Thought of the day about having kids at work. Random moment that should be important to everyone. It's not everyday that you have a schedule that is kid friendly. When you do, take them with you. Installing tool box drawer liners in a field service truck!!!

I've had multiple trucks and many different ways of lining my drawers. This is what I've found to be the longest lasting liner. The difference between a field truck and a shop tool box is the environment. When you open the doors in the winter, your tools are always wet and many times put away greasy. When you're under the gun, the tools get cleaned later sometimes. Well your drawers take a beat...

    I’m going to take diesel mechanic classes at my community college in a few months but do you think that mechatronic classes will be needed eventually to be a mechanic since vehicles are going to be all electric in the future. Do you deal with electric vehicles right now?

    I’m a CAT dealer field mechanic, do not waste your money on school. You can get all the information completely free. You need the discipline and the curiosity to study on your own. Great mechanics don’t know every detail about every machine… they know how to utilize resources and their understanding of fundamental scientific principles to solve any problem.

      Do you deal with any electric trucks bro? Here in cali no more diesel trucks in 2035 I believe. I feel like school might be necessary in the future with these electric trucks. I need answers bro. Is mechatronic classes or computer classes necessary for the future

    • @Dcalvert92
      @Dcalvert92 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@crush9197 No diesel by 2035 is a pipe dream, it won’t happen. What is feasible and what we currently deal with are diesel engines coupled with generators and electric drive trains. These machines are too heavy and have too much power demand to be fully electric with batteries. The battery would have to be massive to operate a CAT 992 and the run time would be so low, it’s pointless. Electricity is one of the areas you absolutely need to master to become a mechanic. Again, I just don’t believe school is necessary. I’ve learned it all on the internet and doing it hands on.

    40 years in the business, I'm 75 now, retired: I pretty much avoided the rock quarry end of it. I worked in dirt. HRD/W. work smart,, way easy to be injured in this trade, many don't stay in it. fest and famine at times. It isn't a 9 to 5 operation. High rollers, go 24 24, The Company doesn't make money off the mechanic / welder , off the equipment that is producing the wanted product, that machine fails, and momma wont see a check if the old man isn't in the seat earning the wage that machine draws in. Bid jobs are tougher. I worked on pretty much everything thrown at us. A lot of the machinery of today, Cat didn't produce. Working in rock wasn't something they wanted to deal with, but all that is changed.

    John Chapter 3 1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. 12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? 13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Forestry roads are generally good. Plantation roads are not, often can't be accessed with larger truck, hence the Hilux.

    I'm now a retired heavy equipment mechanic. Years ago, when I had just started out, an old gentleman getting ready to retire taught me to work out of a tote tray setup like you have. The lesson served me well all of the years I worked. I was working at a Caterpiller dealer, and we had a big contractor with a big job going on. The contractor sent some of his mechanics to help on his equipment in our shop. This guy had a heavy-duty flat top box with a vice. It had two doors and two shelves. He had two tote trays that convently slipped on the shelf to lock up after hours. I had to ask about his simple setup. One tray had sockets, extensions, 3/8" air ratchet, and 1/2" impact. The other had wrenches on one end and assorted pliers, screwdrivers, and a few most common taps on the other end. Also, a hammer, some punches, and chizles were in the mix. His simple setup saved a lot of time opening drawers searching for the daily common use tools. Every time he laid a tool down, it went to its storage area in the tray. When he climbed on top of a machine, two trays with all he needed was at his fingertips. No climbing up and down forgetting this or that. Like I said, this has served me well for 43 years, and I still work out of trays.
