Kitfox 4 flying, fun with fishermen
มุมมอง 36710 หลายเดือนก่อน
Landed on a back woods lake with a couple guys ice fishing, and had a little fun. We all got a good laugh out of it, they had their fishing licenses in their hands as they were walking up. This was back in early February before all the snow melted.

Just a short flight I did yesterday from my home strip up here in northern Mn. Nothing special really, low ceilings. Funny thing, it seemed way bumpier when I was up there then the video indicates. Haven't put anything up in quite a while, so I guess I was due.

Just the last part of an evening flight I did yesterday. Nothing special beyond getting a chance to fly the Kitfox again. Pretty good wind from the north up higher, that's why I did the 360 to the right after the takeoff. If you look to the left on the edge of the field right after I touch down on the first landing, you see a deer exiting the field. A small doe was laying down right on the edge...

Here is a video of an airplane I sold about 12 years ago. Sure was a fun airplane, but I got a bigger and better model, so it was sold. This was the fastest climbing plane I've ever had I think, would get to 500' faster than my 912 powered Kitfox 4. It was real light and had 65 hp so that explains it. Anyway, I'm putting this up for the current owner, he has it up for sale and I'm helping him o...

Avid Flyer MK IV trailer load and unload demonstration
มุมมอง 12K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Here I am loading the Avid Flyer on the trailer, and unloading it as well. Trying to demonstrate how easy it is to be able to bring your airplane to the airport, and bring it back home again and store it in the garage till your next flight. No more high hangar rent that way. Anyway, this plane is for sale for $27,500 including the trailer. I should be fairly easy to contact. Enjoy, Jim Chuk

Here is my Avid, I rebuilt it completely in 2017, flown about 130 hrs since then. Total time is 610, and I've flown all except about 25 hrs of them. I said the white color was Daytona white, it's actually Juneau white. I widened the fuselage by 3" when I rebuilt it, so it's now 42 1/2" wide at the top back of the seat. You don't have to like your passenger quite so much then.

      I had the Avid up for sale at the time. So I suppose it was somewhat a demonstration video of how it flew. I'm reminded of something my mother used to tell me. It was: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

    Why on earth would you pull it backwards and put unnatural stress/strain on tail feathers?

    • @jimchuk8511
      @jimchuk8511 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is how they were designed. Avid and Kitfox factories supplied a hitch that attached to the back of the plane so it could be towed on the road on it's own wheels. And with gust locks on the tailfeathers it's not a problem. I've pulled a half dozen Avids and Kitfoxes like this. One for 1500 miles with no issues.

    • @jimchuk8511

      Avid and Kitfox made hitches that allowed you to tow the plane on it's own wheels. However it was meant for short distances. My Avid went on a 600 mile trip the day I sold it. No way you would want to pull it on the hitch that far. Not to mention, the cops say where are the tail lights on that "trailer", no DOT tires, and on and on.

    • @jimchuk8511
      @jimchuk8511 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Avid will fly much better hands off than the Kitfox. If you don't fly the kitfox all the time, it will either start to climb or descend, roll right or left fairly soon. Not aggressively veering of course, but gradually. The Avid would fly for miles straight and level if you got it trimmed out. Avid is lighter on the controls, but for some reason, the Kitfox feels better in bumpier air. In smooth air, the Avid is probably more fun. Performance with the Kitfox with 912 80 HP is better though than the 80 HP Jabiru.

      @jimchuk8511 ปีที่แล้ว

      I responded back to you on one of your videos. Happy to help. The Avid is a fun to fly airplane, very light on the controls. Most pilots who have flown it with me tend to overcontrol because they are used to using more control input to make the plane do what they want. Airplane and cheap probably shouldn't be in the same sentence or paragraph, but at a 4 gallon per hr fuel burn, it doesn't hurt that bad on that account. Being able to fold the wings and trailer it home from the airport to store in your garage can reduce costs quite a bit as well. A friend of mine used to do that every time he flew.

  • @hausding

    I didn't see any configuration or mechanics for securing the horizontal stab or rudder from wind forces and deflection......maybe some pool noodles encasing PVC tubing would work just fine to trap both in a pincer type clamping action. Plus the noodles make great trailing edge protectors anywhere needed: flaperons, ailerons, or even wing edges, especially when folded for transport. Just saying.....

    Thank you sir for the fly along,,great fun,much appreciated. Question,, does landing onto the snowi in these light conditions mess with your depth perception like landing on water does? Nice job on the touch downs by the way,,Bush pilot quality!!

      Cloudy conditions and low light make it real hard to see how high you are in unbroken snow. Sunlight make shadows and that helps a lot to see where the snow actually is. With poor light, if you are landing on a frozen lake, if you land close to shore, you can usually get clues from the brush on shore and such to see how high you are. Actually, it's kind of funny that you mention depth perception, I only have one eye, but there are ways to work around that. Thanks for the kind words.

      I've taken a deposit on the plane, so I would say it's gone. Thanks for your interest though.
