Re: the "bad boy" in female fantasies like romance novels, I think it's important to keep in mind that said bad boys almost always have an arc where they become better for the main character (MC). If nothing else, they start to treat the MC in more loving and pro-social ways, but sometimes there's a ripple effect to a wider community. Regardless, a man demonstrably capable of being dangerous is depicted as being or becoming completely trustworthy and safe for the MC. There are male love interests (LIs) who continue to engage in questionable or even outright abusive behavior towards the MC, but it's much rarer for it to be blatant disrespect and physical harm, vs. something like the stalking in Twilight, where the LI's obsessiveness can read as romantic to people who aren't taking it too seriously, especially when the author doesn't give the behavior an air of danger on the page. The MC is also notably special for being the only person who brings out this better side in the LI. So I think attraction to bad boys in fiction is mostly about the power fantasy of winning over an obviously capable protector/provider who shows a willingness to invest and sacrifice for the MC ONLY -- no one else has been so important to him before, and presumably no one else will be after. Plus a little bit of danger in fiction is thrilling, right? I imagine that's also part of the allure of the femme fatale archetype that male readers enjoy in other genres. Beyond that, I wonder if, when it comes to attraction to fictional bad boys or real-life dark triad chads [picked that up from the F.D. interview 😆], there may be a connection to people gravitating towards dynamics that resemble their past traumas, hoping for a better "ending" and/or because it's familiar and normalized to them... but I don't know enough to say more about that with confidence. All just layperson speculation on my end, anyway.

Macken, have you ever looked into female cuckoldry? Social media sites and DNA sequencing like AncestryDNA, 23&Me, etc has revealed hidden children of men, and their wives cuckolded. I personally know 3 people: 1st where they discovered thru 23&me that grandpa had a whole other family, the 2nd where she finds out her childless husband actually had a child he didn't even know about; 3rd where she found out her bf had an affair baby through social media. The 1st case widowed grandmother wasn't told about her husbands affair, but she would've been devastated, relatives are post mortem disgusted by the grandpa. The 2nd case wife wasn't quite cuckolded, but she didn't want to marry a single father so she feels bamboozled by this discovery, the 3rd case girlfriend dumped the cheating bf.

No surprises here. In a sense both makeup and plastic surgery are genefrauding techniques. If the other person realizes you've done either, then it signals two things to them: a)your genes are not as good as you present them to be so the potential offsprings might be less attractive, and b)willingness to deceive, thus why men thought these women are more likely to cheat.

The "Wall" is the point at which a woman's fertility and likelihood of having healthy offspring starts to decline. Men, typically men who have achieved financial and career success in life, thinking rationally and being deliberate want to have progeny not afflicted by birth defects. We want children who will be healthy and inherit whatever we can provide to them. We also want women who are less inclined to have a history, because women have a tendency to compare us to those in their past rather than focusing on the present relationship exclusively. So, the "Wall" is more than just some indication that some men believe women are now declining in their ability to find mates, it reflects their declining fertility. Frankly, though, the biggest and strongest competitor for any woman in her 30's or older is the young women who will seek to find advantage in having a relationship or marriage to an older, financially stable man. Men, at least Western Men, don't force younger women into positions as their paramours or wives. Consent is required and often granted by women. Of course, some men also have their wall, but on balance that is dependent upon the factors that make them attractive to women, like appearance, health, charm, and wealth. If you are fat, ugly, and poor, no amount of charm or humor is likely to help you secure a wife.

In Australia, women cheating has now been normalised, it’s socially accepted and considered empowering and a sign of a strong successful woman. On the other hand, men are ore demonised for cheating more than ever, and currently there is state and federal legislation to imprison men for just looking/glancing at a fully dressed woman. This is called “visual r@pe”.

Love you man, but you rely WAY too much on self-reportimg regarding these issues. If we know that women lie about what they look for in a partner.....he's nice, loves animals, calls his mom regularly, etc..... we can be triply sure that they'll lie about this stuff even more. As someone who has often been the other guy, I can say this with a high degree of certainty: Nearly all women who cheat are 304s and often big time 304s (and I only say "nearly" because I've never met an exception) They're very unlikely to say to someone conducting a study that they're functionally incapable of monogamy, or even admit this to themselves.

I think the more accurate thing to say is that men are more WILLING to cheat but don’t get opportunity, whereas women are less willing but have more OPPORTUNITY. Most men aren’t attractive enough for women to have casual flings with, hence the chance of a woman acting on his lust in an opportunistic manner is rare. Whereas a woman can find someone to sleep with down the road or using apps.

I think there are a lot more factors to consider here. I watched a study done to analyze a woman's preference and the difference when she is on her cycle vs not and they were opposite. Also, I like how a full beard looks but having sensitive skin and sensory issues, I have a preference to a soft smooth face on my face, lips and thighs. As well, it's a hygiene thing for me, personally.
