United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 30 ก.ย. 2012
👋 I'm Heather - welcome & thanks for being here!
Join me for new adVANtures every week all over Florida and beyond - as well as informative videos on car camping, hiking, and solo travel (including plenty of helpful tips, tricks, and hacks) to make your time on the road easier!
I'll also be sharing the latest chapter of my journey with you - learning how to navigate future hiking & adventures as I begin to adjust to living with unexpected chronic illness.
If you'd like to support my quest for primary diagnosis & treatment, click my gofundme link for details 💚
Since "someday" is never guaranteed, I stopped delaying my dreams, and I'm on a mission to seek out as many beautiful natural spaces to explore (and wildlife to photograph) as I can, while I can! I converted my minivan into a no-build micro travel camper named Terra, and I'm taking you along for the ride!

A week of stressful medical tests & new diagnosis added to my chronic illness list
In this video I'm telling you all about the weird & stressful GI testing I had over a course of 3 days at Mayo Clinic. Yuck!! But I learned a lot of valuable information, confirm a few new diagnoses (yes, plural), and tell you what happens next and what my results were!!
Most of these tests are ones I couldn't find many first hand accounts about online, so I'm hoping this video helps others who suffer from multi system chronic illnesses, disabilities, or severe GI issues. Thank you so much for watching, I appreciate you!!

I figured this was the perfect time of year for this fun but seriously creepy video, and I've never shared these stories publicly before (although some of my close friends and family know about...
Pack with me for when 💩 hits the fan

Pack with me for my upcoming trip to Mayo Clinic for more scary testing. After my hospitalization and chronic health issues have continued to progress - and then the back to back hurricanes hitting Florida - it's made me realize that it's more important than ever for me to have a "go bag" ready at all times. Even when I return to solo travel and car camping (hopefully very soon!), my car issues...

How adorable! I think you both missed each other.😊
💕💕💕 (guilty!!)
Loved my Dezin, but it sparked & mini blowup on bottom. I bought another one, and the connector where plugs in, started smoking. Dangerous.
Oh my goodness, that's scary you had issues with 2 different ones, yikes! Thank you for the heads up, I will definitely be super extra careful anytime I use it now!
That is too adorable. 😊
I felt so guilty for "abandoning" them, but I'm enjoying all the extra snuggles now lol!!
“Mommy, don’t leave me ever again!!” Our kitties are the same way. So adorable! And so sorry you had a major plumbing issue while you were gone… The stress was not needed!
Thankfully I caught it just as I was literally leaving for the program, or I think it would have been a LOT worse by the time I got back, and I'm so grateful my parents were able to help me out & have it repaired while I was gone so that it wasn't a huge mess to deal with as soon as I got home!!
I'm back at home base after graduating my 3 week intensive rehab program at Mayo Clinic, and I think it's safe to say my kitties are so happy I'm back! They had a stressful time while I was away... plumbers had to come in and replumb the whole house & then patch up all the drywall, and I wasn't here to "protect them" for any of it 😢 Can't wait to share my experience with you all soon! (And yes, I'm watching Secret Lives of Mormon Wives again b/c I'm impatient for Season 2 lol)
I like the look of the Hot Logic Mini - must watch your video on that. I have a Vango Sizzle portable Induction hob that uses 800W (240v) on max power, its smaller and much quieter than the home portable versions. I use it in my campervan here in New Zealand, I've cooked fresh filled pasta (Ravioli), and various veg in it, once the water is boiling it takes a similar time to at home. I also have a mini 600W kettle off Amazon, big enough for 2 large mugs, boils in 5 mins and uses 5AH of power. I also tried a 12V kettle, but it took 20 mins to boil and used the same power as the 240V kettle on my Inverter, so I don't use it anymore. I'm wondering if the Jackery has a modified sine wave inverter and the Bluetti has a Pure Sine Wave Inverter - I noticed the Jackery alternating between two different Wattages plus the modified Inverters are normally noisier than the pure sine wave ones - which you need with more sensitive electronic devices like phones, TV, laptops etc So it could be the Bluetti's inverter using the extra power maybe?
