Wonderful video, Clare! I’m planning to hike Rinjani next month. Initially, I was a little bit hesitant to do this trip ALONE, but after watching your video, I’m feeling more confident. I just need to get back into shape this time. lol

We did this 2 days/1 night trip in '94. There were no check ups, no tents, luxury and stuff. You would sleep on the wooden planks of a shelter. Only some small groups of tourists including girls with a guide were there. Nobody was crying or really complaining. We experienced it only as a spicy climb. The most uncomfortable was the seemingly never ending descend.

I did it too, december 5th 2023. Torture ! Really ! I was not prepared and I tought it would be easy ! I have to admit that I cried too during the last part. I felt so alone with the elements and was so tired. I prayed all my dead relatives and God so they would help me to finish it ! At 48, I was the oldest in my team so they waited for me about 15 minutes on the summit until I made it too. I will never forget that experience. Amazing view. And I have a lot of respect and admiration for the guides and porters who climb back and forth, twice a week, with 50 pounds of material and food on the shoulders, in sandals ! They are amazing. Take care and thanks for the nice memories. You look like a very nice person.
