Hi, what's the diameter of the bungees you used?
Hi. For the door bungee I use 3mm, and for the inner tension adjustment I used 2mm which was small enough to fit inside the seam. I hope this helps you!
Thanks Mate from Australia ⛺️
You’re welcome ☺️ I hope some of the ideas work out well for you!
Thank you for sharing another great trip left feeling inspired for another visit out that way. Just a valley or three over from most of my times spent in the black mountains. Just shows how a different approach to the mountains can bring a fresh experience. Did you feel well out of the way parked up on the grass verge? Thanks again👍
Thanks! Each of the ridges has it’s own unique character, and the views West were brilliant. The car was fine on the verge; well off the road. I didn’t see any better parking spots higher up the valley.
@longsufferinghiker Hi Charles thank you for replying. Yes the spot you parked at looks the best (as far as I could tell scooting through google street view). Not in direct view of the farms either. As with a lot of channels I follow, older vids occasionally pop up at random. And I hadn't seen this one before 👍 Planning to get out at the end of the month and the black mountains are only 90 mins from home. Would be nice to have a frosty clear one. Thanks again 👍
Thank you for your CWT video and this one, very honest comments. My personal favourite trail in UK so far has been the Southern Upland Way, can recommend. Regards
Thanks a lot for your really kind comments; much appreciated! I did the Southern Uplands Way in the 1990s and I have very fond memories of it. A return trip is definitely tempting!
Excellent video and your epic walk, thank you very much, loved it.
Wow, thanks!!
Great video Ty. The unnamed 'lake' near Torver I believe is Throng Moss reservoir (disused) .
Great video Charles! I'm all set for doing the Cumbria Way in May 2025 and was planning on doing the "normal" route, although having seen what the more mountainous route can offer, I think I'm going to do that route instead 👍😁
Thanks mate. The Mountains option on day 2 was well worth the extra effort. It was also less crowded 😉 but I would say keep your options open and choose the best route for the weather conditions. I went my own way after Swirl How and went via the Wrynose Pass to the end of Langdale, which saved time because I was short of daylight in November. Have a great time!!
11:30 so much wind and flat water and there is no windsurfer? 😢
Well done , it also forms part of the Hard moors race ultra running race series the Hardmoors 110 with a 36hour time limit to do it in ! with an Ascent:16,500ft/5000 m this years winner did it in 20:55:58 hrs, record time stands at 19:23:13 .
Strewth! That's some achievement!
Lovely trail with great hills and views. What time of year was this pls? How do you find the Lanshan 1 as compared to the Lanshan 2 - besides the obvs weight and size difference? Thank you for sharing!
This was in June. It was a good time of year for it; I could go more lightweight than usual and hence used the Lanshan 1, with a 3 season inner. It was absolutely fine, and definitely out performed the Copper Spur, especially in the windy night outside Staithes. I would use it again.
Walked the Cleveland Way last year. Really enjoyed your video. I did an extra bit from Filey to Bridlington which was even better than coastal part of Cleveland Way. You seem to have a decent microphone .not affected by the wind.
Glad you enjoyed it! I got fed up with wind noise on the iphone, so now use a plug in lavalier microphone and I've added a bigger wind baffle; it's extra hassle but the results are well worth it. Cheers
That was fantastic Charles and one of those trips you shall never forget, you had fantastic weather and such a great time. Thanks for sharing your adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed it. 🍻
Nice to hear from you, Dave. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Charles thanks so much for bringing this trail to my attention. What a great time of Year to experience it as well. Phill
Thanks Phill. It's a great trail
It looks to me that you and I bought the same chest pack? The only drawback to it is that I use the second zipped area down from the top to hold my phone (it fits perfectly) but I have to be careful that I dont miss and put it in that area that has no bottom to it. I managed to do this twice, and luckily my phone fell on grass and not on tarmac. A great video, enjoyed it.
I totally agree; it’s very risky. So much that I’ve thought of finding a way to close the slot. So far I haven’t come up with a neat solution
I noticed your still carrying the Motorola defy have they sorted out the problem with the contract etc….?
Yes, and it is still working most of the time. But I did find that deep valleys such as Langdale made it harder to get a satellite connection. So far there’s no sign of the tracking service that was promised
Hi Charles - thanks for sharing your experience on the Cumbria way - great video with lots of stunning views 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to let me know
Hi Charles - I really enjoyed your adventure and can relate first hand to quite a few of those views - particularly that last one off High Pike. I like your style: nice chap, goes walking without razzamataz, has nice time, the end. Really good. Thank you
Thanks Matt; that’s really kind of you. Your nice comments really mean a lot to me!
I always love it when Charles puts out a new adventure. Cup of coffee, slice of cake and an hour of your ever brilliant musings. That chest pouch looks very handy, would you mind sharing what make/model it is please?
Thanks mate; that's really kind of you :-) I used to use an OMM chest pod, but I got fed up with it; there's only one pocket, and it's not waterproof, which caused me problems because I keep my phone in it. So I switched to this one: www.treadlitegear.co.uk/Hill-And-High-Street-Chest-Pack---Multi-Carry-Bag It's made of DCF and is pretty waterproof and hard wearing. Plus it has several pockets. I love it!
I fancy this walk next year, did you use the cicerone guide book?
Yes, I had it on Kindle on my phone. It was excellent, especially for navigation on the first day!
Its a cracking walk but as you say the signage leaves a lot to be desired, which is a shame really.
I’m glad that it’s not only me who thinks that!!
