Hydraulic tech here. Used to be mostly Heavy Equipment, now more Industrial. My first grab for 3/8 ratchet is extendable flex head, I don’t even know the brand, but I bought it at Walmart for $29. That thing have snot worked out of it, and amazingly keep kicking arse! The one thing is - I am old and experienced enough so I don’t skin my knuckles and don’t brake my tools anymore. Do have couple of bend T handles though! 😁
I've got a bunch of the old flat style proto ratchets. Really thin handles for that pipe you never stick on them. They all are backwards levers. I like the Snap On flex head that you can lock or let it flop anywhere
I have a couple of Napa ratchets that I really like. The heads are a little bit large but they can take some torque. I also have an old Proto ratchet that is my go to. It's tougher than most breaker bars.
I like 1/4" swivel head ratchets, even the cushy grip ones. I have a tekton one and have been happy with it. Not usually pushing that hard on it so I haven't had an issue with breaking the handle off.
I’m a mobile guy as well, I work for a company on forklifts in Washington state and northern Oregon. I prefer snap on ratchets, and I have both a locking flex with the comfort grip and standard flex with the chrome handle. I go back and forth on which I prefer, generally the comfort grip if it’s in an easy spot or the standard if I have to reach way up into stuff
Awesome video! I also prefer the Snap-On ratchet. I don't have a Matco dealer, but I think of all the import stuff, the Carlyle ratchet is the closest to Snap-on stuff.
Good stuff. I like the snap on ratchets, only have one comfort grip left as they dont hold up. Been replacing them with the straight handles. I really like the long handled matco 1/2" I have on the freightliner, but the 3/8 drive long handle is not worth the money
Great video you covered a lot of great points I was thinking about getting a gear wrench set of ratchets and with your recommendation I think I’ll get a set
I dig wright grip wrenches 🔧 I wish S&K were still around (cause suddenly I can't get warranteed anymore) Icon makes decent impact sockets (something about the metal transfers shock energy very well) Personally i see that their ratches suck raw balls . I have Tekton crowsfoot sets (made in Michigan) and they're good . CORNWELL MAN , SCREWDRIVERS . MAYHEW PRYBARS , PROTO FOR SPLINE SOCKETS , LISLE for line sockets , ELKHIND FOR ALLENS , GEARWRENCH IS AN UP AND COMMER BUT SNAPON IS BOTH MADE HERE AND MOST EFFECTIVE LOVE THE 90 TOOTH PLUS THEY COME TO YOU . If you gotta have flare nut sockets ... Wright or snapon ONLY ! drillbits ... MAC .. .
Hey, been watching your videos for a bit now. Ive been pulling wrenches as a field mechanic in the Gas compression world for a long time, and suddenly find myself un employed due to this crazy covid world were living in. Long story short Im thinking I want to put a service truck of my own on the road, but on mobile heavy equipment rather than gas compression. Its definitely a little daunting, but I feel like If I give the same level of care to my own customers as I did as an employee, thats half the battle. I guess we’ll see…..lol.
Well, it turns out, I did buy a truck and got it tooled up for the most part, but I ended up taking on a Job that I don’t need a service truck for. So it sits doing nothing right now, but Im still interested in putting it to work, just a little un certain in how to do that. Im all ears with anyone who has advise! I would love to ask a bunch of questions to someone who’s been down this road for sure!
Not very often. They mostly build there own. In fact, the customer I was referring to in this video. They just put 3 kits together themselves. It really depends on if they want higher quality tooling. Its really easy for them to put a Harbor Freight kit together. If its an owner wanting to do more of there own maintenance, they will ask for a kit. Even than, they will probably order everything themselves once I share with them where to buy it.
Richard, I am not an advertisement. Sorry you feel that way. I do work on equipment. I try to film when its appropriate and safe. I work alone quite often and do long hours regularly. Editing videos when I get home is not my priority. My family is. When I slow down, I try to get some of my content out. Please follow my Instagram if you would like to see more of what we do.
In the city, urban craziness, January, -10 temps. Damn, that background looks inviting.

Great Video! Agree 100 percent bare handle, free flex , there's a special feel when you hit that Sweet spot when pulling hard or no choice at times.

Thanks for the info. Not a mechanic but seem to always be wrenching on my truck or the grocery getter.

I see you got a old 359 service truck!👍👍👍👍
You mention all great channels. I also keep a tool kit in my personal truck 😃👍

Good input. Thank you
Awesome video man. Seems like we never can see the parts we need to get to.

Been field mechanic over 20 years wish i could of got gearwrench when i started could of saved a lot of $$$ over time have some now good tools
I find it funny when a shop guy asks “why do you need 2 or 3 of the same ratchet?”

I don't like comfort grips either. I sometimes find the need to add a cheater pipe and you really can't do that with a comfort grip.
Great video, a lot of great points. Thanks for the advise. Keep them coming. God bless you.
I think the icons are just as well made as snap-on . I have both but for now on it's probably going to be icon
Thanks for sharing my man, I'm a fan of the comfort grip ratchets. But like you said you can't go wrong with gearwrench a
Thanks for the video Nate!
I hope i dont sound rude but pleas could you make a service truck tour ?interresting Video i only use expensive retchets 👍
awesome video,, can you make a whole truck tour video? very curious to see your setup and tools
Working on a couple for you guys. I am slow at the editing process

hey bro, did you follow through with this? I would love to hear your story. I may be able to give you some pointers as well.

Have mac comfort grip ratchets and have never broken a handle on them and I use them lots as ag field tech
I was trying to count in my head how many ratchets are on my truck...I think it's 13. 12 of those are Snap-on.
Thank you Sir! Keep it going
Thanks for sharing take care now!👍
great video
Good video dude 🤝🏻
I would go with Armstrong, sk, proto, wright or Williams, you can get new modem ones from all or older used or even new old stock
Definitely all good brands. Quality ratchets that hold up to abuse.
I prefer the feel of a non comfort grip.
they break there because thats where they are turned down for the grip to go on.
Nice video, thanks.
Don’t care for the comfort grips either…week garbage.
Have you tried PROTO? Great impact sockets, to 3 1/2” drive.
I would like to work with u pls n am ever ready thanks
My first day as a field technician is on the 28th of this month what advice do you have I’m very nervous
Just do what you know. 😉 Someone has enough faith in you. Show them you have the faith in yourself.
@@offroadwrench5752 thank you man that means a lot
Have you ever tried a Jet ratchet?
No I haven't
How often do you build kits for customers?

@@offroadwrench5752 thanks, makes sense.
Do you ever work on anything? Thought you’d actually show videos of field mechanics. You just advertise tools.
