It is late october. My back yard is littered with husks under the black walnut tree. Needless to say I have a ready supply every year and create dye using the method you showed. It works great. Also the fields nearby under the power lines have loads of goldenrod plants in bloom. I collect the flowers and boil them in water to create a yellow dye. Wools and silk are my favorite fibers for dying because of the deep colors that walnut and goldenrod dyes produce on these fibers.
Loved the beautiful calm video. Shayla, hope you guys are doing well, loved the pockelbel in the background. So proud of you for following your passion. Best to your beautiful family. Baby boy is so growing up!
I have been given quite a large bag of walnuts shells (hulls) . What can I expect when dying white wool . Thanks for the post cheers Pat nz. Ps what about walnut leaves plz????
Hi, Pat! Depending on how old the hills are you should expect a light to dark brown (fresher walnut hulls = darker colors). I have not dyed with walnut tree leaves but you should get yellow. Enjoy your dyeing and feel free to let me know how you go! 😊🌱
Same question. I also used a lobster pot that I occasionally use for food. I thought I could just scrub down with barkeepers but after your video I don't know. Are there any toxins to be cautious of?

Thank you for the lovely video! May I ask, where do you get your white cotton embroidery floss?
You can get it at cross stitch supplies like 123 Stitch in large quantities and also regular hobby shops in 8 yard lengths, hope that helps! ☺️

Why is it necessary to wear safety gear including a mask over the face when dyeing with a natural product like walnut hulls?