Great info, thank you for watching! The Hot Logic Mini is so handy and versatile as long as you have the patience & time to wait for it... I've gotten so much more use out of it that I expected to! The Jackery does have a pure sine wave inverter as well. It just seems to be way more efficient than the Bluetti's is. I haven't experimented with Jackery's new line, but I am curious to see if their lifepo4 version is the same as well (to be honest I haven't really been impressed with my Bluetti! Maybe it's just the model I have & some of their newer units have improved though!)
GLAD 2023 IS GONE!!!!! HORRIBLE YEAR!!!!
It's been a challenging few years for me as well, but I have a good feeling about 2025 💚
@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures I hope your right. 23 saw my oldest son murdered..my baby son(grown man) run down by a drunk. Left for dead. Severe brain trauma.. both eyes smashed..1 removed..now blind. But he's alive!!! Husband fell and broke his hip. Put in nursing home 4 months. IT WAS AN AWFUL YEAR!!!! 25 HAS TO BE BETTER
FIREWORKS SHOULD BE BANNED!!!!!
I would love to see places that put off fireworks switch to laser shows or something with less impact to vets & others with PTSD & sound sensitivities, and less impact on the wildlife as well!
@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures yes!!!
DOGS BARK FOR A REASON...NOT JUST TO BARK..THEY ARENT LIKE PEOPLE
I found out I was hypothyroid bc of hoarseness. My hemoglobin was a little low too. I saw an ENT Dr & my throat & larynx were fine. Then an oncologist finally figured it out. Thank you for doing this video.
I'm sorry to hear that you share a similar thyroid experience to me, but happy you got it figured out as well! I'm hoping my voice will eventually return to normal, but even if it doesn't, it's still worth it to have eliminated the bigger problem! 💚 Thank you for watching!!
I was thinking cause if the cold, if I went camping, to have the next days clothes in a soft vinyl back pack to use as a pillow under my head & it’ll be warm when I put them on in the morning!! You’d be surprised how much heat your head holds!!
You made that work well in that small space! Amazing!! Homey!! 😃 👍
Thanks so much!!
Great summary, thanks!
Thank you!!
You did not get a chance to see the wild Buffalo and the wild horses? Or how about the sandhill crane migration, which is happening around this time along with thousands of alligators?
I've never been able to see the cranes in huge numbers there, I always hear them abd see them flying overhead, but they seem to gather on the Prairie in places I can only get brief glimpses of through vegetation or from a far distance when I'm above it. But I have seen the horses and bison multiple times!
@ have you been to the other side of Paynes prairie, the city side, I believe it’s 20th street I went in one day with my girlfriend, and you walk quite away into the prairie, and the water level was down and alligators were on the canal banks hundreds if not, thousands of them basking in the sun and the sandhill cranes we’re all around. It seemed like it was either the fall or spring but if you inquire with the park attendant, know details!
@raymonddriggers are you talking about from the LA Chua trail side, where the boardwalk is? If so, the Prairie has been inaccessible for a couple years that way, but the gators still gather around LA Chua sink just past the boardwalk when the water comes down enough!
@ I’m not sure about the trail, I am referring to the North side or the residential side entrance which you come in at I think is 20th street or 20th ave which you cross over the Hawthorne Gainesville rail, trail, bike trail, somehow we got there when there was birders and we walked in with them!
@ now that you mention that Heather, I seem to recollect we did walk on a boardwalk. I’m not sure what the area was called. We just came upon it one day driving around. We may have been camping at Paynes Prairie at the time and just looking for something to do. I usually ride the Gainesville Hawthorne rail trail!
Great information Have you tried a thinsulate coat? Marino wool is great. Cashmere is warmer and softer but more expensive. I have Marino socks. Love them. Thinsulate coat and gloves.
Great tips! I do still need to get a good coat and better gloves, so this is helpful!
I came across your channel and so glad I did!! Great advice and good things to have in your car. Thank you! 😊
Thank you so much, I'm so glad this was helpful for you! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely excellent video, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experiences and demonstrate the products.
