I love reading cozy, wholesome, and mostly drama free books. I'll be featuring mainly vintage or historical books with a few non-fiction or contemporary books making their way in as well. I am a highly sensitive person which means I am incredibly selective about the books that I will read. If something is stressful or violent or overly drama filled, it messes with my mental health which is not a good thing! I hope you'll enjoy hearing all about comforting, old-fashioned books!

I loved Mrs. Mike!!
Late to your channel and a new subscriber. I, too, adore Betty Neels, and it's fun to find another reader who loves her. Like you, a prefer the "nice" guys rather than the arrogant ones, so would really find it helpful to get a list of the books where that's the case, or even your favorite ones. Maybe another video? Thanks.
I am a huge Betty Neels fan! They were the first Harlequin/Mills & Boon books I read. About 20 years ago I made it a point to collect every one of her books, and I still have them!
Thank you for the recommendation! I DID read it! My library was able to get it for me, but took awhile. EXCELLENT!! I got a list of ALL those bks. and hope to be able to get more😊😊
Loved you video! I envy you having just discovered Betty - you have so many delightful books to discover! I saw a link to your video on a Facebook group dedicated to Betty Neels called The Uncrushable Jersey Dress which grew out a website of the same name run by sisters who are BN fans. Yes, Betty was a nurse specifically during WWII. Her future husband was an injured Dutch soldier that she met while nursing, although he wasn’t a doctor himself. I’ve been reading BN for almost 5 decades - I found one of her books in a box in my granny’s closet with other Harlequins.
Oh my goodness! That makes it even better! I want a story of Betty Neels' romance. And I do feel so grateful for the number of books she wrote. Even though I've read a good many at this point, I still have a long way to go before I will have read them all!
That edition of The Christmas Mouse is so adorable. I am a big Miss Read, DE Stevenson, and Rosamunde Pilcher fan. Their books are so cozy!
Yes!! They are so good! I'm hoping 2025 will be my deep dive into Rosamund Pilcher! I know I'll like her books, but I just haven't made enough time to read them.
Hi Emily, I don’t often write comments, but just wanted to tell you that I LOVE your channel. Our reading tastes are very similar, and I always want to add every book you mention to my TBR list. I especially enjoyed baby making an appearance and how you look so happy and natural in your motherhood journey ❤
Thank you so much!! This was such a lovely, sweet comment to see. I'm so glad you have been enjoying my videos. There is nothing quite like finding fellow bookish friends. ❤️❤️
Presently re-reading Winter Solstice. You HAVE to read it!! Marry Christmas to you and you family. ADORABLE baby!!🎄
Hi Eileen!!
I loved Mrs Mike!! I've read it several times and always really enjoy it. Love your videos! Merry Christmas!!!! 🎄⛄
Mrs. Mike sounds amazing!
Did you knit your sweater? It's lovely!
I did! Thank you so much! I've been wearing it a ton this autumn/winter. Definitely one of my favorites!
To date myself, I actually read Betty Neels when she was still writing books and still enjoy rereading her. As a recommendation, if you can find her, try Charlotte MacLeod. She was a Canadian mystery writer and her books are full of quirky characters and cozy vibes. I reread two of hers every Christmas, Rest You Merry and Murder Goes Mumming.
I was able to find some Charlotte Macleod books at my library and I'm excited to give them a try. Thank you for the recommendation!!
@@woldenburnreads You are very welcome. I hope you enjoy them. I think Charlotte got a lot of fun out of writing them.
Adding Before I saw You to my TBR! Also, my daughter had that same puppy pyjama when she was a newborn and seeing your little one gave me all the memories 😍 so sweet!
Yay! I hope you love it as much as I did! And thank you! They were some hand me downs from my sister's boys and I think they're just about the cutest little jammies 🤭
Put Before I Saw You on hold! 😮♥️
I am reading my first Betty Neels and am loving it! It’s her wedding duology: A Christmas Proposal and Winter Wedding.
