome break for him. Hope you have checked out his US TOUR. He sounds better than ever, his singing is better than ever, and he plays a mix of his solo work and Scorps classics. His solo stuff is fantastic in my opinion. Thanks for posting this vid... and if the stars align, we may just get a few more morsels of Dawn Road SCORPIONS. I sure hope Klaus sings backup because his backup work from that era was so perfect.
PS: He wrote an amazing huge book during his sabbatical that should be coming out any time. It wasn't ready before his tour, but when it comes out, everyone should buy it. Sounds like he dumped his heart into the project.
Butt-Head to Bevis watching a Morbid Angel video: "Whoa, was that a bear?"
Yeah I remember seeing it back then. Definitely gave me a chuckle.
Funny how much the perception of a band can differ depending on the moment of discovering them. 'Domination' was the first Morbid Angel album I heard (I was just a bit too young for the earlier ones) and it was an absolute hurricane, an album that turned my world upside down. Everything about it is wonderful, from the sound, through the riffs, to Vincent's brilliant, amazing vocals :)
Absolutely true. Perception is totally subjective and based on the point of entry. Even though it’s lower down my list I agree that it’s a great album. Its highlights are sky high top tier Morbid Angel.
Morbid Angel is the band that get me in Death Metal. I discovered them with the song "Abominations" on the french Death Metal compilation Masters of Brutality when I was 15. One remarkable thing about Morbid Angel is that the band was led by a charismatic frontman and a genius lead guitarist ; a pattern that had greatly contributed to the success of iconic Rock and Hard Rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Van Halen...
Yeah that’s a good point. Although as I say in the video I loved their pre-David Vincent stuff too.
Abominations of Desolation was also my favorite
So much raw badassery on that album. It gets way to overlooked by many fans.
I don't care what people think but Voodoo, generates a huge amount of joy and pleasure in my brain.
I remembered the other band besides Morbid Angel and Hexenhaus that used the Blessed are the Sick artwork. It was the first demo from Swedish legends Gorement in 1991.

1979 was in Hawaii wearing scorpions shirt, people on the streets never heard of them 😮
That was a great video. It's a shame that since the mid 80's Uli Jon Roth started making classical music instead of rock. The general public kind of forgot about him and he became underrated. If he kept making making rock music people would speak of him as fondly as Michael Schenker, Richie Blackmore and Yngwie Malmsteen.
Uli jon Roth war der beste Solo-Guitarist den Scorpions je hatten
Damn this was so good, loved it! Although i like the majority of all their albums there is a magic that is woven throughout the albums of the Uli Jon Roth albums. In Trance will always be my favorite album of theirs and Fly To The Rainbow a close second. Magical stuff! Thanks again for doing this fantastic coverage of the classic Uli era Scorpions albums!
Helstar rules OG US power metal legends first 4 flawless
70s scorpions is so the real shit.... They should play more songs from that era
Thank you for a good episode.can you please please tell me what song do you use in your opening scene?
Nice analysis of the Uli era albums, song by song. I've always been a Michael Schenker fan, but my brother in law prefers Uli. He encouraged me to go with him to see Uli a couple of days ago. I was blown away, and I am now a convert! Uli Jon Roth rocks!

Awesome video, did a great job of shining a light on a band at their creative peak and the evolution of a visionary musician who really deserves more credit. Huge Scorps fan but there’s just no comparison to this era. Saw him play a couple weeks back and was lucky enough to meet him. He was an extremely gracious and humble man. He’s an ambassador sent from the cosmos to urge mankind towards our higher impulses. The greatest🙌
It's always heartwarming to see this incredible band get the credit it deserves. Kenn Nardi is just a great and very unique songwriter and arranger.
My aunt sent me the original album from Germany
Everyone is going to have their favourites, it all depends on the time in life you first heard them. I would've put the debut album higher as i bought that when it first came out and that's what got me hooked (Temple of the King and 16th Century Greensleeves are still two of my favourite Rainbow songs of all time). I would had Long Live a little lower as there is a couple of songs on there that I'm not overkeen on. My top two would've been Rising and Difficult to Cure. It's a coin flip between these two but im gonna (controversially) give it to Difficult to Cure, love that album. But its hard ranking these albums as they are all so good. Thanks, I enjoyed the video 👍
One of the main reason Fly to the rainbow album is so outstanding is the works of Jurgen Rosenthal on drums. He plays with such unique style, and really makes the drums interesting to listen to.
