Hey benjamin! Love your videos and lists. Carcass are one of my favourties bands in any genre and had a massive impact on the way I saw metal and music in general. Bill steer has to be one of the greatest guitarists in metal but gets very minimal recognition for it. He is also so immaculately versatile with his solos just getting better with each album. Carcass also has to be one of the most distinct and identifiable bands which is a very rare distinction. I also love bands were you kinds grow with them and I feel that with Carcass. Its as if they take their listeners with them in terms of where they will head cause necroticism is like a proper death metal album sandwiched between symphonies and heartworrk. The first 2 albums are the only ones i don't care about but the rest is exemplary and even flawless hence super hard to rank them. I am a massive fan of swansong as well because it was fascinating to listen to their brand of hard rock/heavy metal. Surgical steel has to be one of the greatest comebacks in metal history as well. My ranking (as of today): Heartwork Surgical steel Necroticism Swansong Torn arteries (still a brilliant record) Symphonies of sickness Reek of putrefaction
Thanks Chirag, yeah man I love your passion for Carcass. I can totally understand why you’d rank them that way. Obviously as you saw in the video mine is quite different but either way Carcass are definitely one of my favorite bands too and I totally agree that Bill doesn’t get anywhere near enough credit. The guy basically invented two genres. I think it’s because he’s such an unassuming guy. Very mellow and doesn’t seem to seek out the limelight.
As a new fan to Carcass, I understood that Heartwork was a huge influence to pretty much any band playing deathmetal these days but it didn't grab me as much as I thought it would. It's still really cool and there are a couple moments that def did it but I was expecting to become addicted to it after all the hype. That album for me was Surgical Steel. Good god I could not stop with that one. I have to call that my current fav. I even revisit Swan Song more than Heartwork. Would Heartwork be on the bottom for me? Maybe not but it'd be lower than where you put it. I have to revisit the last few tracks. Maybe I'll overplay everything else and then Heartwork will finally rise in my ranking.
I think the hype for Heartwork is tied up in the fact that it was the first album to start that melodeath sound that is so common now. So at the time we were all pretty blown away by it’s originality. But I can totally understand liking surgical steel more. Heartwork has more sentimental connection for me though because it was my first Carcass album back when it came out. It definitely smokes Swan Song for me though. But as you saw from my list I’m a first 3 albums guy really. I like it dirty.
Great video! I remember buying Reek of Putrefaction on Cassette around 1990... It was nearly un-listenable, but that just made it more appealing. "Necroticism" was like the second coming of Christ when it hit. Helen Raiser on JJJ's "3 Hours of power" played this to death and it ranks as one of the greatest metal albums of all time! There's only 3 metal albums that I will listen to till I die. Necrotisism, plus Pungent Stenches "For God Your Soul, for Me Your Flesh" and "Been Caught Buttering"
Cool channel! Love Carass!

Fuck yeah mate, those Pungent Stench albums rule too.
Totally agree with you on the top 2 almost inseparable, but symphonies is just that little bit more classic for me
Yeah as the years go by Symphonies feels like it’s solidifying that top spot for me too. Such a unique and awesome album.
