    There are no knots in traditional sashiko embroidery. Stitch back to the start of the pattern and then follow those stitches to lock the beginning and end with friction

      That is correct. There are no knots in traditional sashiko. This mending tutorial is 'inspired by' sashiko stitching as it mentions in the description, but is not the same.
