    Thank you for posting this video. No one else has taken the time to do a Hydros system overview/ setup and what can be achieved with Hydros. Your video is what I have been looking for. I am currently working on setting up a water change station in my basement. I am currently purchasing the parts as I can afford them. I plan on automating some of the functions on my water change station. Which controller or combination of controllers are needed to start from scratch to automate the water change station in my basement? I currently do not own any controllers or Hydros equipment? I am thinking of purchasing the X2 Starter pack, an XS controller & ATO kit with the triple water level sensor. If you recommend something different I am open to suggestions. I am not exactly sure how many water level sensors I will need. I am thinking a total of 4 level sensors and the one triple water level sensor available in the ATO kit. (one high level sensor & one low level sensor in the freshwater tank = 2 level sensors to control RO/DI.) (one high level sensor & one low level sensor in the sump of the display tank. = 2 water level sensors to control the AWC) and the Triple level sensor to to control the ATO. What I want out of the Hydros on my water change station is the following. 1. Auto refill RO/DI water storage tank 2. Auto water change display tank 3. Auto refill ATO container & maintain display water level 4. Measure water temperature of mixed saltwater

    • @REEFHUB-Offical
      @REEFHUB-Offical 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for viewing and I’m happy it helped you out. That sounds like a great start. The ATO sensor will also act as the high level sensor for AWC. If you are also planning to do a collective then you’ll also need a command bus cable and a terminator as well. Be sure to pay particular attention to the command bus tho. The command bus for anything over 3 meters will be data only so if you plan to have Hydros equipment greater than 3 meters apart you’ll need a data only command bus cable. The data only is sold up to 50ft in length. There is also a DIY method on making those cables to in the Hydros forum. Hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    A great video. A couple of small suggestions for the future. When taking the sample in the large vial it is important not to take water from the surface.. immerse the vial into the water, release the air from the vial beneath the surface, take out and put the cap on. Secondly,, for the small vials.. charge the syringe, put the filter on, release some water through the filter until there is 15ml in the syringe, fill the vial and you are done. You also should not rinse the vials before use, they are sterile. Basically the problem with surface water is there is an oily film that will skew the results of the icp.. a lot of phosphates are in that surface film, so to get an accurate icp you want to avoid taking water from the surface.

      @REEFHUB-Offical 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for the suggestion! I am deftly considering that and will probably eventually move towards it. The WiFi strips for me tho have been pretty reliable because I created a dedicated network for Hydros to use at my house and it is completely isolated from everything else. But it is deftly an improvement I’m looking to make in the future :)

      @rolandmuncie 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@REEFHUB-Offical I also use a dedicated 2.4GHz ssid, still lose strip connection once in a while so I don’t trust them. I use a different Kamoer that sits by my tank to drain down to the basement and a tunze turbelle high jet as a fill pump up from the reservoir in the basement. The Kamoer was too slow with the headpressure. Now doing a daily WC of 5 gallons in under 40 mins total.

    For anyone struggling to get their Copperband Butterfly fish eating, I hope this video helps you out. There is a lot of flow in my Reef Aquarium so turning on a Feed Mode gives this fish the opportunity to try get the food. This is my second CBB. The first one was purchased online and died within a couple weeks. The one in this video was purchased at my LFS and I had the opportunity to see it eat Live Brine before buying. After purchasing, I blacked out the bag by covering it up the trip back home - doing this seem to help reduce some of the stress on the fish. After I got home, I dripped acclimated it to my tank for 3 hours and gave him a couple of days to adjust. Mixing the Food with Vitachem and Garlic also adds flavor and vitamins to the food the fish could otherwise also be lacking.

Both of them never catch the fish or any shrimps. They don’t bother corals in 75 gallons

    Honestly, I feel like this is 100% depending on location. Our local Petsmart has one of the smartest people I've ever encountered in the fish hobby. On the other hand, the LFS here in Morgantown is a fucking mess. They're knowledgeable, but their tanks are a disaster. The fish are all lethargic, and the water is green in some tanks. I could go on, I once saw a dead fish in the same tank on consecutive days in there too. The LFS's on the video look amazing though, and that second guy really knew his stuff.

