    Hi, nice video, a couple of things to clarify, Uruguay is expensive, yes, of course, it is a matter of a small market and high taxes, but it has other benefits, for example, education is free Up to university level, and of good quality, as well as health, it is paid for with labor taxes, the social security system is very good, and labor laws are at the European level, in terms of leave and unemployment insurance, and I agree that it is somewhat boring, but Uruguay is not only Montevideo or the south of the country, there are beautiful places in the rest of the country, such as thermal tourism in the North or the cave and river areas, you should know more about the country, greetings

    Johnny’s Spanish 😂. I am the American in our relationship and I feel your pain Johnny with pronunciation!! I like to tease my husband (the Colombian) and place the emphasis in words in the wrong place or use an Italian accent just to get him annoyed 😂. I know this sounds a little nuts but I orient myself around Costco here in the states, maybe because I used to work there. But the fact that there is a Costco there says a lot about stability & safety. Btw I know people who build Costcos and they said Colombia is slated to have Costco warehouses built there.

    If there's a coastal location in Latin American with great beaches and a more temperate climate, I'm sure not aware of it. Seems like you have to deal with somewhat extreme heat anywhere you might choose, though it doesn't seem Puerto Vallarta gets quite as extreme as the Riviera Maya where in July and August it's all but intolerable. Perhaps Rio de Janeiro comes the closest to being ideal climate-wise, as it's only really hot in the summer months of December - February.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for those recommendations! --- Overall, as you are aware, we are choosing to bounce from city to city discovering more and more what we like and dislike. When it comes to weather, we really like Mexico City this time of year, which is where we are currently. It gets just a little warm mid-day then cools off at night. We don't know if we could truly live by the ocean in the long run, because most approachable places by the ocean are just hot. We tend to enjoy mountainous areas more... Anywho... If we run into a city with more cities comparable to Puerto Vallarta, we'll let you know... Hand down though... THE FOOD is incredible... Wait until next week's video to see all the dishes we tried and loved.

    I feel like y'all had a negative preconceived opinion of Montevideo and did not give it a fair chance. Prices have definitely gone up in the area.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi! Thank you! - We were in Dallas for the summer this year, after this trip. We must say, prices felt very similar between Montevideo and Dallas. But we are also comparing our experience to spending a lot of time in Colombia. Colombia is much more affordable comparatively. --- But, if we asked ourselves a more straight forward question, like, what we live in Dallas of Montevideo in the long run?... Montevideo would win due to the fact you don't need to own a car to live an do normal things. Plus, you have beaches, which Dallas does not. --- We try not to travel places with a preconceived opinion, but is sometimes impossible because people hype up places.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Vivi! - We'll have to answer this in a future video... I cannot say there is one thing... The most difficult thing in general is probably expectations... Like the expectation in Colombian culture is to prioritize things around family and family activities, versus in the US people tend to plan things around themselves as an individual. --- BUT, because expectations for all sorts of things like this one example are consistently brought up or discovered, it makes it easier to maintain openness and perspective on how the other sees or views things, or has adopted/inherited ideas/perspectives from their culture of origin... This question needs its own video.

    What are the differences in growing up in two different countries? Family life, schooling, etc

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      O MY.... This just deserves its own video... The differences are drastic. Widny (Colombiana) grew up in Bogota in a densely populated city... Jonny (Amerian) grew up in the suburbs of Dallas TX. Public school is usually a good and practical option in the suburbs but not the case in big cities like Bogota... Widny went to private school and Jonny was in public school for elementary and home-schooled for high-school. --- Family life is different too... In Colombia things are centered around the family, so the weekends are almost always spent entirely with the family. That is from Friday night to Sunday night, all day, every day... In the US, you're more of individual, you do what you want... Especially the way Jonny grew up, there wasn't much emphasis on family in his adulthood until Widny came around... --- We'll have to plan answering this one in more depth in a future video.

I guess it’s the best choice not to wreck your nervous system by being scared and paranoid all the time (which is my issue too because it makes you all fight-and-flighty), while being close enough to Bogotá to visit family, attend concerts, go to the malls and restaurants, etc. But that requires having a car, which is something I understand you guys do not want. Otherwise you would have to take a bus and then Uber around.

      Ha! This is because we’ve been in Bogota Colombia, which ranked #1 for the worst traffic congestion last year according to Bloomberg. - We’ve been on the car for 2 hours to just drive 10 miles. - BUT, we don’t get in a car but maybe once or twice a week there… Our issue with Dallas, and many American cities, is the fact that you have to drive about a mile to get to a grocery store just to pick up some salt or limes.

