    Gina Stanyer also "got me into Rosamunde Pilcher. The first one I read was Winter Solstice, FANTASTIC! Gina spoke about it SOOO often. I found it at a library sale (hardcover) for 25¢. I am trying to collect all her bks. Some I bought brand new. I plan to read The Shell Seekers this summer. I am presently in a rehab after surgery (unexpected). I brought The Blue Bedroom in w/ me. It is a collection of Pitcher's short stories. Oh my! Soooo good. There hasn't been one I didn't like. 13 altogether. Did you know she has a son Robin who writes? Haven't read any of his yet. I read that Gladys Tabor bk. many,many yrs. ago. LOVE Potatoe Peel Pie! A few times I went back and just read some of the letters. Really enjoy epistolary bks. I'm a letter writer myself (pen and paper, NOT text). Also collect children's books. Very fussy about the illustrator. Tasha Tudor, Eloise Wilkins, Garth Brooks, Jan Brett some of my faves. I have a small collection of original L.G. Books most illustrated by Eloise Wilkins Baby Dear, My Book About God,etc. I totally agree w/ your statement about modern children's lit. Very sad. Sounds like we have similar tastes and opinions. I am enjoying alot of older women authors I never read (Gina). Have renewed my interest in Angela Thirlkell. Had some of her bks. A very long time ago and lost them😑 Never forgot them so Re-bought 3 recently because the library couldn't get them. Well, rambled on enough, that's what happens talking about bks! Enjoyed very much, thanks!

    I have that D. E. Stevenson trilogy waiting for me on my shelf. I have been reading a bunch of her other ones that are on kindle unlimited right now. I like how characters from her other books make appearances in her books. I have read one Molly Clavering, "Susan Settles Down", and it was so lovely. The way she describes the setting is gorgeous. Makes me think of L. M. Montgomery's descriptive writing. After that book, I have bought many more and they, too, are waiting on my shelf. I just read the first Alleyn novel, and I really enjoyed it. I enjoy you. You are a lovely young woman with convictions and I applaud that in today's " book tube world" or "reader world". I also felt Enchanted April ended rather abruptly and I will also re-read it next Spring. I did enjoy it. I love Jen's channel. She certainly does recommend good bks. I have pgs. and pgs.of her recs.I love Miranda Mills also. She had a new, very fun one today about her favorite recent items. Have you ever read any of Rosamunde Pilcher's bks? She has become one of my favorite authors and I am trying to collect all her bks. Gina Stanyer got me into her. She mentioned her soooo often and especially Winter Solstice, that I had to read it last yr. Oh my!!!! FANTASTIC!! There is a series I am reading, not straight through (my library doesn't have many of them) and that is The Cottage Tales Of Beatrix Potter by Susan Wittig Albert. She writes lots of " cozy mysteries"? which I've never read, but when I saw the first one on the shelf, had to borrow it! Can get a little bit boring, but I enjoy them. Gives little bits of her life also, which is one reason I enjoy them. I have a biography about her. Thank you and take good care of yourself! 🤗

    I just read the "Dering Family Trilogy" (Vittoria Cottage/Music in the Hills/Winter & Rough Weather) in April & May as well. I LOVED Mamie and Jock--two of Stevenson's very best characters. What comes through loud and clear is Stevenson's love of the Scottish landscape, country life and her love of language. I agree that, especially in the last book (aka "Shoulder the Sky"), the "secret" sub-plot was pretty easy to figure out. The one thing that bothers me about her books is that she invariably has one or two characters who are just complete bad apples--they are rotten to the core. If only she would have a "bad" character who has some redeeming qualities or actually shows some growth/change over time. Even Scrooge comes around at the end of A Christmas Carol🤣 I'll keep reading her books, though, to get that wonderful Scottish vibe. I've been reading them in publication order, so I still have a lot left to read. In the Miss Buncle series, I liked Miss Buncle's Book and The Two Mrs. Abbots the best. Other good ones are Celia's House, Listening Valley, and the Mrs Tim books.

