This came on tv at the same time I GOT a colour tv, prior to this everything was black and white!!!!!!
That's amazing timing. That is so cool that you were there to experience it first hand. You are part of history. Please tell us about your experience.
In all the years I've watched Star Trek and shows about Star Trek, I've never heard Lucille Ball's connection to it. That's interesting.
Isn't it fascinating how important she was to the show? It really could not have happened without her.
A genius ahead of his time.. Gene Roddenberry, there'll never be another Star Trek TOS, and for that matter, another Star Wars 1977-83.
You are 100% right about that!
Though the aliens in the season of Picard who open the vortex over the android planet could have created V'Ger
It's too bad they didn't explore it further.
Hunter wanted half the show and that is why he was off the show. His demands were too much. LLAP
Jeffrey Hunter just wasn't right for Star Trek. I'm glad he left and paved the way for William Shatner.
How about the borg being ceated at the end of star trek the motion picture and end up transported to another time and area only to reappear during tng
I like your theory. 🙂
All this taken straight from the book Star Trek Memories by William Shatner.
It wasn't, but I did real Star Trek Memories when it came out. It's a great book.
Fascinating !
Thank you. 🖖 Live long a prosper.
Second pilots were not uncommon.
Really. That's interesting. Any examples?
@@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast Yes, it is possible for a series to succeed even if it takes more than one pilot episode to get picked up by a network; sometimes networks may request a "re-pilot" or additional footage to further refine the concept and ensure the show's potential before greenlighting a full series. Key points about multiple pilots: Re-piloting: If a network likes the premise of a pilot but feels it needs adjustments, they might ask for a second pilot with changes to the cast, story, or tone to address concerns. Different creative directions: Occasionally, a network might want to see how a show could work with different creative approaches, leading to multiple pilots with distinct variations. Market testing: Sometimes, multiple pilots are used to gauge audience reaction and see which version resonates best with the target demographic. Important considerations: Quality matters: Even with multiple pilots, the quality of the writing, acting, and production needs to be strong to convince a network to pick up the series. Network feedback: The willingness to incorporate feedback from the network is crucial when developing a show through multiple pilots. Risk factor: While multiple pilots can be beneficial, it can also be seen as a higher risk for a network, as it requires more investment upfront.
@@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast While technically most TV shows only have one "pilot" episode, there are a few instances where a series might have had multiple pilot episodes filmed or aired due to significant recasting, major creative changes, or network concerns, leading to a "re-pilot" being produced: "The Office" (US): The original pilot for "The Office" featured a different cast and a slightly different tone compared to the series that aired, which is often considered the "true" pilot. "Scrubs": The original pilot for "Scrubs" had some significant changes in character dynamics and tone compared to the series that eventually aired. "Cougar Town": This series initially began as a different show called "TMI" with a different pilot episode, but when picked up by ABC, it was rebranded with a new pilot featuring the same main characters. "Community": While not a complete re-pilot, the "Community" pilot was significantly edited and reworked before airing. Important points to remember: Most shows only have one pilot episode, and the term "pilot" typically refers to the first episode produced to pitch the series to a network. Sometimes, a show might have a "backdoor pilot" episode, which is an episode from an existing series that functions as a pilot for a potential spin-off.
As far as video sales, you haven't got the slightest clue what you're talking about. Video sales to consumers was common years before this movie was made, with prices between 29 and 49 dollars being the norm. I never spent more than 59 for a tape.
Thank you for your post.
No and No. The simple answers to the questions.
🙂
Well done, kudos.
Thank you so much. 😀
yes koenig was a pervert queer for sure
The best 3 episodes: Doomsday Machine Mirror, Mirror City on the Edge of Forever BTW, I was one of those fans who wrote a letter to NBC after the second season begging them not to cancel it. You're welcome. Also, after season 3, but no dice. It was their loss.
Great list. I think that might be my 3 favorite as well. I'd have to think about it. Amazing that you were part of the letter writing campaign. That makes you a part of history. Thank you for the post, and I'd love to hear your first hand experience watching the show as it was coming out!