    Stumbled across your video, and I saw a problem that lots of aquarist do wrong. First, when temperature aclimating fish, never open the bag. If there is any waste or ammonia in the bag, opening the bag to fresh air will cause a reaction, and the ammonia and PH will be effected and can get quite high, further stressing out the fish. Also, drip acclimation is considered an old technique, and studies have found it to be bad for the fish. When you open the bag for drip acclimation, as I said before, this affects the ammonia and PH. Then you add some water from your tank to the bag. This does nothing but further stress out the fish. The water from your tank into the floating baged fish only dilutes the ammonia, but it also further throws off the PH, amongst other things. If your tank is not the same salinity as the water in the bag from the pet store, you are further changing the salinity in the bag, further stressing out the fish. Now the fish is sitting in water with a wacky PH, high ammonia, a different salinity from the petstore, and your tank. Hardy fish will usually survive through this, but the sensitive fish can be irreversibly affected and not survive the stress of it all. The best way to put new fish in the tank is to float the bag closed for about 20 minutes so the fish does not go into temperature shock. Then, pour out the water and then pour out the fish into the tank. This will limit the stress of the fish, and they will have an easier time acclimating to your tank without going through hell first. Also, Snowflake Eeels, as well as some fish, can be finicky eaters. It is always good to find out what the petstore feeds the fish and has gotten the fish to eat. That way, the fish will have less stress aclimating to the new tank as it will at least have familiar food. As far as most fish as well as eels, you will have to get them used to a varied diet as shrimp does not contain all the vitamins and nutrients, the eel, or most any fish needs. .

    The employees these days at Petco will not know as much as the employees at your local fish store. I find that sad. About 30 or so years ago, I was the instore animal specialist. You used to have to study a guidebook and take a test to be certified in an animal department. Not only do I have a degree in wildlife biology, but I also have a certificate in animal husbandry. I took all the animal department tests and passed and became a very sought-after animal specialist. Lots of other stores than the one I worked at used to call me for advice. I was in charge of all the animal departments and directly took care of the aquatic section. At the time, we had nice saltwater tanks and freshwater tanks. These days, they mainstreamed what is carried, and most Petcos no longer carry saltwater fish. I had that job for about 10 years before they downsized everything they carried and scraped the animal specialist program. When that happened, I was no longer the animal specialist, and new employees no longer had the knowledge to properly care for the animals or help customers. Sadly, I was reduced to only an aquatics maintainer and was no longer in charge of all the animal departments, and I saw the care and maintenance go downhill as it was no longer my job to care. The animal care was mainstreamed, and not as much was done as the company felt all that was being done was overkill and not necessary and would save the company money. As I began to see a decline in the overall health of the animals and was getting into trouble for trying to help them, as this was now against policy, and most medications and preventatives were scrapped from use, I quit.

This was a great video comparing both stores gave me a lot of insight and a lot to think about on where I want to shop also never knew Gerbers medicated their fish which is great to hear

      I have been to a couple Petco where the aquatics person knew what they are doing, but then when I returned they no longer worked there. The one I actually caught the footage at used to have someone who was amazing, but I found out later on that person now works for an LFS in his area lol 🤷

    Stopped watching due to shaky cam and audio. You should consider investing in some better equipment. The content was pretty good though.

      Thank you and I will take this under consideration! It’s deftly not an equipment issue as I have already upgraded to a Sony camera and boom mic. It’s deftly more of an operator error (myself) with using the gear. I’m still learning and I will get better! I deftly appreciate the feedback and thank you for viewing! 😊

      Hey what’s up man! If you ever read this there is setting - in your camera settings called IS stabilization or “stable shot” also your lens could have a switch that says something about stabilization. Always make sure your on Auto focus I would suggest shooting in an Auto video setting or if you understand the differences. Go for 30fps with a shutter speed of 1/60 always. Honesty if you can do it use Auto iso that’s digital light pretty much that you can add in camera. If your shooting 60 fps then shutter speed 1/120 or 1/125

    I have two local fish stores near me. 1 is a true local fish store, whilst the other is a branch store called Maidenhead Aquatic in the UK. They are not as big as Petco and Pets at Home (UK's version of Petco). The Maidenhead Aquatic in my local are very passionate. The place and the tanks are always clean, the staff are very friendly and sometimes act like they don't even work there. On the other hand, it's the polar opposite. The owner doesn't even want to be there, the place is a filth.

      Thanks for sharing! Yes, here in the US big box stores appear to just sell to make money and share no passion in the hobby. It’s kinda sad, but that’s what is so awesome about the LFS. They are typically ran by someone who is true and passionate about the hobby.

    Stupid comparison and you also sound like a douche when you are talking to the Petco employee. Of course they don’t know as much or their tanks aren’t up to par at a place that fish aren’t their top priority like a local fish store. Just be happy that there are place to buy fish like that cause some places don’t have local fish stores.

    I have had the opportunity to play with the Reef Factory TDS Meter for a Few Weeks now. After a Few weeks and trying to calibrate this device, I cannot recommend the TDS meter. It never reads above 0, when my HM Digital TDS Meter reads correctly and as expected. ***The Aquatec Flush Kit has been a rock solid performer!***
