“Perfect”? Here are some unexplained plot holes: -When he went to his home town in the past. -When you go down to Nautica after the big fish was suppose to have went down and destroyed it and it’s fully intact. -Vince being guilty of feeding fighters the monster and just getting a “it’s okay, just do better next time” Really liking the game about 3/4 through, but it certainly has some issues
Thanks for the upload! Also, do I hear MegaMan X in the background?
@@MumOfZack yep! Love the megaman soundtrack and used it a lot back in the day!
@@Crimsonrosso Good on ya! I always loved the Spark Mandrill music. But yeah, I’m getting my son into Kingdom hearts and you introduced me to a couple of things that I didn’t even know!
@ yo a fellow x fan! Awesome! Yea spark mandril is one of my favorite soundtracks behind the storm eagle theme! And its awesome to hear your child is getting into kingdom hearts! Always happy to hear people getting into the series
I never played Xenosaga. Seriously. So this review will be interesting. Can't wait to see you do the others.
@@MegamanNG I’m already halfway through episode two so I’m hoping I can get that review out by February, hope you enjoy the first episode though
@@Crimsonrosso You're in for hell. There are also a few things I should mention. First, the Xenosaga trilogy came out at a time where there was this xenophobia going on towards Japanese gmaes. I know it thanks to X-Play. Not only that but Xenosaga was originally going to be a 6-part story but had to be cut down to 3. Let's just say that it's development wasn't pretty. Made no better by the fact that Tetsuya Takahashi wasn't happy with the company after Masaya Nakamura stepped down in 2002, three years before Namco merged with Bandai. Due to company changes, he wasn't happy because his creative freedom was being lessened as the company didn't want to take risks. It was Shinji Hatano who convinced him to work with Nintendo. As such, Monolith Soft parted ways with Bamco on bad terms and went with Nintendo as a subsidiary. The rest is history. Here's the details: www.vgfacts.com/company/monolithsoft/
Pretty good review had me chuckling, and yeah have to say for a PS2 game, it does hold well up in visuals, among also FFX and KH1. Looking forward to see you cover....Episode 2......and curious if you're one day going to review the anime adaptation of this someday.
Thxs for watching Homie! Always appreciate seeing ya in the comments! Wait, it has an anime adaptation? I actually didn’t know that, I know it had a DS remake of one and two, but I didn’t know it had an anime adaptation.
@@Crimsonrosso yep it's called Xenosaga: The Animation in 2005, produced by Toei Animation and lasted for 12 episodes, based on well....Episode 1 of the Trilogy, fully dubbed even
@ ill have to check it out, hoping its better then northern war …. Not that that’s at all that hard to do.
I just finished the game today and WOW is it good, like it's a perfect 10/10, and I'm a very picky person, I own 5,000+ games and collect for every system ever made And yet this just blew me away I leveled up every character to 99 before the final fight, im just starting the post game now I finally found a game I like MORE than pokemon. I'm also a huge dbz fan so knowing Akira toriyama R.i.P was a big part of this meant alot to me ❤
Had to lower volume for story stuff but great review and u know I let the video play through anyway 👀👍
beastttttt! thxs homie!
The absolute disrespect to Valibro, I can't believe it! 😂 Spot on review Crimson. I would definitely love to see this game remade with disc 2 fully fleshed out. Let's hope Square and Monolith can do something on that front one of these days.
@@Cyrus_Bright thxs cyrus! Honestly i really hope square and takahasi can sit down one day and work out a sequell! Would be rad as fuck
You called? 🤣 Had to stop halfway when you got into story territory since I'm planning on jumping into the game blind myself in early January, but I've been loving the video regardless!
LETS GOOOO!!!’n
The game is undibutably a masterpiece and even if they had to cut a ton of content and make a really drab presentation, I'm glad the creators found a way to still introduce almost all of they wanted in the game.
It really is a damn good game
Chrono Trigger and….FF6??????? Not FF7????
