Heather, as a younger man I was diagnosed with a couple of different problems with similar symptoms as yours. I was diagnosed first with Guillain-Barre syndrome and then later morphed into chronic inflammatory demyelinating pollen neuropathy. I went through a period of total paralysis and a gradual and slow recovery to slightly lower than normal functioning. Spent the rest of my life accomplishing several life goals ( three college degrees, bicycling through many states, wilderness traveling mostly solo. ( Anything is possible with the right support system in the right frame of mind. Although you do not know your diagnosis yet, don't fear it. Adjust and modify mind and soul and equipment and you can accomplish many great things. Best of luck to you!

What a scary experience for you! One thing I learned when driving truck is to put ICE in your phone's contacts list with the phone number and name of someone to contact In Case of Emergency. First responders are trained to look for it. Also, keep your phone unlocked when out and about. Wishing you all the best!

Thank you for sharing this! I know it was difficult but it so important for people (especially solo travelers) to think about these possibilities and try to have some kind of plan in place.
It was so fortunate that you had your medical info with you, but your experience shows that it’s a good idea to maybe have copies of things in the car….especially if you have an ongoing medical issue. I’m going to sit down this weekend and ask myself “what would people need to know if I was alone in my car and could not communicate?” And try to put together an emergency info packet.

Sooooo glad you had enough of a chance to seek help and pull off the road. That happened to me after driving from Kentucky. But it was a stroke. It started while I was on 75 southbound back to Atlanta. I was in major traffic when my whole right side went numb. So I 100% understand. I didn’t drive for almost 5 months. I was traumatized. So sorry you are going through this. I suffer from similar symptoms periodically. After a few years of testing I was diagnosed with a type of seizure called Simply Partial seizure. With proper meds things are so much better. Just finally knowing what was wrong really made life better. Sending prayers 🙏.

Awww, I'm so sorry. I really hope they can find out what's going on. So they can properly treat you. Oh, I'm sure your parents are happy to help. I know we can sometimes feel like a burden when others step in to help with things we normally do for ourselves. I'm pretty sure they're very concerned about you and just want to help care for you anyway they can. As a parent yourself, you know when your children hurt you hurt. Hey Heather! I was so happy and relieved to see you back in your own house, in your own bed. That sounds so traumatic to have an episode like that while on the road by yourself. I’m glad that you got immediate help. Yes, I am going to follow your lead and have my information in my car with me in the case that I become incapacitated. I had a mini stroke in July at home luckily, and not out on the road. It was scary enough at home, I can’t imagine it happening while I was driving. But my guardian angels were with me, as they were with you. It is a comforting feeling, in the midst of terror. We are warriors my girl, we will keep fighting the good fight to live as normal and satisfying a life as possible. Don’t apologize for being emotional. If you don’t get emotional over something like this, you aren’t human. I am keeping you in my prayers. 💙🩵💚

I'm glad your ok now. I saw your videos from the start I like you ,you keep it real. I 'am a caregiver to a kidney failure person who also ma have a large mass probable Cancer will find out shortly. I also have some medical issues so I know what you felt like; I' m glad you got the emergency care that quick .Mine was that I thought a probable heart attack while taking out the dog.no phone and no one around but the dog. I made it home and went to the hospital and stayed 2day and the first day a intravenous of nitroglycerine for 24 hrs. Glad your ok just take it easy and everything should work out ok.If you need anyone to talk to let me know I will be there for you. Take Care.

You are such an encouragement to me look what you’ve been through and driving so scary and yet you did it you are so brave. I suffer from a handicap as well and doing what you’re doing is what I want to do. Is a matter of financial issues that I have being able to get a vehicle at that, but I can only hope that I could be as brave as you. I can’t believe what you’ve been through that had to be so scary and it shows in your demeanor and what you went through, but you got through it, you got through it don’t be afraid to get back into it. If you have an auto button for your driver window, you could glue a block or something similar to it so that you can mash your hand down on it and at least put your window down for someone to gain access to you. Just a thought as someone who has POTS and falls apart really easily, I also faint occasionally without cause so I also wear a med bracelet that lets others know not to move me rough.... stuff like that might help. I am so very glad you made it safely. I wish your doctors luck in finding what ails you!

