That was fantastic Charles and one of those trips you shall never forget, you had fantastic weather and such a great time. Thanks for sharing your adventure, I thoroughly enjoyed it. 🍻
Hi Charles - I really enjoyed your adventure and can relate first hand to quite a few of those views - particularly that last one off High Pike. I like your style: nice chap, goes walking without razzamataz, has nice time, the end. Really good. Thank you
I always love it when Charles puts out a new adventure. Cup of coffee, slice of cake and an hour of your ever brilliant musings. That chest pouch looks very handy, would you mind sharing what make/model it is please?
Thanks mate; that's really kind of you :-) I used to use an OMM chest pod, but I got fed up with it; there's only one pocket, and it's not waterproof, which caused me problems because I keep my phone in it. So I switched to this one: www.treadlitegear.co.uk/Hill-And-High-Street-Chest-Pack---Multi-Carry-Bag It's made of DCF and is pretty waterproof and hard wearing. Plus it has several pockets. I love it!
@@longsufferinghiker This trail is high on my list and I am desperate to do it. No midges this time of year either. Glad you are still sporting the Lanshan 2 - I just bought (additional) the 4 season inner for mine for the colder months. The Lakes are gorgeous in ALL seasons but the midges are an unpleasant fact in the warmer months. Might have to do the high route to avoid them.
Yes, the trusty Lanshan 2 did me proud. I was going to use my lanshan 1, but opted for the 2 with a 4 season inner because I was going to be spending long nights in the tent at that time of year. This high route was definitely well worth the effort in those conditions; the views and scenery were stunning!
Great video Charles! I'm all set for doing the Cumbria Way in May 2025 and was planning on doing the "normal" route, although having seen what the more mountainous route can offer, I think I'm going to do that route instead 👍😁
Thanks mate. The Mountains option on day 2 was well worth the extra effort. It was also less crowded 😉 but I would say keep your options open and choose the best route for the weather conditions. I went my own way after Swirl How and went via the Wrynose Pass to the end of Langdale, which saved time because I was short of daylight in November. Have a great time!!
It looks to me that you and I bought the same chest pack? The only drawback to it is that I use the second zipped area down from the top to hold my phone (it fits perfectly) but I have to be careful that I dont miss and put it in that area that has no bottom to it. I managed to do this twice, and luckily my phone fell on grass and not on tarmac. A great video, enjoyed it.
Yes, and it is still working most of the time. But I did find that deep valleys such as Langdale made it harder to get a satellite connection. So far there’s no sign of the tracking service that was promised
Hi Charles - thanks for sharing your experience on the Cumbria way - great video with lots of stunning views 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking the time to let me know

Nice to hear from you, Dave. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Charles thanks so much for bringing this trail to my attention. What a great time of Year to experience it as well. Phill
Thanks Phill. It's a great trail
Great video Ty. The unnamed 'lake' near Torver I believe is Throng Moss reservoir (disused) .

Thanks Matt; that’s really kind of you. Your nice comments really mean a lot to me!

Excellent Charles, you were so, so lucky with the weather. I have to say it is the first day that puts me off doing this route 👍
Starting at Coniston would be perfectly OK. And missing the last section into Carlisle, too
@longsufferinghiker Yes, I think that is a very good idea ☺️
Awesome, thank you!
You’re welcome ☺️

I totally agree; it’s very risky. So much that I’ve thought of finding a way to close the slot. So far I haven’t come up with a neat solution
It's a temperature inversion Charles. Clouds can not invert 😮
Ooops. I’ll try to remember that next time!
I fancy this walk next year, did you use the cicerone guide book?
Yes, I had it on Kindle on my phone. It was excellent, especially for navigation on the first day!
I noticed your still carrying the Motorola defy have they sorted out the problem with the contract etc….?
Yes, and it is still working most of the time. But I did find that deep valleys such as Langdale made it harder to get a satellite connection.

Its a cracking walk but as you say the signage leaves a lot to be desired, which is a shame really.
I’m glad that it’s not only me who thinks that!!
