The Guernsey Literary and Potatoe... is one of the best bks. I've ever read. Sometimes I go back and just read the letters. I LOVE epistolary bks. If you haven't read 84 Charring Cross Rd. by Helene Hanff, you HAVE to! A classic. I did not care for the movie, Guernsey... Also like the original cover that I have and you also, compared to the new one. I LOVE Wuthering Heights (I know alot of people don't) and I collect different editions of it. I will have to read jelly Dean. Thanks for the recommendations. CONGRATULATIONS on your sweet baby boy!!
What a great list! I've never read Victoria Holt but I definitely need to based on your description. Nelly Dean also sounds so intriguing and perfect Victober adjacent reading.
great suggestions! I think you would love the works of Booth Tarkington. They are a bit hard to find, as he was much more popular during his life, but they are classic works and so cozy. You can typically find first editions in library sales. His heroines are similar to Jo March, Mariane Dashwood, Emma Woodhouse....imperfect, but hopeful, honest, plucky, and capable of growth. Claire Ambler, The Flirt, Women, Alice Adams, Image of Josephine, Presenting Lily Mars are great ones to start. Beasley's Christmas Party is an annual holiday read, and always restores my faith in the goodness of people.
I haven't heard of him! I'll definitely have to try to find some because they do sound just like the sort of things I would love to read. Thank you so much for the suggestion!
A Little Princess is also on my list of books to read soon. I love the Shirley Temple movie adaptation. I hadn't heard of Nelly Dean but it I enjoyed Wuthering Heights and love the concept of the story from the house keepers perspective. Great video!
Just found your channel and we seem to have similar book tastes. Oh, I read Brides of Pendoric by Victoria Holt earlier this month. It was pretty much a retelling of Rebecca. I did like Mistress of Melyn better though. I also really liked Mr. Knightley. Have you read her book The Austen Escape. It’s my favorite of her books. I’m very much a cozy, gothic, wholesome, vintage reader. Persuasion is my fave Austen as well. Loved your selections!
Great list, I looooooved Woman in White 🤩 Added few recommendations on my list. Such a lovely video, happy I came across the channel, thank you ☺