    I stopped after book 2 on Patricia Moyes Henry Tibbett because your video at that time gave a warming LOL! (and yep turns out I was right to stop!) just finished listening to Miss Buncle's Book maybe a week ago and last night finished The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifx (it was good but so unrealistic- I was about to bite my nails off listening to it LOL thinking of how awful it wouldn've been in real life). also read a trilogy by Pepper Basham about Izzy, Penelope, and Luke _ I wanted Luke's story but 'had' to read the other 2 and I liked them but Luke's book and their issue I just wanted to shake them! it's written with a lot of texts/emails and on kindle the texes were lighter print and that bothered me a bit but cute and light and 'christian' though not a whole lot of church - if any LOL! also read The bookish Life of Nina hill by Abbi Waxman (not a clean book but too explicit for all that's going on and I enjoyed it but realized someone mentioned that's in another book so now I'm reading that person's story in The Garden of Small Beginnings. And an ebook I bought on Jen's rcomenndation or rather an author she recommended - laurie colwin - A big Storm Knocked it Over - i've picked it up off and on - it's ok but I'm afraid she's gonna have an affair and I don't want that LOL! it's good enough to keep my interest off and on. April and early may ahd louse penny's books 2-4 I think and Anita Davison's 2 british mysteries and Mr Finchley discovers his england and Susan Hill's jacob's room is full of books (even more added to my kindle and tbr)! and 2 Henry Tibbett myteries but was reading the 2nd when you gave the heads up about book 3 and I had already seen a bit of tha tin book 2... Ireally need more time to read and better vision LOL!

      I do agree that some aspects of the Mrs. Pollifax books are a bit unrealistic, but I think that helps me enjoy them more because I don't have to stress about what is happening as much. I came over to your channel at a recommendation from Jen at Jen's Reading Life because she said you felt the same as I do about Me Before You. And she was right! I was nodding along to not only your opinion on that one, but also your opinion on so many of the other books you mentioned! Looking forward to watching more of your videos! 😊

    I have purchased many of your recommendations... thank you so much. I have one that stick out from my younger years and I re-read it recently, "Calico Captive", I think I was in about 6th grade (I'm now 73 yrs. young). The other I have read several times and given it as gifts .. it is 'Eat Cake'. Love a good read and as do a good knit or crochet. Hugs to you.

      Oh! That's such a good idea! I hadn't thought of doing videos about picture books, but I could see that being absolutely loads of fun. I LOVE good children's books and have been collecting them for years since well before having little ones of my own. I'll have to give it some thought and see what I can come up with. It would be a good series! ❤️🥰

    I recently discovered D E Stevenson myself and I am in LOVE!!! I have NO IDEA how I missed Betsy Tacy series as a kid but also heard about it on Kate Howe channel ( have you watched her? I think you would love her she is such a delight) I sped through the whole series in no time! The Enchanted Barn is my favorite Grace Livingston Hill. Ooooooo I haven't read the blue Castle either but I have it on my shelf. What a beautiful edition...hmmmm might have to pick it up.

      I just heard about Kate's channel a couple weeks ago when someone mentioned her in one of the comments on a previous video. I'm hoping to watch some of her videos soon because I've looked at her channel and it seems like we would have very similar tastes! I'll add The Enchanted Barn to my list to read after this one! Grace Livingston Hill sounds like an author I could fall in love with so I'm really glad to have one of her books to try.

I really cannot wait to read the rest of the Betsy-Tacy books! ❤️❤️ They were truly such favorites of mine growing up and I don't know why it has taken me so long to get to them.

    Enchanted April or Hester is my next book to read. Do you worry about bed bugs when you buy books from resale ( Goodwill, Salv.Army) or even library sales? I've been hearing terrible stories lately. Enjoyed, thanks.

    • @woldenburnreads
      @woldenburnreads 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally have never had any issues with that and it didn't even cross my mind until recently when I was watching another youtuber and they mentioned something about one of their secondhand books being kind of gross with dead bugs in it. To be fair, I am also a little lazy when it comes to putting new book purchases away so sometimes they will sit on their own in the plastic shopping bag for a week or two so I don't know if that has made any difference. 🤭 All the books I do buy secondhand I make sure are in a nicer condition and I will usually flip through a book before purchasing it to make sure it looks good.

    I, too, want to read the Blue Castle. I am currently reading Susan Settles Down by Molly Clavering and am really enjoying it. The library district that I work for has a big sale twice a year, and I just went to the spring one last weekend. I bought a few Ngaio Marsh books. Do you recommend reading them in order, because I didn't find the first one at the sale?

    • @woldenburnreads
      @woldenburnreads 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooh! I've been really curious about Molly Clavering because I've seen her recommended as being similar to Susan Scarlett, D. E. Stevenson, etc. I'll have to see if I can get one of her books to try out. I personally would recommend reading the Ngaio Marsh books in order just because there are references in some of the books to events in the previous books in the series. That being said, I don't think it would be confusing to read them out of order. Each book is fairly "individual" and there haven't been any parts where it would have been confusing if you hadn't read the other books. There have been a few times where I read one or two books ahead because the next one in the lineup wasn't available yet and I never had any issues with that.
