Saturday the 21th September, running the Belton House
243rd parkrun and 1st at Belton House
Legs still a little tired from an Interval sprint session on Thursday, I wasn't able to push as much as I had wanted from the off, but was able to hold a fairly consistent pace, while not hilly, there were some undulations here and there and finish with a time of 20:09. With fresher legs, sub 20 would definitely be on the cards!
Official finishing time of 20:09
4th placed finisher out of 312 and 2nd in the 45-49 age group
My PB at remains 19:28 at Clumber Park parkrun (th-cam.com/video/cHLMKuLtjHk/w-d-xo.html)
My fastest time this year 19:41 (th-cam.com/video/C6T2XCuea1Q/w-d-xo.html)

Over 50 years ago, early morning on most days I ran down the Limb Valley on my way to work. Nice to see that it is just as good now as it was then. Due to the lush vegetation, the purest air that you can breathe. And the soft gentle downhill slope means that you can pile in the miles over this sort of terrain with no damage to the joints. My doctor disagreed. He told me that if I continued with this sort of running my knees would be ruined by the time I was 50. And here I am, 86 and still prancing downhill. Thanks, Limb Valley. In general, it is uplifting to see so many women participants in this event. In my early days, Sheffield women were forbidden from doimg the 3 mile Hallam Chase. Too arduous for them. These days ultramarathons etc are open to them. Indeed women sometimes beat all men in the toughest high-profile ultras (vide Nicky Spinks and Jasmin Parris). I could say more on Matt's running-style and on other Limb-Valley events in the past. But that is quite enough from this boring old fart.

    • @MattClarry

It's a total of about 15 miles, but just under 13 are raced across 11 timed sections, the remainder is walked/jogged during the recovery !

You know, I'm 63 now, and when I was 21 I used to cruise sub 3:30/km runs for 25km +, and there was no Parkruns or anything like that, no Garmins, or even internet, if only I could do it all again, enjoy it while you can mate is my advice !!

Thats an incredible pace to run at for that long, don't think I've ever been able to hold that pace for any more than a couple km ! I'll do my best to keep enjoying it!

Great running Matt... another sub 20. That run looked a lot more evenly paced run this time and great run endurance up that last hill and building all the way to the finish. Impressive stuff... a rich vein of form you're in the past few months.

Cheers, glad you're enjoying them! My all time parkrun PB is 19:28 and that was around Clumber. During lockdown I did manage to run an 18:58 it on the road and a couple more around that time, but picked up a minor calf injury, but it was significant enough to slow me down at the time and I've not been able to get back to that since sadly! I'm 5'10.5 and currently around 78kg
