They are drip trays and prevent water ingress as the felt wears at the exposure to the sun and disintegrates, stops the rot of the sarking behind the fascia.hopefully.
I like to keep the membrane tight initially as, as the roof is loaded, walked over etc it will sag as it has. I appreciate your eye for detail but I assure you all is sweet as a nut 🙏🏼
@@johndownie9385 I didn’t make the video actually. So here’s an idea for you John, actually watch the video before having an opinion on it so you can be fully informed to who made it and who is in it.
@@thomasschafer7268 there is no need for counter batons, this would unnecessarily raise the overall height on the roof and if anything it would suffocate the timbers more than the way we have done it 👍🏼
Should have had a professional look at it before doing it. To make sure it is done correctly. You will be paying for it later if it wasn’t done correctly!
Sadly, a very unprofessional job, you decreased the headlap, in order to save slates at the top of the roof, an absolute no no, the slating now is barely weathered, and also you should not be using next door's roof, as a scaffold, I am sorry but it is a 👎 from me A retired builder with over 50 years experience
@@kakariki8744 the headlap was 65mm which is more than required on a roof of this spec therefore we reduced well within the tolerances. This rood will leak, membrane nailed with beams and tiles should have fit sterling boards and insulated properly. AWFUL JOB and even dare to make a video 😂😂😂
@@amgpuma well considering this “rood” had no insulation for 100 plus years and didn’t leak I’m pretty sure a talented roofer like my friend here has done a great job of repairing this ROOF Thanks but keep that one to yourself pal

Great to see the old slates going back!
Always! Nothing wrong with them, the best slates are the oldest!

@@markrainford1219 yep 🤣🤣
The roof on my Bryant developer-built house had to be completely replaced after 24 years. My neighbours are in a similar position.
Why?
If you lived in North America that would be normal, We are the only continent to use disposable roofing, lol.
Different ! Not terrible, I always wondered why roofers cost so much, when it seems such an easy job😂😂
@@2zero660 my back said otherwise 😂
you roofer could do with a hammer tacker and a chalk line... Makes thing so much faster Maybe a cordless jigsaw for cutting the laths
I do have a chalk line as you'll see in the next video! I just ran out of dye for the line! Will look into a hammer tacker though!
The tile battens add a considerable strength to the roof and should have staggered joints at one joint in four battens not in line like you’ve done.
Cool vid
@@bertrandducouedic8621 thankyou!
Should you not have 10 mm drape gap between membrane and slate baton ? Or use counter batons if you want to keep the membrane tight ?

Would of been so better had you cleared the roofs rubbish makes it easier than having to go inside to do it😮