Thank you, I really appreciate that!! I'm so glad you found it helpful! 💚
Are u using inverter for these products i just seen u can destroy your power station without useing an inverter to change ac to dc
My power stations have a built in (pure sine wave) inverter, so I'm able to switch over to AC and back without risk of damaging the unit, thankfully!
Verbal fry
@@big6pun07 I think you were trying to insult my voice, but there's no such thing as verbal fry. 🙃 (I think you meant my vocal fry from surviving cancer, but sometimes being needlessly mean doesn't work out I guess)
I lived in my car for 8 1/2 years and got a six month reprieve in an apartment and realized it wasn't worth it to mentally and emotionally struggle trying to come up with a mass amount of money that it cost to upkeep financially one of those living options I personally didn't have a choice to go back into my car but I live in a place where the temperature is getting very cold not what most people think is winter but it can get really bad here like the year for this I think we had temperatures that were one and the coldest prior to that was 8° so even though you think North Carolina is a warm state it's really changed a lot has changed I think everywhere but it gets really really cold in the car because it's metal so it attracts heat and cold there's no insulation whatsoever and then being surrounded by six panes of glass is going to really cool the vehicle down fast and I have struggled with condensation I don't have a heater because mine broke so I can't actually use the defroster either on my windows and I wake up and they are just completely fogged up and most of the time they're soaking wet I don't have anything adequate to get that off and it's very hard to see when I'm first taking off to drive When I am going about 45 miles an hour that engine once it's wormed has produced enough heat to send off some heat through my defroster but it's not blowing so it's very very settle and it will eventually clear the windows until then I'm like panicking because it's really difficult to see I really think that a new design for vehicles is so important especially with the increase in people being displaced from their homes and also the options you know you can choose to stay in an apartment that's overpriced comes with nothing and if you tack on all of the expenses including food and miscellaneous items it's so unfordable and for me a veteran was just asleep and I didn't hang out in it or anything like that so the vehicle is more useful I only have a Corolla so I don't have a lot of room and right now my mind is trying to figure out exactly what I have to remove from this car to build something on the passenger side so I can lay flat because I had a lot of help issues towards the end of me getting out of my car which is what prompted me to check into a shelter which I really avoided like the plague For so many reasons but they had a rapid rehousing program and put me in an apartment that I knew was going to be a challenge to afford and upkeep but of course they're worried about numbers and they get fame from supposedly helping people but you're not really helping if those people end up back on the street and that's essentially what happened here But my mindset and my emotional health are extremely good cause I got that extra layer of healing that I really needed and couldn't get any other way then to be laying flat but it really did take me almost 5 months before my body and the muscle memory was able to adjust sleeping in a bed I was in a lot of pain I had a lot of hip problems a lot of knee problems I'm 56 and I hadn't had those problems before so I really just needed a lot of rest and didn't need to push it But this video is a game changer because it gives me the options that I didn't even know existed especially the heated jacket and then I went to the website they have socks as well so what I have noticed over all the winters that I've spent in my car is that my lower back if it gets cold because there's a draft on either side of the door that comes in and I also believe the trunk is a source of draft so that has to be sealed off and there has to be something to block the airflow down by the sides of the door which is probably gonna have to be made and of course my feet and head those are the places where it really really causes me to be colder than I should be so yeah they have heated gloves also as well as the socks and the jacket in the vest and I think they have something else I forget anyway this was amazing I really appreciate the information because I know so many people who are displaced and if I'm able to get myself together which is what I'm trying to do I'll be able to help those people too because they don't have an income and they don't have a way to afford those things but maybe the company would be interested in partneringI'll have to find out
Thank you for your thoughtful reply & feedback. Rent really has gotten so unaffordable, it can definitely limit your options. I'm happy to hear you are in a good emotional place though - that is definitely a huge factor. I'm wishing you all the best luck and sending good vibes your way (and hopes for a milder winter 🤞🤞🤞)
List starts at 2:30..youre welcome.
I think most of the people in the comments already figured that out, but thanks LOL
