    my heart skips beats and i lose my breath at the scenery in New England.
    i try telling people about the riding, and they don't believe me because there are no words to describe it.
    an all-day, choose-your-own roller coaster route through farmland and forest.
    and that doesn't even begin to describe it.
    i tell them, "all you have to bring is 1 small water bottle, and you fill up at every other small town, every 15 miles."
    your videos are so beautiful it almost makes me cry

      I feel the same way every time we ride. The routes here are unparalleled to anywhere else in the world. It really is a special place. We're grateful for every moment living here. I always say that wherever you are in New England it feels like home. Hard to describe to anyone that hasn't been here. The beauty is different. It's intimate and serene. The people are tough but compassionate and there's so much variety in the landscapes. While riding the views change almost every mile instead of one view for hours of pedaling. Sounds like you need to come back and visit soon my friend.

    We're here in St. Johnsbury right now, but I biked the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail for 40 miles. Awesome. And we played those same instruments on the river in Littleton! This region was seriously damaged when Hurricane Beryl came through last week. Some places will be a year before recovery. I was riding on a decent class 4 road and then it degraded to a point I wouldn't even take my Jeep on it... you never know! I'd pick Vermont over NH and ME for some reason, and I lived in New England for almost 30 years. Thanks and be safe!

      Vermont is amazing, my mom lives in southern VT so it's home too. The state just has a great overall vibe and has their outdoor recreation really dialed in. Yeah the flooding last year and this year have been crazy but New England still remains my favorite place to be. The Lamoille took on a lot of damage too. I know the feeling of blindly 4x4ing on class 4 roads and getting the tacoma in some precarious situations ha ha. Thanks for commenting.

    I cant say how beautiful enough new hamshire and vermont are. I took a on line quiz one time, and i took it 5 times ,and every time VERMONT came back as the state i should live at!! I worked the famous sturgis motor cycle ralley in sturgis sd for 10 years, and there were all kind of folks talking about this new hamshire bike ralley up there. I dont know the name of it , but it is a very big ralley there.

      Vermont has an idyllic way of life. Time moves a bit slower yet the mindsets of people there are progressive and forward thinking. It's a perfect balance they achieve. Your personal morals and interests must align with that way of life for the test to suggest that. The bike rally you are referring to is Laconia Bike Week which was last week. It's quite large. I've been to Sturgis passing through when I travelled in a past career. That's also a beautiful part of the country.

    These are the roads I call home. I highly recommend the Muddy Onion as an event not to miss. It kicks off the gravel season in Vermont, 2nd to last weekend in April. Most of the destruction from the flooding in July has been repaired at this point. Fall riding isn't too bad either!

    • @ThatMountainMoment

      The Muddy Onion is a great gravel ride. But anyone unfamiliar with New England weather before mid- May, should think twice. On the right day, you will be ecstatic with your ride. But be prepared for any or all of these, as well: temps in the 40’s,30’s, maybe even 20’s. Cold breeze, up to arctic blast. Rain,cold rain, sleet, snow, hail, or combination of all. Mud, gloppy mud, caked mud, puddles, ponds, streams, ice (yes, all of these can be found ON the “roads”). But like I said- you might just get a beautiful day.
      Nice video, guys.

      It's a bikepacking haven for sure. Check out the VTXL route which we plan on doing at some point this season(it's a gravel based route from the northeast corner to the southwest corner of VT) and they are almost done building the new Velomont hut to hut bikepacking route which features 42 huts linked together by all the states mtb trails and it goes from one end of the state to another. Going to be awesome! I'd like to get a small group for VTXL once I figure out the dates. Hope you've been well.

      @@ThatMountainMomentthe hut to hut route looks awesome! I have heard of the VTXL and it looks like a blast. I hope I am not being to forward but I would love to join your group if you wouldn't mind having me along for the ride. I am not doing the GDMBR this summer, I have made some great progress with my mental health and getting my life together and as a result there are things I need to take care of going forward so putting the GDMBR till next summer makes sense.
      Let me know what you think. Take good care my friends!

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does. We joke that anywhere in NH and especially VT you are guaranteed 100ft of gain+ per mile. No way around it lol, but that's also why I love riding here. It'll get the legs in shape real quick ha ha.

    Is there a directory of Class 4 roads for bike riding?

    • @ThatMountainMoment

      I believe the Vermont DOT has a directory. I use ride with GPS and have learned how to decifer using different map style choices in the App. I'm entertaining the idea of doing a route building tutorial video.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is my home region mark so it's local for us. Vermont suffered massive catastrophic flooding recently so I'm not sure what's available. The state Capitol, Montpelier we started and ended in was under 6ft of water so I don't believe it's possible to stay there currently. Southern vermint which has incredible riding did not have as much devastation. Look at the towns of Wilmington, Dover, Newfane, and that area. My family lives there and they say it's okay. Very very good gravel riding in that area and has that postcard worthy small town feel. I can send you a bunch of routes in that area if you end up there. Or come to New Hampshire in the White Mountain Region where we are just over the border from Vermont. Either way there is no disappointment in the scenery, riding, and things to do.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The way to keep things flat-er is to incorporate a rail trail. What part of Vermont are you going to and how long of a route are you thinking. I can easily send you routes from any part of the state.

    Is that the Muddy Onion short loop? About 22 miles, 1,800 ft climbing?

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You got it Tom! Great loop. We slightly strayed from it with a couple side bars just to grab a few nice camera shots. I'll put the route link in the description.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention that my bike computer read that it was 2144ft of gain as opposed to the 1800ft on ride with GPS. I find that ride with GPS varies from my Wahoo Element Roam in that way. Not sure which is right but just giving a heads up.

    • @tombiggi1024
      @tombiggi1024 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThatMountainMoment bike computers (GPS units like Garmin, Wahoo) use internal barometric sensors for altitude. Those sensors can vary based on humidity and temperature. Planned routes on mapping systems like RWGPS used to have issues with tunnel and roads that did not account for those until recent years. However they also do not automatically update themselves ... meaning it is up to the end user to edit the original route if even by retracing the route to get altitude profile correct or use the flatten section option.

    • @ThatMountainMoment
      @ThatMountainMoment  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that's good info. I remember when I worked in motorsports we had to make calculations for what we refered to as Corrected Altitude in order to make the race car run optimally depending on where we were in the country. It would use those factors and a couple others but I never realized that the bike computers used a similar set of inputs or could even sense that. That's very interesting and makes a lot more sense now. How did you know that? It's just not something that is mentioned much or at least to my knowledge. Thanks!
