    You're an excellent teacher, Mr. Mig! You have really helped me understand airspace. I just have a couple of questions: 1. How does one know where they are physically on the map, in correlation to the airspace identification markings on the map? I mean, there are no land markings such as streets. 2. How does one even contact ATC? I'm sure I'll have many more questions after I watch more of your videos and gain a better understanding of aviation.

    Hello. Can someone please help me. I have my test tomorrow and have a question that seems to be impossible to find. It seems like it might not be too important but its driving me crazy. As seen at 7:30, what is the blue line that circle around the outside of the class D airspace? The circle that has 3, 6, 9, 12 etc listed all around. Please let me know guys, thanks.

    California here. I just took my exam yesterday and passed. While taking the exam I was surprised to see a pretty even split between sectional charts and regulation/codes. Thankfully, using Mr. Mig's videos made me very confident in reading sectional charts and airspace classes (this was really difficult for me in the beginning). Thank you Mr. Migs for making concise, easy to digest videos! However, I had a handful of questions on my exam that were not in the FAA study guide nor in any of the countless TH-cam videos I watched. These questions were related to regulations and codes that I never had a chance to read about (I studied for about 3 weeks before taking the exam, using the official FAA study guide, and a few TH-cam study guides). I suggest going to faa.gov/training_testing/testing/acs and reading up/getting familiar with these codes, because that's what stumped me quite a bit on my exam.

    My understanding is that as a remote pilots, you can fly in class E airspace without ATC approval, so long as that airspace does not extend to an airport. So, if you have a 700’ AGL class E surrounding a class D airspace including an airport, you could fly into that class E airspace to inspect a structure (assuming structure is over 300’ tall). Similarly, there are frequently 0’ AGL class E airspaces adjacent to a class D airspace, which you can fly in without ATC approval. If the class D airspace becomes class E when the tower closes, I’m not sure, but you may no longer be allowed to fly without approval because the class E now extends to include the airport. Complicated.

    Around 24:04, the thing for public operations is that they’re done under a COA given to a governmental/similar body rather than part 107. You still need some kind of non-recreational approval to do search missions.

  • @BenjaminManns
    @BenjaminManns 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Heads up around 6:20, I believe for part 107 remote pilots, all drones require registration. So, even if your drone is under 0.55lbs/250g, you still need to register them, which also means you need remote ID.

    Hello, you had mentioned later in this video that all airspaces are defined as MSL, with the exception of E/Echo airspace, but in this graphic at 5:08, which is a great graphic, it all says AGL? I thought maybe the AGL referred to the Class G airspace, but in that first 'cone' to the left, it shows Class G but uses MSL. Can anyone please explain? Thank you!

    Thanks for the video. It’s quite helpful. However, I’m finding a lot of videos made by people who know their stuff but maybe don’t remember what it was like to NOT know their stuff. It would be cool if a noob and a pro sat down to make these. As the noob, I would suggest: Class A = Avoid Airliners Class B = Blue line Class C = Cherry line (easy to associate with magenta) Class D = Dashed line Class E = Elderberry, Everyone Class G = Ground (That admittingly falls apart a bit as the Serious airports (A,B) are Solid and the Downsized airports are Dashed (C,D) Class E is a bit confusing as a noob because it's supposed to be for everyone (right? I hope that's right) but it's also marked for class E airports. Then for the heights, use “10 hundred” to represent 1,000 because, yeah, dropping 2 zeros makes no sense. Also more definition on things like “mean” in relation to height. That is pretty confusing early on. I’m sure there’s a reason they don’t just say SL and GL but that’s never really explained anywhere. Probably somewhere but not in any of the videos I’ve watched. Another thing I’ve not seen anyone do is to use a sectional with NO markings then just turn on the layer for obstructions or the layer for airspace radii (plural radius?) or just terrain. That would be incredibly helpful because, yeah, those maps are nuts.