@@GalaxyJakeYT funny enough ff6 is nowadays treated as far more the mosr recommended final fantasy i hear about. Interestinghow much the public has shifted towards it
@ huh, that’s interesting, I honestly had no idea FF6 was so highly regarded. I played it and thought it was a pretty good game, but hadn’t really heard people talking about it much compared to 7 and 10
@@GalaxyJakeYT yea theres been a p[retty big catural shift with a lot of fans where titles like ff6 have been pushed more over games like 7
Glad you enjoyed this game and that so many other people are finally playing this amazing masterpiece 👌🏽 I'm also a huge fan of the story of Fei's fractured mental state. Didn't that arc remind you of a certain character from Xenoblade Chronicles 2....?? 👀 Also for a replay I highly recommend the Perfect Works Build. It'll pose much more of a balanced challenge, have a much better translated script, and much less annoyances with random encounters. Also have fun with Xenosaga I unfortunately won't be getting to that anytime soon 😭 Hopefully sometime next year if I have the time, I need to prioritize other JRPGs first and I'm still holding out for a potential remaster haha 😅
thxs nis! i may take ya up on that perfect works for next time, and funny enough i just finished episode 1 and am onto 2 for xenosaga lol.
It’s wild to think we got wild to play Xenogears, Vagrant Saga, Wild arms, Legend of Dragoon Suikoden and Thousand Arms back to back. Peak gaming era.
man ps1 era sounds like it was a hell of a time man. def need to check out other titles from that time! espically legend of dragoon
@ budgets weren’t insane, studios were still experimenting, and creatives were still in control. There wasn’t a lot of angry gamer discourse. It was a good time to game. Hell it was a good time to be a nerd.
@@theeidofe9716 take me back man, sounds beautiful
I’ve never played Xenogears, but I can say that I’ve played XenoSaga and Xenoblade. Tackling the concept of Self and being is something I would have never expected from a video game. But then again I can’t completely say that this is just a game…
takahashi is honestly a master at tackling this incredibly human feelings and portraying them amazingly in his works
Do people actually recommend Xenogears? I mean is it really ul there with FF6 and Chrono Trigger?
Some do, however its not as mentioned as the other 2.
Yes! It’s hard to explain the hype behind this game when it dropped. This was THEE RPG and is considered by damn near all of my friends as the best RPG of the generation. Theres a reason a remake is still requested to this day.
If you want the deepest story of any rpg...yes
Wait that title sounds familiar lol? Anyway good review! Been waiting for this haha Looking forward for more your Xenosaga journey next
Glad you enjoyed and im happy its my final vid for the year! Thankfully the saga video script is done so itll probably be out in January
It also didn't help was that Square meddled in Xenogears. How you ask? Well some of the game's budget went into Sakaguchi's pet proejct: The Spirits Within. That and after Xenogears, Tetsuya Takahashi wanted to pitch a sequel but was denied. He saw the writing on the wall as Square was going ALL IN on Final Fantasy. Realizing that his ideas wouldn't be accepted, he left Square to form his own company: Monolith Soft. And when it came to his next project: Xenosaga. That's a topic for another video.
Out of curiosity do you have a confirmed source on this? Cause every source ive found is square actually being incredibly charitable towards gears
@@Crimsonrosso I only heard about it from a comment on another YT video and that has me wondering. That and even though Square was charitable towards Xenogears, they were pushing more towards Final Fantasy as their star franchise.
Act 3 was postgame for me. The ridiculousness of going back and undoing half the characters' stories just to revive Veronica, which you're supposed to be able to do anyway is stupid.
@@pathfinderlight pretty much, i love Veronica but completely erasing her death just invalidates all the struggle the cast went through, not to mention completely erasing serenas character development
Dragon Quest XI is one of the few post games I actually bothered finishing. Most of them devolve into series of superhard and super boring challenges for ultra hardcore TRUE GAMERSXXXXX where nothing you do matters and the only reward is even more pointless stat buffs.