@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast My best friend lived next door, and they had a color TV first. I think it was him that turned me on to Star Trek, and at first, I'd watch the show at his house during Season 1. Then we finally got color and I began watching it at home. Whereas my friends dad, who was a pipe-smoking engineer at Chrysler, enjoyed the show and discussed it with us, my father, a post office clerk, dismissed the show as "corny" or something like that. I have to admit there were episodes in Season 3 where I can see his point. I think it was a postcard with a short message that I mailed to NBC. There were suggestions about how to appeal to the network in a newspaper article, I think. There was no internet and information like that was only available in newspapers. That's why everyone had a subscription to either the Detroit News or Detroit Free Press, the more liberal morning paper. That's the one that would more likely run stories about Star Trek. When the show was moved to Friday at 10pm, I vividly recall running all the way home (about a mile) to catch Star Trek after my high school football game ended. I never watched the Saturday morning animated Trek. Doomsday Machine was always played at conventions because it was considered the quintessential episode with great acting, especially Windom, compelling story, and a finale that kept the viewer on the edge of their seat with great editing and score. I still get chills watching Kirk start to sweat as he calmly says, "Gentlemen, I suggest you beam me aboard." I still remember the buzz after City On the Edge of Forever aired. It was the episode that seemed to put the show in the public consciousness thanks to its use of alternate history, which was a very new concept. It really appealed to the imagination and was highly cerebral for a network TV show. I don't know how I remember this since there wasn't an internet but somehow there were other ways of keeping up with the zeitgeist. Mirror, Mirror is a favorite because of the concept and it's emotionally charged ending. The score that plays behind Kirk's appeal to evil Spock is a perfect example of why TOS is still loved. When all the elements of a TV drama came together (dialog, score, editing, etc.) in a scene like this, it was as good as it gets. And Spock's reply as the music swells, "Captain Kirk, I shall consider it," is the most emotionally satisfying moments in the series. Just ahead of Spock telling McCoy, "He knows l, doctor. He knows," at the end of City. Or Spock mind- melding Kirk with the word, "Forget." No other show gave me as many moments as those or that had the same impact. Sorry to go on so long, but it's that kind of show. And definitely watch Star Trek Continues. Kirk and Spock actors do a great job of emulating the original ones, making you forget it's a remake for a moment.
I have 2 favorites from that series which are: "The Trouble With Tribbles" & " The Devil in The Dark".😊
Two great episodes. Trouble with Tribbles is also one of my favorites. 😀
This was incredible the amount new info i got growing up with star trek as it came out was mind blowing very very good job❤
Thank you so much for the kind words. I hope you keep enjoyjng my videos. 😀
At 30:52-ish, a still photo accompanies the narration involving Christopher Lloyd, and indeed the photo shows an actor that appears to be Lloyd. But who else is in the picture? Christopher Walken!
Yes. It is indeed a young Christopher Walken.
Great video!
Thank you so much for kind words.
This is a quality upload, I was quite curious how they filmed this steak toss as it looked “too good to be false.”
Yes! And such a great scene.
I was born in 1965, so I never saw Star Trek during its original network airing. The syndicated episodes were my first exposure, but it still had an enormous effect on my childhood.
15:40. That’s Seattle in the picture.
Wow! You sure know your city!
Another tidbit I heard about Rodenberry, but don't remember where it came from, was that the studios wanted there to be a chaplain on the Enterprise, but Gene steadfastly refused.
Oh wow! That's an incredible and fascinating but if trivia that I've never heard. I woild be consistent with what we know about Roddenberry. I need to look into this. Thank you so much
Not sure if it is a myth, but a later DVD series has a different story about the inter-racial kiss. According to the story, the studios didn't want the kiss to be shown, so they forced a re-shoot. However, Bill Shatner intentionally screwed up the scene repeatedly so the studio was forced to show the original with the kiss.
That's amazing bit of trivia. I'll have to look into it. Thank you letting me know.
Notice how political troll-bots are so desperate for something to cry about, now that their former employers don't need them anymore, that they are even posting on videos like this.
Oh my. I only see the first comments. Are the political people commenting in the comments?
Thank you for letting me know. I went in manually, and you are right. Oddly strange and controversial political posts. I had no idea. Again, thank you letting me know.
@@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast Not sure if anyone can do much about them except to shame them away. TH-cam will suspend, their ability to post (for a day or two) if you flag their comments, but they also will do the same to you. Many post ugly comments just to goad you into a reply so that they can get TH-cam to temporarily suspend your comments. Imagine what sad creatures they must be.
The foolishness and stubbornness of studio execs, makes me wonder how much other good drama they passed on. Gene R had to take them kicking and screaming into accepting a gold-mine.
Gene Roddenberry sure did. And he sure did give them a gold mine. Thank you for your post.
A thoroughly entertaining video with appropriate attention to details both big and small. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for the kind words. I put a lot of effort into these videos, so it makes me so happy to see them appreciated. It encourages me to keep making them! Thank you so much for your post.
