    The Avid Flyer MK.IV is a beautiful aircraft. I am convinced of suitable home construction. Is it possible to buy plans for this plane?

      Avid was only sold as a kit. You can find them occasionally on barnstormers and other aircraft sites. AvidFoxFlyer forum is a good place to search as well.

    Great trailer well thought out! So you can pull this at highway speeds? Thx for sharing this video, R

      Yes, it pulled real nice. It went to Iowa a month ago, and the new owner is loving it.

    Why on earth would you pull it backwards and put unnatural stress/strain on tail feathers?

    • @jimchuk8511
      @jimchuk8511  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is how they were designed. Avid and Kitfox factories supplied a hitch that attached to the back of the plane so it could be towed on the road on it's own wheels. And with gust locks on the tailfeathers it's not a problem. I've pulled a half dozen Avids and Kitfoxes like this. One for 1500 miles with no issues.

    Jim what was your useable load with the Jabiru 2200 on Avid MK 4?

    Did you build the trailer or is there plans?

      It started out as a boat trailer that I rebuilt to be wider and set up for the plane

    Why not tow it on its own wheels?

    • @jimchuk8511
      @jimchuk8511  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Avid and Kitfox made hitches that allowed you to tow the plane on it's own wheels. However it was meant for short distances. My Avid went on a 600 mile trip the day I sold it. No way you would want to pull it on the hitch that far. Not to mention, the cops say where are the tail lights on that "trailer", no DOT tires, and on and on.

    I didn't see any configuration or mechanics for securing the horizontal stab or rudder from wind forces and deflection......maybe some pool noodles encasing PVC tubing would work just fine to trap both in a pincer type clamping action. Plus the noodles make great trailing edge protectors anywhere needed: flaperons, ailerons, or even wing edges, especially when folded for transport. Just saying.....

      I discuss the gust locks starting at the 3.59 minute mark. You are right that I don't demonstrate them, but explain what they are and why they are needed.
