The Japanese Countryside in Autumn is Pure Magic
มุมมอง 7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Autumn colors hit their peak in our neck of the woods in the Japanese countryside - so we decided to spend a brilliant day outdoors soaking up all the sights. Two of which were the beautiful Misogi Shrine and Otaki Shrine, which were surrounded by gorgeous red and yellow maple leaves. We appreciated an unreal view of Aimee's 2nd greatest love in life, Mt Fuji, and then topped it all off with a ...

Autumn in Japan's Scenic North - Hot Springs, Fall Colors & Hiking

Northern Japan (Tohoku) is a treasure trove of hidden gems so as the fall/autumn season rolled around, we rushed up north to meet the seasonal change and admire the beautiful outdoor spots Akita prefecture has to offer. Magical 3hr Hike in Japan's Northern Alps - Mt. Norikura Day Hike
มุมมอง 2.2K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Norikura is undoubtedly the BEST way to surpass the clouds, and hike up into the 3000m altitude threshold within Japan. The reason for it's popularity is because of the bus system that takes you straight to the top of the mountain range, costing 4000yen per person for a round trip. Once at the top, you can do a beginner-friendly 3hr return hike to the peak, and take in some incredible views spa...
Hiking Japan's Forgotten Pilgrimage Trail

Within a day trip of Tokyo lies Chichibu. Rich with scenic views and history, it has a number of temples - which together with those on the Saigoku and Bando pilgrimage routes - form one long trail across Japan. It was said that back in the pilgrimage peak of the early 1800s, somewhere between 20,000 - 30,000 pilgrims were recorded passing along the Chichibu trail in one day. Now an almost-forg...

I wanted to go do the nakasendo trail after seeing your video when I was in Japan last November but it was raining when I was there. Luckily i still managed to do the tateyama-kurobe alpine route going from Nagano to Toyama. When I was up there in marodo, I thought my eggs were going bad so I was panicking but it's just the volcano(i didnt know there's a volcano cause when I was up there, the snow was quite thick). It was amazing! Thank you for this video, hopefully I can go to japan again to Nike this mountain and do the nakasendo trail. I love central japan so much!

Akame (the Red Eye) in Mieken i(not too far from Nara and Iga Ueno - home of the ninja) s one of my favorite secret spots in Japan. It is a quiet, narrow valley that begins with a Salamander exhibit (as in very large salamanders) and continues up the valley in which there are 48 separate waterfalls. It is breathtaking any tme of year but my favorite time is autumn. Deep, dark greens, and brilliant autumn colors. It will take your breath away.

A tip for the Gujo Odori: The shops that sell geta (the wooden shoes) stay open during the dancing, so you can buy them there to dance AND some of them will hold your shoes for you while you dance so you can just have fun (just make sure to ask what time you need to get them and go back on time so that they don't close shop with your shoes).

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

You're absolutely welcome :) Yeah, I think unfortunately Japan has just gotten a bad rap for summertime travel because of people doing their standard travel route of Tokyo and Kyoto which usually involves a lot of walking around in the middle of the day. If that's what you do, you're sure to succumb to heat exertion. But if you retreat to a cool place in the middle of the day, maybe plan only 1 activity per day to avoid over exertion, use electric fans + sun umbrellas it can make a summertime trip totally possible! We hope you can make a trip happen :)

What would the best time for autumn foliage be for a combination of Countryside and city travel? We wont be doing high altitude hikes, I think Kurobe Gorge is the highest elevation we might visit, other than that stuff like Nakasendo Trail, Nara/Izu Peninsula, and if we have time Hiroshima/Miajima Island or even Kyushu. Thing is I'd rather have more green in the cities and enjoy a vibrant countryside rather than have dead trees on our countryside travels. Does End of Octrober to mid of November sound about right for a 3 week trip?

Hey there! So this is a pretty difficult topic to comment on. In the past couple of years the autumn color peak has been later than usual so it would be so hard to give any guarantees. Taking into consideration your altitude, locations and desired climate, it might be safer to lean towards mid->late November more so than late October & onwards.

Climbing the mountains of the Japanese Alps as if you were hiking is extremely dangerous. If you do not choose proper mountain climbing equipment and a mountain and course that is appropriate for your level, you will get lost.

The festival happens everywhere. My girlfriend is Japanese, in 2010 I was at the festival for Shinjuku. Didn't notice any other gaijin, and had a great time watching the dancing parade and the food stalls at the local park. It happens in every Japanese town, you just have to find out when.

Very true! I think the beauty of the Gujo Festival is how inviting it can be to participate. We've seen many dancing parades around Japan over the years, and even to this day it's continued to hold a special spot for us because of the combination of easy to pickup moves, easy to jump-in environment and amount of other domestic tourists joining in, but most importantly the long time-frame that it's running over. With it going over almost the entire span of summer, it's so easy to fit a visit into your travels plans. And for us, the festival is the cherry-on-top of all the other remarkable points we talked about that Gujo has to offer!

One hidden gem, which I'm hesitant to divulge, is the Tower Yokohama Kitanaka. It's a free observatory in the Minato-Mirai area of Yokohama. You can get really great views of Mount Fuji from there. NObody was there when we went. (Great channel, by the way).

Mount Asahidake is an oxymoron. Dake means mountain. It is just Asahidake. This video calls it Mount Asahi Mountain.

Yes we're aware of that 😊 A lot of the time place names in Japan don't follow one clear set of rules. Some websites call it Mt. Asahi while others call it Mt. Asahidake. We decided to go with the longer version in case it made it easier for anyone viewing to research the location.

I totally enjoyed this upload! Glad that you chose Gujo-Hachiman for your very fav spot. I am a Japanese expat living in eastern Canada. I grew up in Aichi, not far from Gifu. When I was 3 or 4 years old, I for the first time went to Gujo-Hachiman with my Dad and his colleagues. Now that my Dad is gone, this memory of Gujo-Hachiman is very special. As a matter of fact, I am re-discovering Japan through you channel. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing such a lovely memory of visiting Gujo with your Dad and his colleagues. These memories and travels are so precious, and we're absolutely thrilled that we can provide an outlet for you to enjoy Japan even when you're over there in (the beautiful) Canada! 🤗

I watched your other video when you give letter grades to your hikes 😂 and that led me here because I will be in Nagano in 3 weeks (Feb) and maybe I could hike here. Is it alright to be here on a winter day? Thank you very much.

Hi there! Thanks for watching our hiking tier list video and then coming and checking out this video! Unfortunately, this hike over in Hakuba is completely buried in snow right now. In fact, during the winter season this hiking place becomes a ski resort, that's how much snow there is 😅 For Nagano in February a lot of hikes turn into snow shoeing trails.
