Late Season Traditional Muzzleloader Elk Hunt
มุมมอง 22Kปีที่แล้ว
This is my first time hunting with a muzzleloader, it would defiantly be a challenge. Snow drifts were deep and temps were cold. This is a Traditional muzzleloader only hunt, the season last about a week in the middle of December. Access is defiantly an issue, many of the roads are completely drifted in in many areas.

Blizzard bull, GO EARLY/STAY LATE
มุมมอง 29Kปีที่แล้ว
Opening week of Montana general season got cold, snowy and western!! When we packed in it was warm and sunny, then it turned winter. One thing that I've never seen was healthy trees that froze too fast and were busting off and hitting the ground, and I don't mean one or two I mean hundreds of trees were hitting the ground and we had some near misses. Kane connected on a good bull on this hunt a...

Hunting public land bulls is not as easy as it looks in the movies, as you will see on Kelly and Ryan's 2022 hunt. We will grind it out looking for big bulls and it won't always go as planned but we always have a good time.

Follow along as I take one of my best whitetail bucks. We had some tough conditions, it was cold and clear with a full moon, crunchy snow and wolves in the area which always makes for poor hunting, but luck was on my side.

Mountain Mule Deer hunt, GO EARLY/STAY LATE #6
Good bull and a great hunt but on the muzzleloader don’t slam the ball down so hard on the powder it deforms the ball and crushes the powder and has a different burning rate when it is smaller grain and could throw your shot on longer range. Try to use the same pressure when it gets to the powder, as it’s against the powder you’re running good. I use a traditions pa rifle flintlock for my hunts gotta love the good smoke pole
@@jacobbennett4106 Thanks and thanks for the tip, I honestly haven’t had a lot of experience with muzzleloader hunting. I am really enjoying the challenge. I have a new appreciation for you guys hunting with the flintlocks.
Awesome content as always!! Congrats on a good bull 👍
Fantastic! I knew you didn’t miss. 😊
Don't look to traditional with them sites just saying 🤔
@@jarreddraper5664 they were the sights that came with the gun, when I get a chance I’ll change them out to appease you. How about the Kuiu jacket, should I change that to something more traditional?
What type of plug did you put in your barrel?
@@SteveFerry-z1c .50 round ball, 90 grains of powder
Super cool man! This bull is identical to my oregon archery bull this year! Love the Jeremiah Johnson music! Poetic for the muzzle loader an snow!
@@CoreyThomas-lt9dm thanks, congratulations on the bull.
Fuck yea gents! These dudes are bad ass, stay safe guys.
great job God bless
thank you

Great stalk on a beauty bull! Way to plug that barrel, I learned the hard way! Thanks for the video. Enjoyed!!
Seems like I always leave the same comment but man do I love how you men hunt!! Hardcore and hard working! Congrats to you and Coy on a great bull. Great shot, great channel!
Thanks Mark, hope your having a fun and successful season
Well done. Congratulations. What caliber rifle did you use? What grain bullet? Love the western hunts. Never been on one. A dream for me.
@@rangerreno1249 thanks, he shoots a 7mm-08 I think 140gr
@ thanks 406. Always enjoy learning. Really enjoy your channel.
Alright, way to go young feller! Down here on the southwest corner, I'm thinkin i need a packin crew like that to get away from the da-gum general season zoo.............I've been wondering if'n you guys would have some thunder stick hunts lol. Safe packin pard
Congrats, nice bull, thanks for sharing
Congrats - nothing beats quality family time out hunting!
@@jeffbitton1836 So right you are, thanks
What kind of camera are you using for this hunt? Cool bear footage and kill footage of the elk.
Thanks, we use sony ax53 camera on a tripod
@ thanks for sharing that. I’ve been looking at the Sony also.
@ I’ve got two of them actually, one got a little busted up but still working. They are simple to operate, quick to get going and have been really reliable. In cold weather the batteries are easy to take on and off and I put the sticky backed toe warmers on them and they last really well.
@ that’s a great idea for keeping them warm to operate properly. I’ve been looking at that one and a Canon equivalent.
Great shot young man Just my inexperience never ever use trash bags to put your meat in they are toxic get yourself some gamer bags the meat can't cool off in bags
@@willisbyler811 thanks for your comments. Just to let you know the meat was in good quality game bags, we just use the plastic bags to transport meat in our backpacks. It keeps the blood from getting all over our packs. One thing you for sure don’t want is a bloody pack while hiking around in grizzly country. We do appreciate your concern, thanks
Love it guys. Great work!
Nice short video. Pretty cool how that all worked out. Great footage.
@@b8ranch thanks, I’ve been meaning to watch your moose hunting video. I’ve got it saved. Looks like another dandy bull

Awesome young men
What brand rifle is that Kane shot the bull with has a muzzle break and looks nice, the rifle looks about the same as Trevars rifle when he smoked that huge 6 point whitetail, I love watching your videos
I want to say it was a Kimber but I'd have to ask him. He's actually up in the mountains right now.
@ good deal I’ve got some friends in Montana right now gonna try their hands again this year for some muleys hope to see u make some vidjas Kelly
Love watching these videos..getting excited for this years opener
Thanks. It is what we live for, fall is the best time of the year
I loved the "Bob" and really enjoyed your video....from a bowhunter who packed many seasons into the BMW with my two Tennesee Walking horses alone chasing elk (70's and 80's). (From the Benchmark-Agusta side)
I bet you have some great memories and stories of that. How was the hunting in the 70's back there?
That was pretty damn cool ! Great video! Anyone who's stomped in deep snow know what hell it can play on your legs and lungs . I bow hunt for the majority of my critters but there something about the smell off black powder smoke and crisp morning air that just belongs together. Love it !!!
Thanks, Yeah on this hunt I was wondering at times why I was so picky during bow season but looking back I'm glad I was picky
Awesome video. Love your content
Thank you
You boys know how to do it up right! Mighty fine I'd say.
Thank you, we appreciate the kind words
Outstanding hunt, I can't tell you how much I'm enjoying all or your videos. I used to guide some in Colorado years ago, and you show the action just as it unfolds, it's as if I'm right there with you guys. Keep up the great work, thank you.
Thank you, we appreciate your kind words
Ah yes a family tradition from my childhood. I hated doing this so much when I was a kid but now I look back on those days very fondly and miss those days more than most on somedays. The smell of the wood being cut, being piled, being stored, and the woods in the fall. Our father would let my friend and I have a huge bonfire every late fall, made out of all the unwanted scraps and brush pieces. Some years that brush piles would be taller than three to four of my grand dads standing on top of each other and once that fire was set. Holy crap the flames got high, especially when some old tires were thrown in. With that said, I agree with you 100% about wood heat. It just feels different and better than other forms of winter heating. Thanks for jogging my memory bud. I hope you and your family are doing well. Cheers!!!🍻
Thanks, I like hearing your memories of wood cutting from your childhood. Have a great day.
Jesus has blessed you and you’re family Kelly to be able to Up there, I love watching you’re videos and brings a lot of joy to my heart, inspiring honestly. Thankful that you make these vidjas, I miss the mountains and elk hunting.
Thanks
When you take the time to always say thank you and how thankful you guys are to do what u do it’s humbling u don’t take it for granted but u appreciate it, I wish more hunters were the way you guys are