Unfortunate random segments of Shatner spectacularly over-acting.
😄🤣 It's not Star Trek without those.... just kidding. I think I toned it down in future videos.
This final movie spoke eloquently to my generation, and I’m not ashamed to admit there were moments that moved me to tears, and Plummer as Chang was pure joy. A masterpiece! ❤
It was indeed such a heart-warming and emotional experience seeing this movie on screen. 😊 Thank you for your post.
It had its moments, but overall I found it tedious. IMO even that wonderful cast couldn’t rescue this movie.
It's too bad. It totally killed the momentum that Star Trek 4 created. It's still fun and rewatchable, but it's weird and definitely not a good movie. 😀 I think it humbled William Shatner.
Great vid with loads of info & no annoying background music. Well done
Thank you so much. I hope you stick around for more of my videos. Im also finishing up Goldfinger, and afterwards will make a video on Star Trek: The Animated Series. Enjoy!
Always loved the Bond films and Sean was always my favorite. Pretty interesting stuff. Some facts I already knew, others I didn't. Was amazed at how truly beautiful Lois Maxwell was in that very young photo.
Thank you so much for your comment. I love the Bond films as well. I hope to eventually make videos on all of them. I hope you stick around for them all. Have you checked out my From Russia With Love video? I'm almost done with Goldfinger, and should be released in a few days. And yes, Lois Maxwell was so pretty in her youth.
It certainly was a "Diaster".
It certainly was. 🙂
Fascinating...
🖖 Thank you. Live long and prosper, my friend.
@@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast 😀
when did sulu become a woke liberal fruitloop?
Was that really necessary? 👎🏽
😂🤣😂🤣absolutely George has chosen to be outspoken and adamant about his disdain for our Greatest President ever It’s only fair that he is called out 😎👍🏼
It's called by several names. Trump Derangement Syndrome or Woke Mind Virus. Hollywood is infested with it, unfortunately, to their great detriment. My theory is that all the Satan worshipping pedos have been dealt with and that's the reason for all the mansions being sold and A List actors AWOL from award shows.
Now, go watch the 11 episode series "Star Trek: Continues"!! You will be amazed, impressed, and entertained. 😊
Oh Wow! I heard about this show. It stars Vic Mignola, right. I heard it's great. I will definitely check it out!
Great suggestion! My expectations were low, but by the third episode, I was totally into the stories and not comparing the new actors to the originals. Kirk and Spock were particularly well cast.
Interesting facts but I couldn’t take the outside film clips anymore you lost me
Star Trek Wrath of Khan was literally the second video I ever made in my entire life. Perhaps I used too many outside gifs back then. Check out my Star Trek TOS which is more recent. I still use gifs but dialed them back. Let me know what you think.
Plato's Stepchildren: Are you joking? You claim that it was aired without incident. No it was not. I am embarrassed to point out that this episode (Along with three others), was banned by the BBC, until 1993. It was finally broadcast once. I am appalled to think that my country, the nation that declared war on Slavery, banned this episode. I am aware that the episode met with disapproval from certain regions within the the States. I wish there had been no racist motivation behind the outcry. But, just saying it, don't make it so.
I was only a little toddler when it aired, so I don't remember all the details and controversy as it aired. I can only rely on books, articles, and interviews with people that were there. However, it seems you were actually there as an adult to see it and had a very different experience. That makes you a witness to history! Your first hand account is VERY VALUABLE. We would all love to hear any genuine first-hand accounts of watching the episode. What happened? What was it like? What was the feedback? What were the incidents that occurred. And of course, what country did you live in back then? Thank you so much. I can't wait to read your post!