It's a temperature inversion Charles. Clouds can not invert 😮
Ooops. I’ll try to remember that next time!
Excellent Charles, you were so, so lucky with the weather. I have to say it is the first day that puts me off doing this route 👍
Starting at Coniston would be perfectly OK. And missing the last section into Carlisle, too
@longsufferinghiker Yes, I think that is a very good idea ☺️
Awesome, thank you!
You’re welcome ☺️
@@longsufferinghiker This trail is high on my list and I am desperate to do it. No midges this time of year either. Glad you are still sporting the Lanshan 2 - I just bought (additional) the 4 season inner for mine for the colder months. The Lakes are gorgeous in ALL seasons but the midges are an unpleasant fact in the warmer months. Might have to do the high route to avoid them.
Yes, the trusty Lanshan 2 did me proud. I was going to use my lanshan 1, but opted for the 2 with a 4 season inner because I was going to be spending long nights in the tent at that time of year. This high route was definitely well worth the effort in those conditions; the views and scenery were stunning!
Hi Charles- love this trip mate- its on my list now new subscriber here.. love checking out your vids mate
Thanks! That’s great to hear 🙂
Super tent!!👍
Wow! Heaven on a hilltop !
Fantastic view what a beautiful view to watch while you eat your breakfast and pack up ready for a new day 👍
It was stunning. Moments like this make it all worthwhile
Great video, thanks for sharing . are you planing to do a 11 modification modification video😉 like the Lanshan 2
😂 give me time, give me time….
😂👍
Gorgeous.
It was!
Well that’s made me smile, enjoy your breakfast 😊
Wow, you struck gold with that camp Charles. Stunning. 👍
Your parcel has arrived. See you Friday
Enjoy yourself in Keswick tomorrow Charles and have a safe night🏕️
Thanks Dave.
That's such a pretty view!
I’ve upgraded mine to 9.5mm poles and added a bespoke footprint from Lucy at Quintcraft. With some of your mods and some ideas taken from my Nortent it’s now a very capable roomy tent that I’d trust in poor weather. Great video 😊
Thanks. I’m interested to see how it performs in 4 season conditions. Especially with the large amount of mesh in the inner. I wonder if Lucy could knock up a solid inner, like the 4 season inner for the Lanshan
Where did you get the 9.5mm poles from, please supply a link if you can.
@@3goldfingercan’t seem to add a link but if you go on Google and type in stationthirteen tent poles you should find them
You can’t beat it with weather like that Charles. 👌
Looks great. Apparently your parcel will arrive tomorrow.
If I was around I would bro you the Guinness but on holiday with the Mrs in Bakewell.
Next time!
Thank you for listing the weight before/after I was curious about that. Any idea on the cost you've added with all the mods, like what is the all in price? I always try to see if it's justified to add all the extras or just get an xmid 2
It’s difficult to price up the mods as I used a lot of spare Dyneema etc that I had lying around. But I think you could do it all for £30, making the total cost well under £200. That’s still less than half the cost of the xmid… 😉
@@longsufferinghiker I just got my Xmid the other day, scored a sale on a 3FUL one for $119. Getting much better at pitching it thanks to you guys
I agree you need the bathtub lines to be out at an angle. It's funny, the official instruction say straight out at 90 degrees but the pictures on the site are like yours lol
Yes. They’ve actually changed the pictures on the website since my video was uploaded. Strange 😉
Useful review. Thank you.
Thanks 😁
Incredible work
Aw, thanks! ☺️
That catenary line idea is actually kinda brilliant! At >190cm height I almost wanted to go with the Lanshan 2 Pro to be on the save side but looked up mods for the L1P first - pretty much everyone goes with the obvious extra pole/stick route which defeats the "ultralight" aspect of the tent imo. This is the single most easy and lightweight mod to get extra room and stability! Thank you so much!
Aw, thanks!! I’m really happy to hear that you like the suggestion, and it means a lot to me to know that it might help you 🙂
I recognised those Roman walls from the thumbnail! My neck of the woods also. By all accounts the Cumbrian Way is book ended by underwhelming sections (although the middle of course is great!), so I would be inclined to go West Highland Way. But don't listen to us!
Well filmed and presented. I have a similar tent from another brand and made an inverted V tent pole. The top piece is made of plastic and has a short screw to hook the inner on. I have sewn magnets on the door retainer straps which is better than tying the toggles. Good work in setting the inner and outer separation as the designers have overlooked this.
I’m glad you liked the video. That’s a really interesting idea for the inverted V poles.
Pennine Way, I’m doing it May / june
That would be great but I only have a week, so it’s a bit too far!!
West highland! Now most of the midges have gone it will be lovely!
Fabulous glad you're back out can't wait for the videos
Great Lanshan modification ideas. Quick question, regarding the inner tent floppiness modification, did you run shock cord on all 4 corners ? Have you also changed the 2 main guy lines from 3 mm to 2 mm ? thanks for sharing the modification tips with us !
Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂 Yes, I did all 4 corners. I find that it is very useful when the ground is lumpy and I need to adjust each corner independently. I also now use 2mm dyneema for the guylines. It’s certainly strong enough. Just be sure to use line locks/cleats that suit the small diameter.
@ thanks for the quick reply, what diameter shock cord did you use for the 4 corners. I will order it after. I have received my Lanshan 2 yet and will follow most of your modifications .😉
Have a look at the video description; all the details of that modification are there 🙂
Welcome back! Sorry hope your wife is feeling better now. West highland way sounds amazing to me and gets my vote. Looks forward to the next video