@@ThomasstevenSlater im glad others were able to like it, but to me it always felt like a story cop out. The bosses are fun but i personally couldn’t get behind the whole time travel since it feels like it undercuts a lot of the most impactful character moments
I told you. I told you. I tell everyone who ever asks for an RPG to play to give this game a try. There’s a lot of little and big things about this game that I really love that I could gush about for hours, but I’ll save all of it for another time. Trust me, I really do have a lot to say. To address your cons: - Sundown Kid’s recruitment method kind of makes sense to me from a character perspective. Everyone in the Final Chapter are seen doing things that would make sense for that character to do (Oboromaru would’ve hid himself on top of a sign near the entrance to the cave, and would ambush you if you read it, Pogo is hanging out in a secluded part of the woods, the Successor you get would meditate on the peak of the mountains, etc.) Sundown is assessing the situation he’s in and taking a look around the area each time you talk to him. He’s not the kind of guy who’d immediately chat with you, especially since everyone is practically a stranger in this already strange environment. The only reason he stops is because you keep tailing him, and he feels the need to interrogate you for possible information. I’d chalk it more towards “It wasn’t executed properly” rather than padding out time cause I imagine that’s what the intent for him was. As for Cube, the enhancements aren’t even that necessary since equipment are what really matters in this case. As long as you have the appropriate equipment to minmax a character’s stats, then you’re essentially ready for the final boss. Plus, stats have a cap in this game that’s very easy to reach with the endgame gear, so optimizing your kit properly will benefit you in the long run. Cube gets the advantage of equipping accessories that give him new tools to use (Chick Cannon go bwak!), and his already powerful support skills and abilities makes him really good despite his slower pace. As for getting the enhancements, you have to defeat the Distant Future enemies, which will spawn naturally if you chose Cube as the leader. While the drops are rare, exploring the map for good equipment with him will more or less guarantee at least a few of them. This is a very nice video overall, and I’m happy to see it left such an impression on you. The game doesn’t really get talked about as much as other HD-2D games (or even Square Enix games as a whole), so it always makes me happy to see others try it.
@@sirautismo6284 honestly I looked up the sales for this game after I had beaten it and it kind of sucks how it didn’t even break 1 million, like out of all of the overlook games I’ve played this is easily one of the ones that deserved millions of sales the most. Hoping this vid can get a little more popular so I can at least get one or two more people to try it!
epic review Crimson, this game looks incredible and the fact it got such a high score from you blows my mind. What other games have you given that same score, out of curiosity? As someone that unfortunately dropped Octopath around 30 hours in, this (and Triangle Strategy) actually look like HD-2D games I'd adore all the way through.
Thxs cyrus!!! Honestly other 10/10 JRPGS would probably have to be the world ends with you and maybe KH2FM! Both of thise may be 10/10s ngl
Live a Live is such a gem. It truly is a gem. More people need to play this game and experience it. Now if only Square-Enix can allow me to upload the rest of my playthrough. One episode got blocked worldwide by Square-Enix and if I were to upload the finale, I would get copyright struck.
@@MegamanNG wait you cant upload vids on it? Was it a music problem or something?
@@Crimsonrosso Let's just say that SE was trying to prevent spoilers, not realizing that it was a remake of a 30-year-old game. It was bullshit.
@ yeesh that dumb, like i could maybe get music but blocking spoilers is dumb af lol
Glad to hear you loved this one! Great review my dude, keen for the next one! 🔥
@@uppernimbus thxs nimbus! Honestly surprised how much i ended up enjoying myself! Kinda makes me wanna try out chrono trigger now!
Wow! Wasn’t expecting a game like this to get your Crimsonrosso Joe Rating 10/10 with A BADASS Seal of Approval But yeah glad you loved it, I sure did so, even if I did have more Cons with it than you did. Especially coming after Chrono Trigger, this was an absolute treat
Honestly even i was shocked at how much i loved it. I was expecting to walk away giving it an eight out of 10. But every chapter I finished, I just fell in love with it more and mores!
Great video, Crimson! Which chapters were your favorites? Mine were Imperial China and Modern Day out of the original group
@@ZachOfHeartz thxs zach! If i had to pick, my personal favorites were probably imperial china, fistant future, and my favorite middle ages.

I'm curious to try out the Daybreak demo just to play the action combat. It's such a cool mechanic but I feel like Trails might have done it better.
@@nishquikpops i go over it a bit more in the demo review but yea i think daybreak did it better, its a bit slower and not as flashy as metaphor. But it also feels more like an actual mechanic that is meant to be used in tandem with the gameplay in comparison
I barely played any DS games cuz I never had one, I’d love to play some of these. Also congrats homie
Sweis you would genuinely love this era, there are so many quality RPGS on this bad boy! Also thxs!