So glad you are safe. I plan to part time travel next year and among other things I have epilepsy I am scared to solo travel but I know the key thing with me is not to push myself or get overheated or overwhelmed so I will plan my trips making sure to stop often and rest - go to camp grounds etc… and always let my family know where I am and I am going to get a med alert bracelet along with writing down everything like you said.

Glad you are safe from your driving scare. When I’ve had to deal with medical where the doctors don’t have a quick answer. My mantra is hurry up and wait. Hope some answers come from this episode. Sometimes emergency doctors have a different view and new ideas. Best wishes. ❤
That's the perfect mantra!! It's hard not to dwell on how many months this year have been spent just waiting till the next appt or test. It's so frustrating and demoralizing at times!! 💚

God is so good. I'm so glad you were able to safely exit and get help. I am so glad I stumbled across you. I too have been experiencing unexplained neurological symptoms for many years now. I've had similiar experiences. I learned only in the last year and a half or so that I have RA and AS. Could this be the cause of all these issues? Still unknown... It is terrifying having absolutely no control over your body and there is no telling when and where these "episodes" will hit . You are not alone. Praying for us all to find answers that are struggling.

Whew! This is so scary in the moment. You just never know when something catastrophic can happen. No one can predict these events. When I had a very mild TIA (mini stroke) just over a year ago, doctors diagnosed it by process of elimination (by all the ton of tests, some of them twice). Regarding driving, they told me wait 2 weeks and then drive if I felt up to it. Ever the planner and over-thinker, I waited the 2 weeks and felt normal (actually felt ok the next day). But I asked my daughter to go on a “road test” with me to see what her input was. She asked if she was taking her life in her hands (she’s such a funny girl!). So we went for a short drive and she said I was as good as before. Again, funny girl!
We’re all rooting for you and hope your health journey is coming to an end soon.
Oh gosh, so scary! Yes, I think my very first attempt back at driving again will be about 1/10th a mile down the road to the grocery store, and even that seems scary right now!! Thank you! 💚

I’m so sorry that you had this medical emergency while driving; it’s so terrifying. I had a similar series of symptoms with loss of sensation and function of my legs while driving several years ago. Fortunately my partner was in the car with me, And I was able to pull over safely. I was soon after diagnosed with POTS & NCS, 2 types of Dysautonomia. I’m very curious to hear how your Mayo appts progress, to see what diagnoses are causing these situations for you. Gentle Hugs being sent your way. 🤗

They do finally seem to agree that one of my diagnoses is POTS as well now, but my neuro found some other troubling info from my hospital MRI and some of the testing done, so they're checking a few more things while I wait for most of my results and lumbar puncture. @@kris.creates the neurologist did say yesterday that can't totally rule out a seizure, especially with how tight all my muscles were following the episode, but they don't think it was a seizure. They did find some other concerning stuff on my MRI that needs followed up on as well that I wasn't expecting, so they've added on a few more tests to my pending ones 🥺

I've had these same symptoms 5 times in the last 5 years. Once while driving. There was no way I could even keep driving. I pulled to side of the highway with my head laying on the steering wheel. About 30 minutes passed by, which seemed like hours, & I finally came out of "it". Come to find out, I was extremely dehydrated. Drs told me to always stay hydrated. Dehydration can be deadly. You better believe I drink plenty of water now.
@@TivaC how scary for you! I'm glad you found what caused it in your case, so you don't have to be scared of it happening again! Ironically my hydration & electrolytes were actually at good levels at the time, so they believe the cause of mine was neurological or from my central nervous system. Hoping to get some more answers soon! 🤞🤞🤞

That seems to be the consensus of most of the doctors in the hospital, so we will see if my neurologist is able to confirm the diagnosis now so I can begin a treatment plan. I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with MS yourself. Hugs! 💚

I also have a autoimmune disease, i have systemic lupus. I have had many scary medical symptoms, i too had a similar episode. While driving a dump truck, luckily mine happened while parked. So i know what it is like, once while driving everything started spinning, i felt like a hampster in a spinning wheel. I had to think like a pilot to try to level out a horizon i could use to pull the truck over. Lupus is like rolling dice daily as to what will go wrong today. You did what i do, stay as calm as possible and do what you need to do to get safely off the road. I am now on disability. But i live in my van and travel as i feel good, park if i don't. Take care, i hope they find out which autoimmune disease you have.

