I especially liked that a portion of this movie was filmed on the streets in San Francisco without extras. something that hadn't been before in Star Trek moviea and TV shows. and this continues to show Leonard Ninoy's incredible ability as an actor, director, and human being. and his bonus contribution by saving the whales that were on the endangered species list. Leonard Ninoy was an incredible human being and he is definitely missed.

They filmed the aquarium parts at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I was in the military in Monterey, Calif (Defense Language Institute) at the time and I remember they were looking for a few soldier volunteers to go down to become possible extras in "some movie being filmed at the aquarium". I didn't go - I could have kicked myself when I found out later it was this Star Trek movie. 😳

I get comfortably immersed in Star Trek IV, the Voyage Home, aka "The Whale Movie." It has everything. The best cast interaction, and a focus more on the real world than special effects. In fact, it's the world in _our time,_ with a wonderful satire of our society. We go to Star Trek movies to leave our present and our mores, yet this brings us back to them, giving us an outsiders' view of ourselves. Yet, we are so familiar with the Star Trek characters and their time that we feel we are both the Enterprise crew and Jillian Anderson, the bus passengers and so forth.
The movie is driven by environmental concern, but meaningful rather than just bandwagon virtual signaling. The movie deftly avoided triteness at every turn.
    The consummate superb work.

Plus several other TV credits before she made TREK IV in 1986. CHUCKY and TVs 7th HEAVEN series came years long there-after her Trek IV appearance.

I can't blame them for going with a lighter tone for this film. Star trek 2 and 3 are kind of dark. Star trek 2 has very little if any levity. Its all about Khan being obsessed with vengeance and Kirk being depressed about growing old and we watch Spock die a horrible death. Star Trek 3 is a straight forward rescue caper that is lighter in tone but there's still some heavy moments in it like when they blow up the Enterprise and Kirk's son gets killed. This film is just a fun romp through the streets of 1980s San Francisco.

Not really I think they wanted stars for Academy Years. The names were Tom Cruise for Captain Kirk and John Cusack for Spock. A less expensive actor Ethan Hawke was also under consideration for Kirk. I'm glad we got VI instead.

But what I'm about to tell you you're not going to believe it My very very most favorite Star Trek TV episode was a spin-off of one of the least franchises I liked and that was deep space nine So boring I shipped it didn't go anywhere ... And of all the spin-off and of all the episodes and Terry Farrell and that whole crew was awesome "TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS" I so desperately wanted to see more episodes and even a movie that would have interacted😊 other Star Trek Cruise with the original Star Trek crew That was so masterfully done I would have loved to seen a movie like that!

I totally believe you because that is also my favorite episode! 😄 Deep Space 9 is my favorite Star Trek series, and I remember when I saw Trials and Tribulations, it blew my mind. I saw it on DVD in 2003, and I had a small portable DVD player and I carried it around and showed that episode to my family and friends! Give Deep Space 9 another chance, first season wasn't very good, but it picks up in season 2 and just keeps getting better!

Check out the latest TOS novel, "Lost To Eternity." It follows a podcaster in 2024 who is investigating the disappearance of Gillian Taylor. It's a WILD ride and serves as a really modern sequel to Voyage Home.

Last time I was there in 2022, I had to visit South West Plaza where I practically lived in the 1980's and 90's. It's still around and hanging on. I was happy about that. I'm always sad that Cinderella City is gone.
I hope Bo Nix can do it! I was getting excited about Russell Wilson in the beginning, but that fell apart by the end. I just recorded From Russia With Love, and will spend the next few days making the video. I hope to be able to do all the Bond films. After Goldfinger, I'll go back and finish Star Trek. So glad you guys decided not on the tiny fish but the big whale that was awesome .... Oh my god Eddie Murphy but then I have to admit there are so many well-known actors you guys picked to play a rolling Star Trek and deliver the goods where I never would have casted them No way know how and I love Eddie Murphy but again I got to say no Eddie Star Trek No but I have to admit as actors continuously inform us: WE ARE ACTORS THIS IS WHAT WE DO ... AND WE HAVE A BAD HABIT OF TYPE CASTING WHEN THEY CAN DO THE METAMORPHOSIS AND THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT AND FUN OF BEING AN ACTOR IS PLAYING DIFFERENT ROLES AND MANY MANY DO HAVE THE SKILL TO DELIVER ... Guys know the story about after the wild ones and the waterfront with Marlon Brando and then he wanting to play an Okinawan in the movie TEA HOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON and the directors and producers said heck no he's a dramatic actor He don't do comedy They turned him down He shows back up the next day in full makeup They didn't know who he was and they said to his manager now you see this guy he's got the part He's perfect and as they were telling him how this guy's perfect and Marlon Brando couldn't have done this Marlon Brando starts taking the prosthesis office face and showed who he was There's another movie I can't watch it enough I love it Was Glenn Ford Machiko Kyo Eddie Albert and Harry Morgan of MASH ... What a loving and Endearing Movie ... I've watched it a dozen times I could watch it a dozen more times I love the movie Just love it!

Whatever role he's playing he acts more like Kirk than he does when he's playing the role of Kirk in Star Trek I can only blame the damn director writers or producers cuz he's nothing like Kirk in the Star Trek movies and he's always like Kirk and all the other movies and characters he plays pisses me off so f****** much and as for the rest of the characters It's such a hypocrisy no matter who plays Spock is spot on and everybody else it doesn't matter and it sucks ...