Awesome list Crimson! Very touching story for numero uno. I feel a lot of people who played it can definitely relate in some way. Here's to you reaching your next goal asap! If anyone deserves it, it's definitely you. Never stop working hard and keep making those bangers 💪
Yoooo thxs cy! Was a bit worried people wouldn’t be happy with hiw personal i got with number one so im glad to hear it! Heres hoping we reach 1k next year 😎
I had played Persona 4 and 5 but never 3. So I decided to start up Persona 3 FES, I would definitely recommend people play this on an emulator so you can use save states. Some of the harder bosses are absolutely able to be beaten easily, but it all depends on the RNG you get with your party members. Sometimes you'll have to reload your save right before the boss and try again in hopes of having your party members actually act properly lol.
Just install the controllable party mod and you're good to go.
Hey Crimson, well done! maybe someday I will catch to you lol Great list also, I would add games like, Etrian Odyssey, Pokémon Conquest and the Rune Factory :)

@@GalaxyJakeYT tbh i actually just started that a bit ago, fun game so far!

@ that was honestly really cool! Really liked the wright knight story so im curious about whats next.
@ if you ever get a chance to try the multiplayer as well it’s really cool, you just need someone else with a DS and a copy of the game

Square never learn their lessons 😒 "How many times do we have to teach you this lesson?Old man"
@@Sonicman4155 tbh i kind of get it at least with versus After 6 years of trying to fund a game that didn’t have a proper vision id be done with it as well. Im not thrilled it was cancelled but i also kinda understand why
if you break the orb all of the following is implied to be a possibility: 1. He world could cease to exist 2. You will get stuck in flow of time forever 3. This timeline is destroyed 4. This timeline caries on but just without you 5. It sends you back in time, do you take over your previous mind, is there just another you running around. Extremely vague. The idea is that “there is a possibility so therefore the Luminary will take the chance to save their friend” the problem is “you will get stuck in flow of time forever” is one out of 5 possible outcomes and the other 3 are all world ending problems. Because it’s Dragon Quest and it’s a game I knew 5 was going to be what happens. In context of the story this is total nonsense. Everyone acts like only 2 and 5 are the possibility but the dialog clearly stated by the guardian that all five of those are possibilities. Then there is what actually happens in game for the time travel. It changes its rules to suit the narrative. One of the key issues when you find out who the guardian is, it’s Serenica which doesn’t make sense. Since we know that Veronica and Serena are not only her reincarnation, but she is also their ancestor. It’s also implied that she didn’t have a child with Erdwin. If you pay attention this can cause the player to go “but if you are here who are their ancestors moment.” Instead of doing the smart thing of pointing out history can be wrong the game decides to change how time travel works to fix this mistake. Here’s how time travel works, you break the orb it sends your soul back in time to take over your body at the last orb save point. This timeline in its entirety is destroyed. Causing fragments fo memories of everyone from that timeline to spill out into the past. Over time some people will remember the lives they have others will not, and some through magic can immediately remember the time that didn’t exist. This is honestly an okay thing, does it undermine the narrative of the first two arcs, yes but this function of time travel has an actual good ending. Then the Serenica scene happens. Serenica gets restored, gets given the power of the luminary, and breaks the orb. And… nothing happens, this was so confusing people though she ended up lost in time. But no, the developers confirmed in an AMA that it’s a closed loop and she destroyed Calasmos in other words. No, the other timeline isn’t gone. You just left it a smoldering ruin and ran away. I want to point out that regardless of what time travel is cannon the moment the Luminary found out Calasmos hitched a ride on him. He should have just broken the orb again locking it away in a dead timeline.
Dope review. Whenever i think about how different KH3 could’ve been with 0.2 BBS as the prologue. It reminds me of what square did with roxas in KH2. Would be cool to get something similar to that in the future of the series

Great video, if/when we do get another Metaphor Refantazio game, I do hope we get a ramp up on the Action style of gaming. I was surprised that there wasn’t a single boss fight that didn’t have us fighting the enemy first before getting into the Combat. I think having a good balance between the two aspects of a game like this would make what is already an excellent game EVEN better.
@@TheJaredPunch honestly that did kinda take me by surprise. Im guessing that programming overworld boss patterns is probably more time consuming thrn they wanted it to be so they just skipped it
@ this is Atlus’s first time going for an Action RPG mixed with the usual turn based RPG. So it doesn’t bother me that much that the action combat is lacking. It’s just something they’re going to have to improve on with they want to make a game like this again.
@@TheJaredPunch same, im hoping they take a few notes from games like trails through daybreak in oushing it to be more seejmless while mixing in the same style they always have