The doctors tested me for systemic lupus right off, but they weren't able to confirm it with labs, and over the last few months they've shifted to thinking it's more neurological & muscular-skeletal. What an experience. Wonderful that you were safe and got immediate medical help. For emergency contact, look at the products available from ROADiD - an US company. I have, and wear on the road, a bracelet with my name, hometown, name and number of two emergency contacts, and blood type. They have a range of products - pendants, bracelets, even shoe tags. Originally made for people riding bikes, running, etc., but equally helpful for folks traveling alone. In an emergency, first responders can find that information right on my wrist. I wish you the best in your medical journey. EDITED to add: I have no financial interest in any emergency medical/contact info device. Just sharing what I have. Having something literally on your body is the best way to ensure emergency responders will see the information, IMO.

Your angels were definitely guiding you during all this! I’m so happy you got to safety and the help you needed was right there. Big hugs your way Heather!! My husband suffered a medical emergency and my daughter and I raced to him via his location. We got him to the hospital asap; he had a stroke and thankfully has since recovered. It is soo scary. It leaves you with mental scars that you have to work with, learn from and heal with time.❤ You’re not alone. Give yourself all the time you need, mentally and physically. Hang in there.

You're so strong. Stay strong Heather. Have you been tested for transverse myelitis for this recent experience, Lyme and/or MS. A lot of your symptoms seem to reflect these conditions. I am a certified naturopathic practitioner and have been following you for a long time.
The supposedly rules out Lyme early this year, but they've actually done a diff type of test for it in my last round of labs, just to make sure it wasn't somehow missed the first time. Currently MS is one of the things they're evaluating me for, but my MRIs are a little iffy for that, so hopefully the lumbar puncture can offer some more insights. The hospital felt it was consistent with an MS flare, but so far no confirmation on that front yet. Really crossing all my fingers and toes for more definite answers after all my pending results 🤞🤞

Hi Heather, I am new here and will subscribe. I have severe, chronic illnesses and I found your tips very helpful! I went to Rochester Mayo Clinic in 2017. I wish you the very best as you pursue answers. I once had a doctor say to me, “You do not need another diagnosis.” Meaning that I have an extensive list and thinks I need to add to it. No, I do not want another diagnosis, but if I meet that criteria but it is ignored? That would be medical neglect.

I had someone ask me why I keep looking for problems and diagnoses so hard to find something wrong! I was flabbergasted and just said, I don't want anything to be wrong, but something very clearly is, so I would like to identify it and know best how to treat it!! It can be very frustrating!
I think you need to add no driving to your list until they figure out what the problem is. I’m sorry but you have no business driving with this kind of situation. If you don’t stop for yourself-then stop for everyone else on the road. As an RN and just a fellow driver-I beg you to consider this. I hope they figure this out ASAP-and you can get back on the road and back to normal.
First of all, I already have stopped driving for now *despite* all 6 doctors that consulted with me (after examining me and reviewing my history) assuring me i had no worries and neednt be afraid of driving again as long as I err on the side of caution when im having a bad day. Second of all, I have been under physician's care the entire time, and have always been reassured my muscular strength is not too compromised and I have no restrictions as tolerated. I made it pretty clear that nothing like this had ever happened before and also that my biggest fear was harming anyone else on the road at the time it occurred. Do you really feel as if that was necessary to say?
Frankly the thought of driving again right now terrifies me, as I thought was pretty obvious in the video.
@@terriburrosskistner1268 I also voluntarily asked at the hospital if I needed a paper saying I shouldn't drive for now, or any documentation if I was considered a safety risk, etc
... I was told there was no need, and I was still fine to drive. I was the one who decided I'm not going to. Thank you for trying to help, though, I'm sure your heart was in the right place and you didn't mean to come off condescendingly the way you did
Also, check for mercury poisoning from tooth fillings of mercury amalgam. I had a horrible experience with numbness of muscles from these.
Remove them and replace them with white too fillings. Detox.body of heavy metal poisoning.

