    I don't know if its because defold has been updated since this video, but one thing I notice is that if you move the player object or its sprite to any position away from the default position of x0 y0 z0, then you will have to do the same thing to the bullet sprite and its collisionobject. if not, then none of the sprites will line up correctly when you build the project. Also, how did you get the bullet to continue to shoot up past the top of the screen when it’s only supposed to move up for 300 pixels?? Did you change parameters off camera or something? You really shouldve explained in the video why this is the case as its confusing af and not helpful to leave out such information as it can cause beginners like myself to get frustrated. I really do appreciate these videos and they are super helpful, but stuff like that makes me think that you might have been rushing a bit when making these tutorials and forgetting or skipping explainations on some things can be detrimental to those of us that are new to this.

      Yes, it's an expected bahaviour - Game Object is your base position and each component is in a child relationship to its game object - meaning those are kind of offsets to game object's position. So if you move your sprite away and leave the collision object - those do not match (their relative position do not match) ;) If you need to offset components for a reason, apply the same offsets to all relevant components like collision object components. Regarding bullet flying up - post your code in the forum, so I could check it ;) Thank you so much for the feedback on the video, this year I'm starting new tutorial series, so I will take your advises into consideration <3

    1:12 It's not just the engine and build size, it's the the project size... The folder of a new blank Unity6 3D project using the built-in renderer is at least 400mb in size and contains thousands of files, and for some reason a 2D project is 1.2Gb!

    Two things keep me from using defold. 1. The tilemap system is aweful. Only 1 atlas, only 1 layer. They need to look at unity/godot and give it an overhaul. 2. You are limited to 1024 scripts. This means my main style of game, roguelike rpg is untenable.

    My particles look all messed up in game. The preview is fine but in game they look weird and chopped up. EDIT: okay I managed to fix the issue. I was using sphere instead of circle. But now that I'm using circle, I have another problem. The particle effect has an invisible rectangle around it that makes it disappear. And this rectangle is only in x axis. wtf :(. Again, only in game. The preview is fine. EDIT 2: Okay... I had for some reason rotated it. It's okay now...

I know Defold is not tying to compete with the other engines in 3D but it still is important for making Defold a more viable option for new developers from both Godot and Unity. Also, thank you for showing my Tiled video here despite my channel starting recently on making Defold tutorials 😊 Edit: Also had no idea you were in the development team. Defold is good especially the small size the thing that could be added for more productive workflow are the drag and drop features and the input detection for keybindings i don't like searching in a big list also some better physics support and easier 3d workflow also a more extensive documentation especially for render script and source code and also some improvement in the code editor i like it but it could be better also editor tools like create custom editor tools will be good

    In 2024 and if you wish to make pixel art games...you have to code your own viewport/resolution/display handler. Not like in Godot/Unity and most of other developersuites. This part is like defold is a framework. Don´t understand why such a basic thing isn´t included. This avoid people to use defold, i spoke with many devs over the last years.

    smaller code examples would do great. I think the 3D in Defold is okay, it's more of an editor issue. It's too much of a pain to view and preview things when working in 3D. At least when I tried it a few months ago. And having small code examples for setting up 3D would probably help a lot.

    How to make one way plataforms? I'm trying to do it usint by checking on the player script: if self.velocity.y <= 0 and normal.y > 0.7 then -- apply accumulated correction on penetration vector end This workd ans i xan jukp through the cellings, but if my junp is weak and my player velocity.y reacha 0 at the middle of the jump while trespassing the celling, the resukt is somewhat bugy. I need a better aproach to this problem, so the player falls back to the groud if the jump is real istead of bugging in the celling when his y spped == 0

    If videos and better documentation come out I might give it another go. But currently I have stopped using as the things I believe should be pretty simple like collision and camera control were too laborious to be worth me spending hours trying to get without any luck. There should be specialized videos to go over certain components as well as videos on different style of games. It is so easy to find making X style game in X engine. But for Defold that is severely lacking. Waiting for some hopefully good stuff

    Defold's Rive integration is the best out of any game engine. I'm really glad that the team will keep enhancing its runtime support! Regarding video tutorials, perhaps experienced users can do without them. But if it wasn't for the videos on this channel, I would have never discovered or taken interest in Defold. Video tutorials are critical for getting new users at the door, imo. Thank you for this interview, it was very insightful to hear more of the future plans for Defold!

    wow, that escalated quickly. The two first tutorials had a slow and understandable rhythm. In this part you can change the same code in a lot of parts about 5 or 6 times in the first five minutes 🤪. I undestand that point but i consider a total madness in terms of knowledge taking into account the target to which these videos are supposed to be directed. I'm not criticizing the content, which is really great, but the timing... I prefer to be told, this is one way to do things right, more complex but an optimal one. I will find out if there are others and experiment with them, but seeing all the casuistries in the same example and video makes anyone dizzy XD

    I would say if you take it seriously you can make a 2D game engune fast. That said Defold is impressive low level engine. Things like direct access to render pipeline is amazing and it makes unitys so called scriptable render pipeline a joke

    What if you have complex platforming elements, like swinging and/or rotating platforms, or ball objects which need to roll down slopes that you also have?

    • @ChrisCarlos64
      @ChrisCarlos64 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I feel the talk here was trying to dissuade you from over complicating the design of your game's interactions with "real physics" calculations, when such things aren't always necessary in a 2D platformer type environment. Look back to SEVERAL old school 8-bit and 16-bit games, and you'll see much of them worked on these interactions with very defined systems that didn't worry about the mass of a boulder and how it should roll down the hill or how Donkey Kong's momentum should be calculated during a jump on the vine. It was very determinant, meaning there's no randomness really in much of these interactions. You could basically snap each frame with the play data and replay it, and it would always play the same. That cannot be said usually for physics engines dealing with floating points, because the precision issue with floating points does contain room for some errors. For swinging, I say look to Donkey Kong Country games where you could swing on moving objects. That behavior was fixed where jumping was not considering momentum to make. As for rolling a round object down a slope, I say look at Yoshi's Island. There are these Chain Chomp rocks that Yoshi pushes and they interact with the ground on slopes and uneven terrain. I think there are other games in 2D that are quite old that do similar things, and we could probably learn from them. In the end, this talk is trying to get you to consider alternatives to physics that don't involve "real" and "precise" calculations that could introduce more issues such as precision issues and differences between frames causing jitter and other bugs that could make development harder.
