Don't Throw Out Your Fabric Scraps! Make a Wrist Pincushion!
Another addition to the 'Don't Throw Out Your Scraps' series in which I show you how I use my scrap fabric (and yarn, batting, elastic, etc.) to create beautiful, useful handmade objects.
I love sewing these small projects so I can put to use all of my plant dyed fabric and use up scraps I have in the sewing studio. It's just another way I can reduce my waste.
Hope you give it a try, let me know if you do!

Colorful Sock Mending: How To Fix A Big Hole
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm a leftie so it took me some time to figure it out, but your video helped a lot! One question remains: What do I do with the "tails", just cut them?
This is so helpful thank you... Did you do the 1899 numbers in this method too?
Thank you for sharing this wonderful tutorial ❤️
The technique is nicely demonstrated.
Thank you for this cozy reminder of using simple, recyclable materials for fall/winter decorations! 🎄
Im so excited i wish November would hurry
Wow incredible. Thank you for sharing because now living in the countryside, I have fallen in love with nature and want this holiday season to be special in a way. Blessings to your family.
excellent, thx!
Hi there. Your video just popped up in my TH-cam suggestions. This is exactly what I would love, love, love to watch. I absolutely agree with mending clothes and I’ve been doing it for decades. Your wonderful way of stitching is like the Japanese art of mending and it’s so fantastic. Thank you. However, because of a neurological condition, I am not able to listen to the human voice with any music overlaid. And this music was so loud, I started feeling dizzy and nauseous. 😢 I’m devastated because if there was no music on your videos, I would subscribe and watch all of them! You have the perfect voice for me to listen to - it’s gentle, calm and quiet. You’re a great teacher, your work is neat and fun, and I’m so sad I can’t watch any more. Please could I beg you to make videos with no music, especially dance type music with drum beats. Loads of people don’t like music with everything; and all adverts, dramas, documentaries etc. come, nowadays with really loud music that gets turned on and off. People will say mute your device, but then I miss the teaching and great advice. Also, I am partially disabled and live alone - hearing the human voice is wonderful and therapeutic when you’re lonely! Bless you ❤
Great video! Thank you!
Great work and many thanks for that but respectfully, very annoying background music
Very helpful video❤❤
Bluery as fuck
yay perfect for some knit socks i decided to mend rather than recycle . thanks!
i am learning how to needle turn and hand applique. My first one was ok. But after watching your video I tried a sample using your instructions. It turned out beautiful. I am so thrilled. I am going to redo my first one using your instructions. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
You can draw over them with permanent ( alcohol based) markers also because those type of markers don't wash out or bleed
Thank you very much. A joy to watch and listen!❤
7:21 haha that was well said "Pay attention to your tension"!
Unbelievably beautiful 😍❤️
Haha, walnuts don’t have pits, they are the walnuts!
Great job with your video!! I sew everything but I have no knitting experience. Now I can mend my favorite sweater dress that I've been saving for years. You also explained how to create designs within a sweater. I bought the perfect blush color of Juicy Couture yarn that I wanted to use for a beautiful baby blanket or outfit. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.💞
Guy here. When I was a kid in the 70's I remember how my grandmamma use to darn my socks. I was always so amazed. When I was six years old my next door neighbour she was twelve and she taught me to knit back then. (Just a little.) Though I lost that ability soon after. I have a few pairs of socks that need some tender loving care. I just need to find out how to throw this laziness into the garbage, so I do not need to purchase more socks hehe. Wonderful instructional video. I know it is not that difficult, it just needs a bit of time and some patience.
❤
Horrible loud background music.
OMG, the first video I've seen that explained how to take to take care of the tails.