    Midway through video, you use raleigh as a class-C example. You point out that we can fly outside the 5 mile central controlled airspace while being underneath the upper 1700-4400 controlled class-C airspace. However, aren't there three Class-E extension airspace areas from the surface to 18,000?

    Many thanks for these videos. A couple feedback points from my exam today. I am a retired airline pilot who just wants to fly a drone around for fun, but I really needed to get back in the books to get the Part 107 stamp of approval. Not looking at this as a paying gig. Although I have an ATP and more than a few hours under the belt (military plus civilian), almost none of it was General Aviation flying. If I had ever looked at a sectional it was decades ago at best so your airspace reviews were critical. I scored a 93% which is a bit frustrating as I thought I only missed two and not four. The first one is when load factors start to become a factor. I chose 30 degrees of bank, but the answer is most likely the answer is 45. For some reason 30 was something from the past and in transport flying one usually sticks to 30 degrees max. The other option was 15 degrees which obviously is not correct. The second one had to with base of the Class B airspace floor above the Hicks airport (West of DFW) on the Dallas sectional. I was working from the chart in the notebook provided and quickly realized I should have brought a magnifying glass as what a jumble that area is! I said it is was 4000 MSL, but I could not see all the lines with just my reading glasses. Not an excuse, but that field is REALLY nestled in among a lot of other airspace pieces and I simply could not see some of the solid blue lines denoting Class B. Had this been an oral exam I would have told the examiner that I would simply look in the Chart Supplement. Not sure though if it would tell me the base of the Class B there. It was an educated guess. Should you have an answer I would like to hear it as I was not 100% certain. The third one had to do with the kind of airspace I was in 3NM southwest from an airport which, if I recall correctly, was called Jamestown. I used the scale and marked three NM from the center of the field. It fell EXACTLY on the line between two airspace sectors. They must have measured this thing with a micrometer--perhaps even down to an Angstrom or two. Again, if it were an oral I would have pointed out my thinking and taken the most conservative route (no pun intended). I understand the FAA wants you to know the airspace, but this is just being obtuse and provides no real learning. At least make is a 1/4 mile inside or outside the line. Do you have an answer to this one? The fourth one had to do with category 3 and 4 drones at night over people. Huh? The question was poorly worded and the answers were almost worse. I think what they were getting at had to deal with the rules at night for flying over people, but one of the answers was something about the performance being the same at night. I think the third answer had something that didn't ring true to me--that the rules are different at night over people. Well... you need a strobe at night but what people? The crew of a pre-briefed film team or your local football game? This one was frustrating as again, an examiner could have clarified the meaning but alas, these are FAA written exams and not orals. Sorry I can't remember the details of this one, but if you have seen it please post it as everyone should know what the FAA might be getting at here. I was actually hoping for some more meaty METAR and TAF exercises and these can be fun to decode, but these were really quite easy. The human factors were also extremely easy. Overall a VERY sectional heavy exam which is probably good in that drone pilots need to have a good awareness of where they are flying. You can definately see what the FAA is emphasizing. One takeaway from my study is an undercurrent of an attitude among some (not all of course and maybe not even many) of "why do I need this?" and "why is this stuff important?" Well, I called a current 777 Captain on my drive home. He was been doing this for 40 years--Army rotary wing aviator, current glider instructor, and now flying as a 777 skipper and we agreed that we never once have met anyone who takes a serious attitude toward aviation who does not see the need to know more. Curiosity is the hallmark of a good aviator. As my score reflects, I still have a good deal to learn. I guess I am getting old when I think that you can be a licensed drone pilot without ever even having take a drone out of the box. Thank you again for these videos. You might wish to categorize them all under one heading. One last thing. Couldn't read the latitude line near the Wabash (Is that what it is called?), but it was pretty obvious as the one above it was 48N so you knew the designated area was somewhere in the 47N range. Also a question about what you should do flying through a MOA.