I think that was one of the first ones I read. I'm so glad you're enjoying it!! I've still been reading several of her books throughout December. They're just so cozy and simple!
Love your channel! I too like to treat myself to the library book sales. My library has just opened a year round book sale area!! I just read King of the Wind over the summer and loved it.❤
New Subscriber
YES to "Texas Destiny"! If you haven't read it, Heath's "A Promise to Remember" won the RITA many years ago and is a unique and special book. It's hard to read in places, dealing as it does with war and cowardice/conscientious objection, but I wish she wrote more books like it. I get that these days it's easier to sell Regency-set historicals...but I am TIRED of those (unless Carla Kelly writes them 😉). Thank you for another lovely video. 💚
Never heard of Betty Neels, but sounds like the perfect sort of thing for you right now in this season. There are definitely times when you just need brainless comfort reads!
Great list, I looooooved Woman in White 🤩 Added few recommendations on my list. Such a lovely video, happy I came across the channel, thank you ☺
I just finished a book I KNOW you will LOVE! It is one of my favorite bks. of the year! I gave it 5 stars. The Little Village School by Gervase Phinn. Jenn Reads recommended it some time ago. Don't know if you'll find on Kindle. A MUST read 🤗
I just finished a book I KNOW you would LOVE. It is one of my favorites of the year! The Little Village School by Gervase Phinn. Jenn Reads recommended it a while ago. Don't know if you'll find on Kindle. You have to read this!!
I agree completely with your assessment of Betty Neels. I enjoy them, too, but don’t love the ‘cold shoulder’ trope.
Cruella’s car! 😂😍
Now I really want to read Neels since I am in such a busy season
Have you read any Cameron Dokey fairytale retellings? They are lovely!
No, I haven't heard of those. I'm going to go look them up because I LOVE a good fairytale retelling!
I’ve enjoyed Laura Frantz lately. I’d love to hear what you think her book, The Lacemaker! 😄♥️
Ooh! My mother-in-law has mentioned her before and how much she loves Laura Frantz 's books
I always enjoy your videos! I'm a librarian, and believe me, librarians love helping people find books, so don't hesitate to ask for help at the library. I went on a Betty Neels kick for a little while earlier this year, and I have a good stash ready for when I want to dive in again. There is a blog called The Uncrushable Jersey Dress where they talk about all things Betty Neel. They even have a spreadsheet of the books with rankings, and list out the man's profession, the women's profession, what car he drive, the pets in the story, and what time of love story it is, for example a marriage of convenience, etc. It's fun to look through. it helped me decide which ones I wanted to read. I don't mind the doctor/nurse thing, but it got old to me. I've been reading a lot of nonfiction, mostly books about books and reading. I also just started a Elizabeth Goudge book.
THANK YOU for that blog tip. Love from London 💙❤🤍
Thank you so much for recommending that blog!! I had so much fun perusing it and looking at the spreadsheet. It is absolutely amazing! I think it is so brilliant that there is a whole group of people that also love Betty Neels' books and I had no idea she existed until a few months ago.
Yay a new video! Your baby is such a cutie! Despite the lukewarm review I want to try Fairest of Heart, because I love fairy tale retellings. I do find they are often too dark, so a bit too light doesn't sound bad to me. About "lion feathers", being a swear word, I immediately thought of Amy saying "Oh feathers", in Little Women. I can't think of why feathers would be negative, but I guess it was the slang of the late 1800's.
I love fairy tale retellings too! I hope you enjoy it! It definitely wasn't all bad. What are some of your favorite fairy tale retellings? I'm always looking for more recommendations!
@@woldenburnreads Alix E. Harrow's A Spindle Splintered, and A Mirror Mended are excellent (hopefully more to come but the wait has been long). The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaimon is good. I've read all of Gregory Maguire's retellings and as much as I loved Wicked, his writing makes my head tired. Funny, I thought this list was longer but I think in my head I was including things like Matt Haig's Christmas series (SO sweet and cute), and Fairy Tale by Stephen King (not scary, actually magical) both of which are Fairy tales, but not retellings. :)
Joined your channel. Your Reviews and comments on books very well. We make review videos on simple Urdu literature books from Pakistan. Hope you like our work. Love and best wishes to you. from: Nadeem Rehman Malik
instead of saying 'but it was only a dollar' you should say 'but it's for a good purpose- helping the library'!
