Thanks for the info. Great video
Could you do a video on winterization?
Thank you for doing the video. I've noticed in a lot of the Facebook groups people are using Harbor Freight or other cheap gauges and getting inaccurately low results. Just today somebody had an engine with 90/90 using a Harbor Freight gauge. So using an accurate gauge is very important. If an engine has bad compression very often one cylinder is a lot lower than the other. So you wouldn't want to pull an engine to rebuild the top end based solely off one compression test. A fully charged battery is important too.
twice the size of a 550, its almost a boat!
What I appreciate about John making these videos for us is the fact that he’s not profiting from slowing down his day and filming/editing these videos. He’s actually giving more and more to the community of riders, and future riders by making all of these wonderful videos for us.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the kind words.
Good stuff. Hard to find good in detail PWC repair and maintenance info, keep em coming.
Think I heard Chris Fischetti name drop you in that Ride By Day Wrench By Night podcast from VintageJetSki the other day. Always helpful dude!
It’s a shame that guy running that site decided to turn in to a low life scammer. I want to buy the domain from him
Keep making videos we love them, more builds and how tos and what not they are all good! Keep rocking!
Thank you
The man, the myth, the legend.
lol.....
Nice video!!! I always do mine with the throttle open but both plugs out. So when you do it and leave the plug/s in do you leave the wires on the plugs that are in the head or ground them put somewhere else? My skis will run on one cylinder 😂
Thanks for watching. On a traditional 2-stroke, When "I" do it normally, I leave a plug in, and I do ground both wires while testing to protect the CDI. I do not ground the plug in the cly for fear of it starting on one cyl. I use an extra plug in the boot, and ground it to the head. OR on Kawi's they have plug wire grounding posts.
@watercrafttalk2738 ok awesome I will try that when I get home amd see!!! Keep up the great work my friend and have a blessed weekend
@@watercrafttalk2738 I would think it should turn over more easily with the spark plug(s) removed because the starter doesn't have the resistance of compression. But you just showed us it spins faster with the spark plug in! I'm totally baffled why this is the case! Any ideas?
@@AtimatikArmy Compression on the down stroke.
@@watercrafttalk2738 Wouldn't the down stroke be less compression than the upstroke where the firing event takes place? Anyway, I saw it spin over faster in your video with the plugs in, so I can't deny that. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my brain around it!
What does it mean if my carb wont hold any pressure on the pop off test? It just constantly drops pressure
Thanks for watching. Sounds like you have a bad / leaking needle and seat
Thanks, I seen "pop off " mentioned on a FB group and was totally lost. Now that is out of the way, will visit your site as I will need parts here shortly. I have a Franken Jon and most likely will have to modify the carb to get more bottom end. 61 x is what I am installing as my 62 g and other 61 bit the bullets.
thanks for watching
Can't find any place like this in the northeast.
Im pretty sure this just happened to my x2 also the motor wouldnt rev past 50% throttle and batteries not charging so im assuming the stator is dead.
I never heard of squish but on 4 strokes its called quench
Off topic… did you end up getting any numbers on that 2023 EX? You had mentioned a possible 5 mph gain. Did you end up getting a wrap on it as well? I have a 2020 and I don’t like the black top deck. Just wondering how a wrap will actually hold up over time..
🇦🇺🙂
Had never heard of that before this video
Best video of all loved it 👍🏾💯🙏
Thanks for watching
Hi new the the channel but really like the video u make for ppl and educating us about all the different type of jet ski, I would like to see of a video of a fully built 1988 js550
So on 2012 they're are 3 holes for steering angle but yamaha says only 2 can be used. Why can't the outer most one be used? Is it due to cable bottom out? And this may be wrong video but looking at trimming it. It looks like it has a bolted trim tab. Can you manually trim the ski with that?
Thanks for watching, I believe the outer hole on the stock plate is not threaded. I also think "IF" you thread it, the cable will then bottom out before the steer stop causing cable damage.
I sure miss the Xtreme t- shirts . Youve got a classic hanging on the wall by the wetsuit .
Beeeuty build
love the content as always.
Thanks for watching!
Odd question, could you tell me what the pitch of the stock impeller is?
Wow, can't believe I never thought of this! Excellent tip!!
Later Bombardier service manuals explain this procedure since about 2001. I looked for the squish spec and couldn't find it though.
