Easy Balancing the Sky-Watcher Az GTI
มุมมอง 12K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Skywatcher Az-GTI is a great little and affordable computerized mount for astrophotography. But rotation, particularly in the azimuth movement (the RA if you use it in equatorial mode) is often stiff. So stiff that balancing the payload is not possible. The hard way to fix this is open the mount, tune it, grease it, etc. But for the faint of heart, here is a simple strategy to balance the p...

Testing Lenses With An Artificial Star Field
มุมมอง 1.4K2 ปีที่แล้ว
After replacing the collimations screws of my SCT with thumbs screws, I had to collimate it using a homemade artificial star, which makes me wonder: what else could I use an artificial star field for? Testing the optical performances for some legacy lenses, perhaps?

Deep Sky Astrophotography Setup For Sky-Watcher Az GTI
มุมมอง 29K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Here is my ultimate deep sky astrophotography setup I build around the Az-GTI. The Skywatcher Az-GTI is a great little alt/az mount that can be made work in equatorial mode, for a budget fully computerized. For this to work you need: - A latitude base, such as the William Optics Latitude Base or the one for the Star Adventurer PRO; - a counterweight of 1 or 2 kg; - a counterweight shaft you can...

Easy Focusing With Astro Cameras
มุมมอง 3.1K3 ปีที่แล้ว
I don't know you, but I struggle with the lack of real-time feedback when focusing on my ASI camera. Particularly with my SCT telescope with its long focus travel. I also use the telescope in many different configurations (for observing, for shooting at the Moon with a mirrorless or planets with my astro camera. And even to photograph DSO using the Celestron focal reducer). So here is a neat ti...

Answer My Question: Ball Head Yes or No?
มุมมอง 1.4K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Should you use a ball head for your star adventure? Many say no. some say yes. But who is right and why? Personally, I don't use a ball head, and using one is a recipe for throwing away a lot of data because of flexure, bad balancing and general instability. It also makes difficult to use long telephoto lenses and small refractors. but that is me and while are objective issues, as long as you d...

What if I just use the az GTi stock, can it not take astrophotography ?
Well you can take planetary/lunar/solar images but for deep sky astrophotography you need to upgrade to the equatorial dual arm firmware from skywatcher to let the mount work also in equatorial mode. At best you need a latitude base. Polar alignment can be done via the SynScan app as well as goto
@@andreaminoia2002would a cg4 motorized EQ mount better in taking image's than a stock azgti ?
I have some problems with the mount: sometimes it disconnects, it turns off completely. I noticed, when dismantling it, that if I tighten the screws completely it turns off, while if I unscrew them slightly it turns on. there must be a contact problem but I have no idea where to look. the app and the firmware are updated. Many thanks
Sorry, electronic is not my strongest suit. Maybe some problems with the connectors?
@@andreaminoia2002 ciao Andrea. yes it's probably a connector problem since if I tighten the case screws too much, it turns off. I still have to find a solution
Thanks for the video! Very good explanation of fixing the backlash issue. This caught my interest because I was running a payload of about 9 pounds on my SA. ASIAir guiding setup failed - complaining about backlash - I'm hoping that your solution will fix this issue and guiding setup will succeed allowing me to run my payload.
Hope so too.
Thank you so much Andrea...really appreciate all of this explanation...really clear! 👏
Thanks :)
Exactly great points
Thanks
Did you have access to AZ-GTiX?
Sorry I don't
To balance the AZ, you put all the equipment + weight. Then in the bottom 3/8” you screw a hook and then you put all upside down and put a cable to the ceiling:) Then you move the weight until it’s horizontal… this is very precise
Great explanation. Thanx :)
Glad it was helpful!
Can this be used for wildlife photography, for example a bird in flight? I’d like to point to the bird without looking through the cameras viewfinder. Is it accurate? Can it be adjusted? Is it bright enough when used during the day? Thanks
Yes you can but probably better to get a version with also green laser to be more visible in daylight
My azgti do not create Wi-Fi . The led red light is on but not flashing. is my Wi-Fi broken?
Brilliant! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!

Hello, in your video you used bearing grease, which one exactly? Provide a link to the seller. Thank you 😊
Hello. I use this www.amazon.fr/Super-Lube-21030-Synthetic-Grease/dp/B000XBH9HI
Excellent video for us that prefer to fix than buy new in a disposable society! Thank you, Andrea!
Great video, I will be checking the spring screw tomorrow because I have some play in the RA.
Thank you so much for this video. You have addressed my biggest issues with this wedge. Skywatcher should link to your video from their website for those of us who do push it to the limit. I cant say it enough, but I will just add one final thank you. 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
What do you recommend to balance when pointing the star adventure to targets in the south (when in the northern hemisphere). I run into issues like this in this guys video: m.th-cam.com/users/shortsCfZEbuuMo8k I feel the issue is proper declination balance and the fact that the SA is not designed for "smooth" rotation of that Dec axis as opposed to a motorized Dec mount.
Hola buenas tardes dónde puedo comprar el enganche de SkyWatcher 50ED
hello. the brackets are 3D printed from astrokraken.fr (france). i bet there are similar solutions available now
Nice video bro, could you help me, please could you send me the link of your dovetail and base for finderscope, and i have a ASI224MC camera if i can use that camera for deep Sky. Thank for your help
hi, thanks. here is a link from an european store: www.astroshop.eu/accessories/artesky-polsucher-halterung-fuer-skywatcher-az-gti-montierung/p,62729 I saw something similar on aliexpress, but I can't vouch on the quality
Ottimo video esplicativo. Aggiungo una domanda fondamentale: quali sono le fasi da seguire? Prima bilanciamento e poi allineamento alla polare, o viceversa?
ciao. grazie. prima bilanciamento. su montature cosi' leggere meno manipoli l'attrezzatura dopo l'allineamento, meglio e'
Great video! Have you ever tried out vintage mirror lenses such as the 500mm f8s from Nikon, Tamron or Olympus? Or the newer Tokina ones that came out in the last few years?
thanks :) only vintage lenses I have used are Olympus Zuiko for the OM SLR cameras (film) and a canon FD300. Old lenses can be great to begin with if you already have them, but on stars most of them show limits (coma, chromatic aberrations, large stop interval that let you loose light quite fast, etc)
Need the link for the mount