    I've visited Dallas, but among Texas cities I vastly preferred Austin with its more manageable size and amazing music scene. In any case, though I agree it is nice to live in a city (Medellín in my case) where it isn't absolutely necessary to have a car (my bicycle has been sufficient for the four years I've lived here), at times I do have to admit that I pine a little for the U.S. suburban lifestyle where there's space between homes, you have private yard space, and you have the convenience and efficiency of private transportation for taking trips or (for enhanced safety) going out at night. I hope to find a happy medium between these two lifestyle models sometime within the coming year, but most likely looking towards the El Cafetero region and either Manizales or Armenia.

  • @chiefenumclaw7960
    @chiefenumclaw7960 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Dallas is super walkable... you just drive to the places that you want to walk. They're also talking about adding pedestrian lanes alongside the freeway. This is really the best of both worlds, if you get tired of walking, you just stick out your thumb and a trucker will pick you up.

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for the view and comment! - I think you just proved my point exactly. You MUST drive to all the walkable areas... That's simply the culture in many US cities and especially Dallas/DFW. That is, there are these really interesting walkable areas (Deep Ellum, Lower Greenville, Las Colinas, Legacy Hall, Ft. Worth Stock Yards, etc.)... But if you want to visit or live in Dallas, you just end up driving and parking next these places... Then enjoying them for a few hours before you're back in a car. Many other cities in other parts of the world are not build this way. Instead, it's walkable throughout the whole city and connect with robust public transportation. --- Hitch hiking? @lifetheorycouple 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @joemarine2 - Thank you for the view and comment! - It’s not much of an estimate. It’s real data based on what we actually spent in one whole month. We track our spending throughly for various reasons. If you wanted to live in a smaller studio apartment in a less desired area, like we did, then the spending would be close to this. That is $2,500 to $3,500 for a month depending on the amount of activities and eating out you do. So, ($3,500 x 12) / .75 = $56,000… That is monthly spend times 12 months, divided by .75 (assuming taxes). - I’m interested, where do you believe the estimate is wrong? - This number does not reflect general savings or retirement savings.

    In general, do you find the people to be nicer in Medellin or Bogota?

    • @lifetheorycouple
      @lifetheorycouple 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @SynthwaveLana - Thank you for your view and comment! - Jonny speaking here... I have to tread a little lightly with my words here... In my experience, I find that people in Medellin and Bogota to be more similar than not. That is, I find them to both be equally rude and nice. --- For example, I find it rude how Colombians (again, both Paisas and Rolos) do not have spatial awareness, they stop in front of you in the streets, they cut you off in line, they constantly get too close to you and your personal bubble and never say 'excuse me'... But I have gotten used to it by this point... This has happened many times in both cities. --- However, Colombians are all nice in that once you get to know a person more intimately, as a friend, you are invited to all their social events with open arms. You're invited into their homes, their parties, and many social gatherings. They give you food to eat and even a place to sleep. --- Paisas may sound more nice because they have a cuter Spanish accent, where as Rolos speak faster and more directly. But in terms of how you are treated, it's been the same... Where I start to feel more welcomed and accepted more than usual is when you get out of the larger cities. For example, in Villavicencio, I went on a small hike on Verede el Carmen, and people there would stop me and ask a million questions in intense interest about what I was doing there. You don't get that in Medellin or Bogota. In Medellin, in some areas, like Poblado, since I am a gringo with a Colombiana, we often get strong looks because there is a passport bro culture were there are bunch of gringos just looking to pick-up/hook-up with Colombianas... We met and got married in the States... So, it's just annoying to get visually judged because we look like that stereotype when visiting... This does not happen Bogota... But with this said, and since I have been to many other Latin American countries... Colombians are some of the worst people who will just stare at foreigners and give strong looks... I have not felt this way in Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Peru, or Montevideo... --- THEN, if we were to compare Costeños to other parts of Colombia... I have real/strong opinion, that Costeños are exceptionally more rude than any other type of Colombian. Let me know your thoughts on all this! This is a great quesiton!

    Ah I see in the comments you've provoked the wrath of the gaslighting Argentinians by daring to suggest that their country isn't heaven on earth. "How dare you provide an un-biased honest review! You're wrong! I'm right! Shut up! Go home then!" etc. It's so sad to see such aggression, hostility and bad attitudes towards tourists; but welcome to Argentina! A very good summary I'd say. Buenos Aires was also one of my least favourite cities in South America, for many reasons but mostly because of the local people who I found to be unfriendly, rude, aggressive, closed-minded, and to be frank a bit brain-washed into thinking that Buenos Aires was not just a nice place to live, but the best. It was a real shock as South Americans are some of the friendliest, kindest, welcoming people on earth; whereas Buenos Aires was the complete opposite. But then again, Buenos Aires doesn't feel like South America in many ways (food, architecture, culture, etc) so perhaps that lack of South American friendliness should in fact be expected. Keep up the great videos.

Would we live here? --- Buenos Aires has more pros than cons that's for sure. We loved the city layout and the international influence... It'd be a no-brainer for us to settle there.
