Port of Brisbane-catching livies for a big jewie.
มุมมอง 8Kปีที่แล้ว
Just a video on how i catch livies around the Port of Brisbane. Also got my PB Jewfish. Ive watched a stack of videos about casting nets over the years, but in my opinion, this Ryan Moody one is definitely my favourite-no net over the arm, no net in teeth, just bundle and pass like a football. Started off the morning on the soft plastics till the tuna moved in. Tangled a couple of rods with wind knots, leaving me with only the bream rod to finish off the morning.

Port of Brisbane Jewfish November Sessions

An early start to fish around the Port of Brisbane. There have been a few Jewfish around lately, on the day i saw at least another 3 caught by other boats as well. The previous week i picked up two on one of my lighter outfits (with my trusty little switchblade) and I’ve included that footage as well. Gear specs: 2500 daiwa freams, 8lb J braid, TD Black wild weasel rod 4500 penn slammer IV, 34l...

Brisbane River Jewfish catch and FAIL!

With so many youtubers doing catch and cook, i figured its time for a catch and FAIL! Big thanks to Nauti Jade and The Nauti Pleasures crew for sending a care package of choice getup. Check out Nauti Jade channel for some quality fishing content in the Botany Bay area and beyond. Some big stuff to come as they are just getting off the ground. All up i tallied the loss at $1700. Awesome Brissy River Kayak Fishing Sesh-GTs and more!
มุมมอง 3573 ปีที่แล้ว
Set a PB for most fish in a single sesh getting down in the brown. After 2hours of no hits, pelicans and seagulls were chasing baitfish over the other side. So I headed over and caught all these fish in the space of 1 hour. Most were caught on a pink 3 inch zman minnowz, but when they’re that thick they will probably hit anything. Got a few on a 20g nomad jig too. Favourite rod for most fish on...