That's true!
I love Miss Read!!
Hi, Emily - I've watched your videos before, but I've never commented. Great book haul!
Thank you!! I'm so glad you are here!
❤❤❤
Some fantastic finds! I really want to read 84 Charing Cross Road.
It was such a quick read for me since most of the letters are fairly short. I really enjoyed it. I think I need to give it a re-read soon!
I read Tisha and loved it. Hope you will like it as well.
You'll never read a better version of Arthur than Mary Stewart's. You won't be able to put it down all 3 of them
I can't wait to get to them!
You sure got some good bks. there! My library and alot of others in this area, don't have the once or twice a yr. Library Book Sale anymore. What the do is they have a room to SELL the discarded bks. year round. The price is $1 per bag! You can't beat that!! If you don't buy a full bag; adult h.c. are 25¢,any paperback is 15 or 20¢, ALL children's are 10¢. C's DVD's are 25¢. Just last week I was in there and hit the jackpot! As I was browsing a GOOD selection of children's bks., the librarian came in at different times w/ cart loads of bks. to put out!!!😁😂 I left with 2 bag fulls.(bags are the size of a plastic grocery bag). $2 for 18-20 bks.!! I love Mary Stewart also. I have all the bks you mentioned BUT all old, not very good condition paperbacks😐 Rose Cottage I have in h.c. and Madam Will You Talk is h.c. EXCELLENT condition. Looking forward to your next video😊 Thanks.
Macdonald wrote lots of novels. They’re updated for the language by Michael Phillips… but it doesn’t detract from the true novels 🥰
So fun! I also went to our fall Friends of the Library book sale this weekend and I got a copy of 84 Charing Cross Road!
Hvg u read any of Dorothy sayers?
Yes! I read most of her books last year and really enjoyed them
@@woldenburnreads just wondering… I was trying to find her short stories… but when I googled, it only shows whimsy series…?? Do u know of these?
I am so jealous of those hardcover Mary Stewart’s! 😍 The Crystal Cave is the first in the Merlin series (you got all of them which is lovely!). And I think you will adore James Herriot when you finally read him. They are so cozy and sweet and funny.
I love her Merlin series!
@@jamiebraziel3190 me too!
I was so excited to see them! I've been wanting to read some more Mary Stewart but the only way I can get them is by having physical copies. And yes! I looked up the books after I filmed this and was so happy to realize they were all from the Merlin series!
The 1901 Frances Hodgson Burnett vintage book....what a wonderful find! I’m trying Mary Stewart very soon also. Thanks for the lovely video.
Yeah, a super find. And for only one dollar? Maybe you pay more for vintage books.
Great finds!
Tisha is a wonderful book!!
Oh, I'm glad to hear that! It sounded exactly like something I would like.
Such beautiful books you found at your library sale!! I have that same copy of Rose Cottage and was the 1st Mary Stewart book I read - enjoyed it!
What a great haul! I need to read some Mary Stewart 😊
Aww baby sounds so happy! I have had such a slow reading month thanks for the inspiration to read more.
Thank you Emily and Baby! I'm going to be starting several Betty Neels books, after I finish a Patricia Wentworth. I love 84 Charing Cross road! I'm not fond of very many movie adaptations, but Anne Bancroft was genius brilliant as Helene! Oh, and I buy every Miss Read I've seen since I was young --long ago!
Hello! You mentioned that you knit. I was recently out and a child about age 6 saw the book in my purse and must have assumed I had more in there "Why do you have so many books?" He asked. Well, I love to read! Then he said, "Oh, do you also knit?" 😂
Oh how cute! And so funny! I definitely do both knitting and reading and usually at the same time.