@@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast Very gracious of you. Thank you. We were young boys when Star Trek came out. I could not care less about the show. I was obsessed with the Space Race. I live in the state of England. You may have known it as Great Britain, or GB before the more inclusive title UK was adopted in the C21st. I thought I made my nationality clear when I mentioned the War on the Atlantic Slave Trade. I am sorry this was not clear. Obviously, as Plato was banned by the BBC, I did not see it. A couple of my schoolmates were fans of the show. They collected anything related to the Star Trek. They were furious when the anticipated Plato was not broadcast. It was not until the mid 1980s that one lad got hold of two video tapes for Forty Quid a pop. (Not cheap). Each tape contained 2 of the banned episodes. In 1993, the BBC finally included the missing episodes in a final run of Star Trek. Background: The BBC did not make the public aware of these 4 episodes. Only devout fans were aware of their existence. It was not until the mid 1970s that Star Trek started to connect with a larger audience. The streets would empty temporarily, as boys raced home on their Raleigh Choppers to watch Trek. There was an instance of public outcry in GB around the same time as the Plato event. Of all things, a Doctors and Nurses Soap Drama caused outrage when a Black Nurse was kissed a White Doctor. The actress was fired to appease the complainers. It turns my stomach to think racists still held sway within living human memory in England. The BBC has been shown to be corrupt for a long time. The fans revealed stories from North America where like-minded bigoted groups put pressure on the producers to cancel black actors from the show. These eejits hailed from the Bible Belt and the South. With the Civil Rights movement taking centre stage, it may not surprise you to learn that Star Trek came under attack from the States situated therein. Plato was a trigger point. I incorrectly assumed you were have a bubble when you spoke of the "...want more..." letter. I could hardly Adam and Eve what I was hearing. I enjoyed your coverage, well done you. Many similar productions miss the mark entirely and fail to mention Lucille Ball and infighting. Instead they focus entirely on the positives. MLK was murdered on the day my wife was born. I can never forget that date. I am sure you will agree that History is important. As Orwell stated "He who controls the past, controls the future". I have no desire to ruin your Thanksgiving Tale, or The Waggons West vs Indians stories. You own these. They belong to America. I only ask that you dig deeper (not the internet and certainly not TH-cam). You already came across the MLK/Uhura story, probably from Nichelle Nichols own testimonial. I grew up in an era of Libraries and late night reading. Fair Play to you. My best wishes.
Star Trek first aired in the UK in 1969. I watched all of series one and two but lost interest by series three, as, to be frank, the third series was terrible. I did go to watch Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and I found the special effects to be spectacular for the time, but sadly, I found the movie to be a tediously boring Hodge-podge of wooden acting and dialogue.
Thank you for your comment. Please check out my video on Star Trek The Original Series, where I talk about each season of the show, and you may understand the train-wreck events that lad to the third season being so terrible. It's a fascinating story. I hope you enjoy it!
Don't forget Leonard Nimoy's appearance in the sci-fi ICON ....THEM
That's true! He had a small uncredited "blink and you'll miss it" part. And boy, he was sure young, wasn't he?
Spectre was introduced in the book Thunderball (1961) not On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1963). Also the Thunderball novel was based on a screen treatment that was co-written by Ian Fleming, Kevin Mcclory, and Jack Whittingham.
Thanks for the correct. Totally mispoke. I was thinkkng OHMSS because that was the first time Bond met Blofed. Actually, I talked a little bit about the McClory situation in my Dr No video, and will talk about the whole story in depth in my Thunderball episode. (And of course again when I talk about Never Say Never Again.) Thanks for your help!
@TotallyAwesomeFilmsPodcast No problem, I appreciate the thanks
Love it! Don't cut the end so quickly! Credits?
Thank you so much for the kind words and for the feedback. Perhaps I'll put in a short ending where I ask viewers to "like and subscribe". What do you think?
I don’t usually watch this stuff because they never get to the point and leave out half the information. BUT this documentary was great. Gave us the important background information with out trying to tell a long story. Very much enjoyed this.
Thank you so much for the kind words. I hope you keep watching and enjoying my videos. 😊
I was there from the beginning, saw everything chronicled here. Never missed acste. I have been a "Trekie" since the 60's.
That's amazing! It certainly was an amazing show! Thank you for your post.
That third feature about being million of years in the past does explain the millions of galaxies found in its memory. I would like to know what kinds of children Veger and Decker had. That would be an interesting next Star Trek show.
Oooo... that would be interesting.
Best movie in history
This movie certainly has its fans. 😀
the English translation is kind of crappy
What the heck are you talking about? This video is made by me only in english.
The only real gripe for me was the number of decks shown in the elevator the heroe used to get to the top. The decks shown in Scotty's guide to the Enterprise shows 26. Also the time taken for the Enterprise to get to the center of the galaxy make no sense at all. They could've said it was a unknown location that just appeared when the plot needed it to.
Interesting.
I think the merging of vger with the woman created the original Borg queen
Good theory!
By far the best well documented video on TH-cam for the beginning of Star Trek. A milestone..
Thank you so much for the kind words. Comments like these are why I do this, and encourage me to make more videos. 😀 I hope you keep watching, and enjoying my other videos.
It has been 20+ years since I have played it, but I believe Star Trek Armada echoed the Voyager traveling back in time and creating the Borg theory.
Are you thinking about Star Trek Legacy? I talk about it in the video.
@ never played Legacy. I remember the story and Armada is the only Star Trek game I’ve played.
