Pumpkin Harvest and Trellis Review | Permaculture Garden

- One of my favourite harvests for the year is the pumpkin harvest and it's that time again!! This season I've grown a few different varieties on different homemade trellis structures.
Before the harvest we take a look at the varieties of pumpkin in the garden and also at how the well the trellises have performed in their pumpkin growing role.
Make sure you hang in until the end to see the weight of the biggest pumpkin that I've ever grown!!

congratulations on a good harvest, 2024 is already more colorful than the 2023 harvest. I am very impressed with the red pumpkins, they have a different shape than the other types ☺️
Yep I really upped the colours this season without making a conscious effort to do so. Will maybe give more thought to the varieties for next year to ensure ongoing beautiful harvests!!

Linda, WOW! What a beautiful harvest. I especially love the vibrant colors of the Turk's Turban. I would enjoy seeing you prepare the pumpkins, particularly any savory recipes you have. Today I put my dill seedlings and winter squash seedlings outside to begin hardening off. As you put your garden to bed, I am preparing to get mine going.

A fun treasure hunt then look at that gorgeous, colourful pile. I am determined that next season, I'm planting many more pumpkins everywhere. I want my own huge pile of pumpkins . That one was a monster! I guessed 10.5kg. I wonder if you'll have plenty of pumpkin recipes coming up. Lol. Thanks for sharing lovely ❤🧡💛💚
Planting a heap of different pumpkins just to ensure a pile in Autumn is a win! So much joy from this pile haha!!

They are certainly heaps of fun to grow - I love the early season checking what pumpkins have started, watching as they grow bigger, then the harvest is always a surprise with some hiding from view and when they are all piled up it's amazing to see what the garden has produced - a definite winner!!

So jealous over here where we only had a single summer night that I didn't need my blankets! I have a few pepita that are still green, but i think should be yellow when ripe, so don't know whether they will make it now that there have been so many spiteful frosts. Also some teeny red kuri. I'll be buying my supply of pumpkins from a farmer living near the coast where the weather is so much warmer.
What a shame to have the frosts so early. Yep I'd be snapping up some of those pumpkins before they are all gone!

It could have been worse - at least one pumpkin will make a tasty soup, lovely roasted pumpkin, pumpkin scones ... or ??? - I suppose the challenge is to work out what delicious recipe to make with it - enjoy!!!

Wow pumpkins everywhere.I got none this year and a friend was the same. Our weather was really hot and I have to sort my rainwater as our council have put chlorine in the mains water and I'm sure it's made a negative difference with my plants. Next year onward and upward =-) Take care.
Oh that’s a shame! You’ll have to put a filter on your tap - the chlorine can affect the soil microbiology!! Better luck next year 🤞🤞
If you run your water into a drum or tank and leave it for a few hours, the chlorine will all evaporate. Then you can either have a hose running from the bottom of the drum, or use a watering can. I do this with my gravity fed water from a dam, because the water pressure is so low from a hose.
Wow, what a beautiful harvest! Such a variety, it's such a nice feeling to have a good stockpile for meals and to share with others and our ducks/chickens : ). I also wanted to say thank you for all the interesting information about seed saving in your last video, that was really good, I hadn't thought about that with growing different varieties of pumpkins, zucchini and cucumbers. Always look forward to your video's, hope you've had a beautiful Easter weekend.

@@huttonsvalleypermaculture I have just purchased the Seed Savers Handbook, I've been trying for the last couple of years to put more time and effort into saving seed. For some reason, I never put a lot of thought into the cross pollination aspect. I'm very grateful for the fact that you not only inspire but get me thinking, so good!! You come across so welcoming and natural in your video's, it's like walking through the garden with a friend ☕🍊

I use large knife and bang it with a rubber mallet. Usually cuts thru quite easily!
