Doesn't look like there's enough overhang on slates
Queen Victoria died in 1901. So that's not a Victorian roof if it's only 100 years old, it was built during the reign of George V🤦♂
@CharlesWhite-j4f its actually over 100 years old. I should have put plus 100
Plus it’s actually Edwardian
@ Haha, we YT viewers have sharp eyes, no error goes unnoticed regardless of magnitude😂 One hundred year old buildings are not at all remarkable in England, you have been watching too many American videos where they say that as they build houses to last 35 years max
@ you do 🤣 well I like the fact that it’s an old house and am restoring it to its former glory 😁
@@jordan0543 Yup, that clears up the matter, it is Victorian BUT it's more than 100 years old, it's 168 years old😂 My original post was just criticising the assertion that something only 100 years old could be Victorian
☠️🍻☠️Sie kamen, um die deutsche Industrie zu stehlen, und es gelang ihnen, die Amerikaner zu stehlen
Should have had a professional look at it before doing it. To make sure it is done correctly. You will be paying for it later if it wasn’t done correctly!
@@stevenkeiser this jobs being overviewed by a roofer of over 40 years, I'll assure you from your zimmerframe that it's being done correctly 👍🏼
Sadly, a very unprofessional job, you decreased the headlap, in order to save slates at the top of the roof, an absolute no no, the slating now is barely weathered, and also you should not be using next door's roof, as a scaffold, I am sorry but it is a 👎 from me A retired builder with over 50 years experience
@@kakariki8744 the headlap was 65mm which is more than required on a roof of this spec therefore we reduced well within the tolerances. "Next doors roof" is not next doors roof but is the same property but an extension that didn't require works. Ultimately this video wasn't titled 'comment your opinion' so just keep your internal thoughts internal because you're talking waffle!
@@Max-ds1fv I thought it was fine, just a little tip tho, cut off a piece of baton the length of the gap between batons so you can use to get the measurement between batons correct before nailing everytime, saves getting tape measure out each time but besides that…good job
It’s literally my house and I’m more than happy with it thanks
wow reenactment troops taking some prisoners wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
Did your finger get stuck on the keyboard?
@@Jwresto i was just to amaaaaaaaaaaaazed
Would of been so better had you cleared the roofs rubbish makes it easier than having to go inside to do it😮
@@gailconway5037 we have cleared it out it will be on the next video
@@Jwresto only because we filled 40 bags in ours and had hired an industrial vac the insulation was that old it broke up 🤯
@@gailconway5037 there was so much!! I feel your pain
A perfect day for doing a roof.....(a now retired joiner)...well done lads..👍🏻
@@frankhornby6873 thanks mate! Thanks for watching!
The tile battens add a considerable strength to the roof and should have staggered joints at one joint in four battens not in line like you’ve done.
This rood will leak, membrane nailed with beams and tiles should have fit sterling boards and insulated properly. AWFUL JOB and even dare to make a video 😂😂😂
@@amgpuma well considering this “rood” had no insulation for 100 plus years and didn’t leak I’m pretty sure a talented roofer like my friend here has done a great job of repairing this ROOF Thanks but keep that one to yourself pal
@@Jwresto this roof will leak sooner or later, constructions techniques has progressed over the last 100 years and nail slates to a soft wood structure is not one of those. In this country all made such way to feedback the system slaters doesn't exist in the rest of the world as roofs are made to last with no leaks. Your video is public so I can make the comments I wish
@@amgpuma....*uckin’ knowall.....I bet you’d go dizzy just being on the scaffold!...😂🤡
@@frankhornby6873🤣
@@amgpuma this is absolute nonsense
They are drip trays and prevent water ingress as the felt wears at the exposure to the sun and disintegrates, stops the rot of the sarking behind the fascia.hopefully.
Und was haltet ihr von konterlattung. Hinterlüftung? 👎👎👎🇩🇪
@@thomasschafer7268 there is no need for counter batons, this would unnecessarily raise the overall height on the roof and if anything it would suffocate the timbers more than the way we have done it 👍🏼
Genau, bei uns in die Niederlände wird auch alles Konterlattung gebaut. Für Hinterlüftung und auch gegen Dreck was da leigen bleiben kann.
What about getting rid of all the crap inside first
You should try that with your mouth
@@piripi51 please check out my response to this on another person's comment!
@@jordan0543 here’s an idea for u…if u don’t want comments don’t make videos
@@johndownie9385 I didn’t make the video actually. So here’s an idea for you John, actually watch the video before having an opinion on it so you can be fully informed to who made it and who is in it.
Should of done that 😮
Black bogies to look forward to. 😂
@@markrainford1219 yep 🤣🤣
Hi any reasone you didnt use presser treated lath and timber? I take it had preservation order on houses?
All timbers used were marked treated at the builders merchant and no there is not preservation order on the house. Standard town and country planning stating the roof must be slate.
you roofer could do with a hammer tacker and a chalk line... Makes thing so much faster Maybe a cordless jigsaw for cutting the laths
I do have a chalk line as you'll see in the next video! I just ran out of dye for the line! Will look into a hammer tacker though!
Great to see the old slates going back!
Always! Nothing wrong with them, the best slates are the oldest!

Thankyou for being so kind 🙏🏼
@@rb67mustang thanks mate! Thanks for watching!
The roof on my Bryant developer-built house had to be completely replaced after 24 years. My neighbours are in a similar position.
Why?
If you lived in North America that would be normal, We are the only continent to use disposable roofing, lol.
Why didn’t u get rid of all that manky insulation before starting anew
That's my exact thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣
The customers want to insulate, some time in the future! They're not ready for this step yet and we will come round to this at a later date! 👍🏼
It’s actually none of your business John
Cool vid
@@bertrandducouedic8621 thankyou!
Should you not have 10 mm drape gap between membrane and slate baton ? Or use counter batons if you want to keep the membrane tight ?
I like to keep the membrane tight initially as, as the roof is loaded, walked over etc it will sag as it has. I appreciate your eye for detail but I assure you all is sweet as a nut 🙏🏼
Different ! Not terrible, I always wondered why roofers cost so much, when it seems such an easy job😂😂
@@2zero660 my back said otherwise 😂
It may seem easy but it’s a lot of labour
Getting them tracks back on will be interesting 🙄 👍

Great vid Jaime...cured my withdrawal. Do yoiraelf a favour mate when palying with metal tracks, wear lesther gloves, itll help stop you losing flesh when your fingers get pinched between the track links. Excited to see the update on the Dodge and Jeeps. Quick question...when you spray your olive drab paint over your red oxide do you scuff and sand the primer or jsut spray over the top? Do you spray when temps and humidty or exactly how the data sheet says to or just spray away? I have been having all sorts of trouble with my PPG paint sticking to my red oxide primers...its scratching off and chipping off even weeks after being painted.
@@olivedrabgarage6243 haha that’s good! Thanks for the tip! It does always help if it’s warm and dry conditions, when you painted your pannel was there any previous or original paint that was still there? Sometimes it can react with old paint