@@thisisyourcaptainspeaking2259 Interesting, cool. Thanks
Thanks John, I never saw that before
Is squish always .045 on all 2 strokes? I agree with lucievedl. You need to do another video and explain why you would do a squish test and the pit falls of too much or too little squish...and how to correct squish if it is out of spec...and what would cause incorrect squish in the first place? It is very important to know the proper way to do a test, but it is more important to know why you are doing the test in the first place. I am not trying to be overly critical, I just think this video left more open questions than it answered. Should I check all my old 2 strokes even if there are no performance mods on them?
Thanks for watching Dave. Yes I assumed people knew why to check squish. NO .045 is not correct on all 2- strokes. Squish goal will depend on may different factors, head dome design piston crown type, etc. I was just commenting that on THIS particular build, we were good.
Hi John , great video on how to measure squish ............ what's missing is WHY measuring squish ...............WHY is quish important to check ..................WHAT is squish do to your engine ...................WHAT can go wrong if you don't have the right squish ..................... in a few words getting more education on that word "SQUISH" ............ Best regards from Belgium.............JACK
Thanks Jack, maybe we need to do a follow up video
Thanks
Sorry it is hard to see as I get "off Camera" but when measuring please make sure you measure ONLY the very end of the soldier. Remember the squish band is tapered, and is at its thinnest out at the very edge. This is where you NEED to measure. You really should turn the calipers 90 degrees to the soldier.
Great timely video, a friend asked me how to check squish and I explained it to him, but this video is an excellent visual demonstration.
Thanks for watching
It looks great . Did you put new graphics on the ski ? What brand of tray / deck padding kit did you use ? Waay back in the day we bought this ski brand new for my wife. Wish we still had it but I do still have my 1986 550 all of these years later . Thx for anither video .
Thanks for watching!! I did not do graphics on this. Going by memory, I think they are original. Mats are Hydro turf.
Where are these skis??
Hello Andy, thank you for watching. The Kawi 750n was sold locally as is. I started to build the SJ, but got busy here, and it has been put off for now. I hope to do a build video if/when I finish the ski
So it would appear that you could run a 62t gasket with a 61x head b/c its so much more open. Just not the other way around.
We recommend using the correct matching gasket with head.
Buying one with 11 hours only freswater but owners wont let me test drive before buying due to our salt waters anything i need to know before purchasing ty
If they won't let you ride it, ask if they can ride it in front of you, and show you everything works as it should.
@watercrafttalk2738 I bought it and it's amazing they just didn't want salt was freshwater only
@@watercrafttalk2738 ty though
Can you out the 62T gasket on a 61x?
What gasket? most are different from the two engines.
Hello, thanks for your video. Can you help me choose the best one for my jetskit GTI SE 170 2023 thanks
Thanks for watching. Please reach out to me at my shop.
Hey great video. Learned a lot from it. I have a 61x (in a js550 hull) the water inlet line from pump comes into nipple on bottom of exhaust manifold, up through the water jackets in the exhaust manifold, through the cylinder, into the cylinder head, and then the port on top of the head… is that line supposed to go back to the bottom of the exhaust manifold next to that inlet nipple? Seems like it should be going into the exhaust pipe(maybe that nipple does?) thanks!
Thanks for watching. Yes, hose from the head goes to the pipe t feed water to exhaust.
i just got a new superjet and i love it so much
Is price still 25k +?
Ski has sold.
Hi John, Is it a good idea to fill a js550 handle pole with expanding foam? I noticed its empty with a drain hole at the bottom near the pivot. Thanks, Simon
Hello Simon, thanks for watching. I would not fill a handle pole with foam. No reason to
Awesome review
What boats did you use to race John? Im also into high perf boats, have a 100+ mph eagle one with a 15" 2.5L 200ff merc
Heyyy John!! I’m new to your channel. Thank you for all your really good and helpful content!

Soooo what’s the pop off psi asking for a friend 😉 J/k Thank you for the info
always great video , thanks for taking the time , always helpfull info's !! ( Best regards from Belgium ; jack )
Thanks Jack!
Another great video John. So, if one would want to run a different Kawi plate… should they also change out the cable as well, if so… what cable would one want to use?
Cables are specific to each hull. Jet pump, travel, etc.
Thanks for all of this good info . Extremely helpful...