Great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
This is the best needle tutorial I've found on TH-cam (and I've watched a ton of them!). I'm an experienced beginner now, and here's what I've learned: 1). She's absolutely right: trim to an 1/8 of an inch. Other tutorials have said 1/4" , but any more than an 1/8 makes curves too hard to turn under. Take your time trimming. Good prep = better results 2). Use a size 11 needle (milliner's needle!). I've bought and tried many different sized needles. You definitely want something thin and easy to push and pull! I'm currently using Bohn 11s but have John James Milliners Straw Needles (11) coming from Amazon. My man fingers could use something a little longer. 3). My thread of choice is YLI silk thread (200 meters per spool). Yes, it's more expensive than regular thread, but it is strong and thin! It hides itself easily! I haven't had any problems with knotting, and I cut my initial thread at about 16-18 inches. 4). I thought snipping to the line on curves was insane, but thrust me, when doing inner curves, it makes turning on your drawn line so much easier. If you don't snip to the line on an inner curve, the fabric won't turn on the line. 5). Baste your applique patch rather than pin it. Yes, it take more time, but thread gets caught in pins very easily. I am so glad I basted!! 6). Unless your an eagle, by a pair of readers. I'm using a 4x pair! 7). Be patient with yourself. Get over the idea of doing something quickly and practice mindfulness (being present to the moment). Needle turning is not something that can be rushed. It's why we work by hand anyway, right? 8). Do a sample piece before you try needle turning your actual project. It's worth the time to get the feel of the process. 9). Happiness is a needle turn curve on your actual line!!!! It's almost better than ice cream! Thanks for your tutorial. It gave me the clearest idea of how to proceed!
This video RULES!!!!!!!
For those of you using the same colour thread and feeling blind! I just found a hack! Put the sweater behind a light source and you can see ALL the HOLES you need to go through!
That's so clever. Thank you. I don't have the patience for sewing but I'm full of admiration for those who do.
Amazingly clear lesson!!!
Such an incredibly helpful applique tutorial! Thanks.
I really needed some mending inspiration and this ticks the box ❤
Such a talent. Incredibly skilled and beautifully finished 😍
This tutorial is just amazing! I think using some quick basting stitches could be a good alternative for the big pins in the middle. Your thread doesn't get caught and you can't accidentally prick yourself no matter how you hold/turn your work.
What good 🎉and systematic work. Much appreciated.
Thank you very much for this this is helping me improve my knitting I've been knitting for over 35 years and I found this is the best carry on that I can find I make hats for the the cancer kids and I make hats for the homeless I make about 100 hats for cancer kids and 100 hats every year for the homeless our church when it's raining real hard cold our church let them sleep there they can take showers can we feed them call them. I just love this it make change color and weave in as you go. Thanks alot for share this with us all
I love your video's except for the annoying background music...which repeats over and over again 🤔
❤❤❤❤
Congratulations on your beautiful creations. You are very good and you explain perfectly! Everything. I have a question...what kind of fabric do you use? Linen, cotton, canvas or what else?
Oh, thank you so much! I am using my plant dyed linen. ☺️
Fabulous! Thanks!
How do you avoid scratching the wood table when you insert the pins?
Awesome tutorial thank you ❤
Lmao, discovered this after spending 84 YEARS mending a large hole in a sock with thread that is WAAAAY too thin and short, so I've got about a million loose ends to deal with 😅🤣🤣🤣. Gonna try your method next time for sure!!
Best demonstration ever! ❤
Hi. I hope you see this comment on your old video. I'm wondering why you don't just weave from one side to the other. Is it just so it's interesting to do or does it serve a purpose in the actual darning? I've been darning my socks for many years, since the first ones I knitted first started getting holes. I've never done it your way but I'm open to education if it makes a better mend. And if it's just to keep it interesting, that's a good reason too! Thanks!
I just finished my first repair on a sock I knit a few years ago. It feels great under my foot. Thank you for the great explanation. I used my lemon press. I might try a light bulb next time.
This makes my head hurt.
Your video was really helpful with the curves. I want to add applique to a denim jacket. Do you think this type of applique would hold up well? Also, I was considering adding batting behind my applique to add some dimension. Is this possible? Haven't seen any videos talk about it.
Yes thank you. I just noticed this ‘quarter’ in store. Blessings.