Ciao andrea, invece per cambiare la manopola posteriore come posso svitarla?
I have the sky watcher adventurer and im having star trails after 15 sec exposures, my tripod is a neweer one and i think the trails come from the fragile composition of it
Quite nice.
Это смерть для монтировки. Тяжёлый камера и груз.
Awesome video. Ive noticed my SWSA V1 will randomly stop tracking, usually after a stong temperaure change, although that might just be a coincidence. I plan on trying this, but have you heard of this happening? The lights dont flash, it just appears to stop tracking.
Superbly presented...thank you! Your well detailed presentation is a modern update similar to the classic CG5 "Astronomy Boy" mount tune-up. Either Pete's Red Grease from ScopeStuff (Texas/USA) or white lithium from the hardware store are both improvements on the thick and sticky Chinese goop. Clear skies!
Many thanks!

Great description for tweaking the Az-GTI (I own it as well). Quite funny, that translation software for spoken language into writing. An "Evoguide" becomes an "Evil Guide".
🤣🤣🤣
Is it worth the investment using the Evoguide 50 ED with a guide scope? Are you dithering with your ASIAir controller and the AZ Gti Mount in equatorial mode?
It surely is worthy. I don't dither as it takes long time. But I never had walking noise in my images.
Can i use a filter in the T adapter of the astro camera or it wont reach focus?
You can. Zwo has a low profile t2-1.25" adapter. If you take the evoff flattener you can stick the filter on a 1.25" nose piece or use a filter draw/filter wheel
Great video, youe earned a new sub! Will this scope work well with an asi294mc? Will it still have coma ŵith field flattener
Thanks. You must get the evoff field flattener from starizona to have a correct circle that will cover the asi294 sensor. It may show some vignetting but should calibrate out with proper flats
Great vid. I would just add that it is best to have it slightly counterweight heavy - as with all astro mounts - so the gears remained meshed as it tracks West overcoming any backlash that can't be adjusted out with the worm adjustment screw.
Short, but great explanation!
Thanks
@@andreaminoia2002 Now I don't care about apps with a polar clock. This is much faster. I have also added a declination scale for the declination bracket, an a 24 hour clock circle to put over the date scale for quick and easy framing based on RA and Dec. No more frustration. 🙂
Ciao, dove vivo non vedo la polare , sai se funziona anche con una piccola montatura equatoriale? Grazie
Ciao. In teoria si. Non sarà precisissimo ma si può fare. Drift alignment funziona meglio ma più laborioso
Awesome tip, been struggling with that focus for a while
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much for this inside view of the tracker. I just bought one on Amazon, and will receive it in a few days. I have two goals: One is to live feed on TH-cam the sun and the moon for a couple of hours, this in alt/az mode. Second is to astrophotograph stuff in the sky, so I have also purchased the stuff needed for that. I will be using my Olympus 300mm f4, and the EM1 Mkiii which can astro focus. It is with your great videos that have helped me to achieve these goals. I have done some pretty good astro landscapes and wish to move on to some more difficult things to do as I'm retired, bad back somewhat and need to fill my time :) Cheers! Randy
thank you very much :) and keep up with the good work
Great little scope, i was getting the skywatcher 72ed but im going for the 50ed for the wider field of view, have a cooled camera to use with it, i kove wide field shots
Hi, great vid, can I ask where you got the weightbar fom please? It is a great industrial thickness, I know it has an M12 thread on it.
Hi, the bar came from Artesky
Can you provide a link? Thank you
Nice video. Very concise, factual, very good images .... Nice job. I'll probably be getting one of these. Thanks for posting it!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the nice video❤. I'm thinking of getting one. How long would the Az gti last if we take good care of it? 5 to 10 years? Would the electronics break down soon?
Excellent video! Thank you
I am +9.9 145.4 e (wgs84) how do I set this? In the southern hemissphere
Very nice video and very instructive for new guys in this field like me. Thank You.
Does that field flattener, and your camera, have M42 threads? Also, does it thread on all the way with your ZWO 1.25 filter adapter? Thank you.
Yes, I connect all via threads. with the filter adapter it does screw almost all the way in. I never had problem with the backfocus