Can you do a vid of what fish look like on your sounder? Just starting out and finding it hard to know what the heck I am looking at lol
@@gregeberhardt1711 what sort of sounder do you have? I have some footage to put up soon.
Where and how do you get your bait? Awesome vid
@@gregeberhardt1711 i use a 10ft castnet around the shallow muddy mangrove edges. Haven’t been a lot around the port lately.
Thanks for showing the bait.....its the one of the two things i am working on ...bait and weight (ie sinker size)...covered both
Looks like fun! Do u know if there around all year? How did u find the side view on the Garmin Striker? Cheers
@@mavenfpv7843 they seem to be not to far from bait schools, so sometimes they are there and some times they are not. I have caught them between the gateway bridge all the way into the city but oddly enough ive never caught one around the port. I also have noticed they haven’t been around as much in the river since the 2022 floods. The striker is a great little unit for the money. The sideview isn’t anywhere near as crisp as the Echomap ultra 105sv i have on the boat, but for a kayak its pretty good. You still get good images for structure and fish do show up.
Please post more videos of you live baiting i absolutely love them ❤
@@Koby_Naysmith_ i plan on it! I’ve been experimenting a bit around the city reaches with some mixed success. I plan on making a video once it all comes together.
Thx mate. Great sharing.
Hey been watching your videos, nice work. Do u fish that pylon often ? I go past if often and think “probs worth a fish” but I never fish it……
I’ve probs caught about 8 jew there of varying sizes and a couple snapper in the 60s over the past 24 months. It fishes better with minimal run as the current can rip through there. Baitfish like herring schools also show up on the sounder. If they aren’t around it get pretty quiet. I think the combination of eddies, a good dropoff into the channel, is a good mix. When i caught the jewie in the video, there was also a bit of boat traffic around.
BACK again Mate, the cast net you are using is it a Top pocket with a bottom pocket as well ?? a bit hard to see . Cheers Chris
Its a 10ft drawstring. So no there are no pockets.
HI Spud, thank you for return on the 1/4oz s/lock, i thought a 1/4 would have been a bit light in that current mate, do you have a ROD you prefer down there, as far as snapper , jew go, OK Champ, PS i see the # 10 ball ,you are using with your live bait to hold bottom ,or hit bottom and a meter. OK Cheers Chris
PS. WHAT SIZE J/HEAD WERE YOU USING MATE ??
1/4 oz snakelock+ 1/8 worm hook
HEY Spud, love your style mate try what you feel , mate what is a Silver belly????? Cheers Chris.
*silver biddy. I often get them as bycatch in the cast net. They look like a small bream but have a mouth like a whiting.
@@potatoesGDITB OK Mate thank's i was looking for a ( new) SECRET BAIT, thank God not another one.
PS, I HAVE BEEN using Power pro Braid mate and it's been good to me, in 20.lb what are you using on your PORT FISH NOW ? JEW ,THREADIES. SNAP'S.
Dead right mate, when chasing prawns you don't to be wet the whole time, any fishing this weekend mate ??
Nah although last weekend, same technique, got a couple of school jew. Even the smaller ones will hit 18cm mullet
Hi again Spud, you are dead right years ago i saw the RYAN MOODY castnet throw and its my go to cast, it's that time again live bait big fish. Cheers Chris
There are probably techniques that get a better circle but few that will keep you dry like the ryan moody way.
Hey mate, this was a good video, thanks for posting it up. Something different that I hadn't thought of trying. I'll definitely be giving it a go!
Since this vid I’ve tried herring and mullet. Hardyheads were the best
Awesome 😎
Cheers fella. I'll these spots a go.
I used to use loom bands to hold bait on the hooks
Yeah kids have heaps of them. I think they’re great for crabs.
Good video champ. Where do you get your hardy heads from? I can't get them anywhere I know.
They seem to like the bay shoreline wherever it’s blowing offshore, ive had good success at wynnum foreshore, manly harbour, and near wello point jetty. Even seen a few kicking around the port. Spotlight at high tide is the go
I have seen them in their 1000's by some of the big container ships@@potatoesGDITB
Great Video Potatoes - love the technique you descibed and love your commentary on the fly ! Keep them coming!
Cheers russell will do
Just watched the Vid , looks very promising the jig head with bait technique. Great vid to learn off for sure !
Try it with those garfish you keep getting.
I definitely like that approach. Was your bait finding bottom in the feed or lifting in the current.
It found the bottom had 3/8 ounce of leas total. I think each time i slapped the line it hopped off the bottom and got pushed down in the current a little further
@@potatoesGDITB Thanks mate got to give it a try.
Hey mate Thanks for the vid 🤜🏼🤛🏼 What flavour scent do you use please?
I was using procure shrimp but i find snapper also really like plain S factor as well.
I was cast netting near the bridge at fishermans island today and a metre plus flathead broke the surface and took off it was insane. Got busted off using livies but got some big muddies in the pots
I’ve upped my live bait leaders from 30 to 50lb. What did you get busted by? There’s always a few bullies around too.
A great session. I really enjoyed the video. I’ve only ever fished over near the wharf so will have to be more adventurous. What weight line were you using?
I was using 20lb+ braid and 30lb leader. The week or so before i was experimenting using 8lb line/12lb leader and got busted off twice. I should have known better as i was recently dusted in the rocks on 20lb leader. The snapper there know how to find a sharp rock.
What a great session and loved the technique 👍
I think its a technique worth experimenting with. I’m going to try and throw different things into the vids to keep it interesting, and that way it also forces me to try new things rather than just throwing around ol’reliables.
Good fishn man
Cheers Jackomac
That drift technique made a bit of sense with that current raging just let the prawns flutter down good vid bro
Cheers bro. I also didn’t film the castnetting so not to upset the nsw viewers
Plenty of snaps being caught out there lately..I went Friday and got couple at 45cm on tide change but current is too crazy in the yak haha
Yeah thats about as far as i use to get into the port on a yak. Although i saw a couple of yaks towards the end of fishermen island. They were so close to the pylons port security couldn’t see them😂
GREAT
Nice work mate! What size sinkers would you recommend for fishing the port? Been chasing thready for a while with no luck. Awesome tips too, you know your stuff.
Hey mate, i use just enough to keep my baits lol down 1m off the bottom. In low current or turn of the tide, i use a ball sinker about the size of a 5c coin. When it picks up, a 10c coin and so on. If i need any bigger than that, it might be too much current and i look for locations where there are eddies around structure (markers, docked ships, jetties, etc.) that slow/break up the current a bit.
Brilliant
Legend mate. One day I'll land a fish worthy of telling my mates. Cheers for the tips
No worries mate keep at it.
Great stuff mate! If u ever want a decky for a sesh let me know haha
Will do. There is a serious lack of people willing to get up at 2am to chase threadys near a sewerage treatment plant with me. This country is going soft.
Haha!
👍👍👍
Great session brutha , can’t wait get up there n get one of thise golden Beasts!!! Keep some for me
Will do bro. 😎
Great catch Potatoes 🥔….ill be up for a threadie one day !
Nice work
I found herring is the best for threadies
Absolute wankers jet skiers. Its my Son and I always in our little boat when in Brissy River and they just do not give a fuck about anyone else on the water. Ive been around boats all my life and from a very young age, were taught water safety. Its a very dangerous place on boats in water and I was always told to think about the other man before any action I do on a boat and that includes other boaties. 6 knots around moored or anchored boats is for a reason. People get fucking hurt. Its not just jet skiers either. There are plenty of dickheads on boats too although it seems to be the majority of jett skiers, not just a few.
Awesome such a beautiful fish
Love waking up and the water looks like that 😊
the sound quality is so shit and fuzzy i can't understand what you are saying
Terrific video mate. Whats that fish there? We have the same specie here on the other side of the world and use same setup for it. As for mullets, if you want them gather in one stop, throw some pieces of bread on the water. They usually flock to it and fight over it. Cheers
Its a jewfish, or the scientific name is Argyrosomus japonicus. Yeah mullet around here aren’t super keen on bread, and i get the impression they feed on silt off the bottom. Down south my mate catches a different mullet for bait on bread all the time though.
Great fishing video bro…well thought out too….and ur plan of execution was spot on Top job 🔥💯 🎣 Im subscribing 🔥
Great video mate! I’ve been seeing a few of your vids pop up lately and always enjoy them/learn something. I just subscribed, keep up the great work 🙌🎣
Cheers will. I see quite a few of yours popping in the feed as well i’ll have to rewatch before hitting up some offshore snapper action!
Nice vid mate. What kind of tinny have you got? Love your setup
Hey mate its an Anglapro Chaser 454 pro with a yamaha 60.
Thank's Mate for heads up good luck, waiting for your next venture. Cheers Chris
Nice fish , well done.
Always out of breath lol
Yeah I’m not exactly at prime fitness atm lol. Gotta move that mic more than 6ft from my nostrils i reckon