I drove from Phoenix to Denver and back last month and was having heart attack symptoms the whole way. Got back and had (a minor) one. Now I'm heading back to Denver in a few weeks and I'm so afraid something will happen in the middle of nowhere. There's parts of that trip with no service 😬
Oh my gosh, so scary!! I keep thinking what if I'd been in theiddle of nowhere! (Or worse, hit any other vehicles trying to pull off)... Definitely a scary situation I hope to never repeat!

Unfortunately, this was a neurological/physical medical event. We think we have finally narrowed down the diagnosis but are awaiting the rest of the testing to be completed. But yes, severe anxiety can definitely be crippling

I had this after Covid infection. Still dealing with it 1.5 years later. Numb legs and sometimes arms.
The lumbar puncture doctor was telling me today that they've been seeing unprecedented numbers of autoimmune diseases and previously rare testing be needed frequently now. It's hard not to thing that it definitely plays a role in activating some of these conditions & symptoms. And so many people are being diagnosed with long covid and the complications from that as well. (I'm sure all the chemicals and toxins everywhere don't help either). It seems it's becoming more challenging to stay healthy!
I'm glad you made it off the road to a safe place and received the emergency services you needed. Hope you get well soon. Hope they find your proper diagnosis so you can get the necessary medical treatment you need to be back on the healthy road to recovery. I am curious, though, because whatever it was that happened to you on the road could have jeopardized your safety and that of others on the road. Are you still permitted to drive? In my state when someone experiences any sort of medical emergency such as what you experienced, while driving needs to be reported to the state and you're not permitted to drive until 6 months to a year after a clean bill of health, where you will no longer be a danger to yourself or others on the road. Does your state do that? Doesn't sound like it. All states should.
I actually asked about that at the hospital, b/c it didn't feel right that I could drive after being discharged (without know if it could happen again) and all of the doctors there mentioned as long as I was feeling better/ok at the time it was fine. But I haven't driven again yet since, and after seeing my neurologist yesterday, we did discuss the fact that I should avoid it for now, until we confirm some additional things, especially while my migraines are still more intense & not well controlled at the moment. So I'm really hoping for more answers and better treatment plan soon, b/c I feel awful (but extremely grateful) that my parents are having to drive me all over to my appointments, and pick my kids up, and help with my errands & groceries. They've been so awesome but I feel like a terrible burden at the moment!

Thank you for sharing this, yes I am so upset about this and have been following closely. I saw footage from great turnout to protest today at Jonathan Dickinson SP, and I'm encouraged that that enormous public outcry seems to be having an impact and lets them know they won't be able to sneak it through under the radar anymore. But I agree that more awareness and action is needed! I'm planning on doing a post this coming week about it! 💚

I'd be interested in your eventual diagnosis. I just took my son to the ER a couple of days ago with the same symptoms. He had an MRI and EEG but nothing shows. Neurologist postulated deep brain seizures. But no idea at this point.
I definitely will update! My EEG ended up normal as well, whi h the neuro found surprising given my chronic migraines at the very least, so she ordered a 24-hr one next month. I should have a slew of results coming in next week, so hopefully there will be more answers in there! My primary Dr agrees with the hospital docs that I do appear to meet the criteria for POTS, but believes there are some other issues as well. It can definitely get frustrating and exhausting searching for answers!
@@HeathersHikesAndAdVANtures It seems like a constant unknown. Does it progress or is it temporary? Is it just something annoying to live with or is it something else. The doctor today is doing a blood panel focused on the kidneys. It's a shot in the dark so I don't know. Hopefully we find some answers. This is not his first episode either. We're just guessing that stress and heat might be triggering but those are common things in life so again just questioning everything.

Theyve uncovered several secondary diagnoses through all my testing, but unfortunately not the underlying diagnosis yet! They have narrowed it down to being neurological or a central nervous system disease (several doctors are leaning towards MS, but I'm waiting on more testing to confirm) so I'm hoping now that they've narrowed it down, I'll make some real progress soon 🤞🤞🤞
It's so difficult at times, especially as a woman to get a diagnosis. It took a family member 5 years to be diagnosed with a rare autoimmune neurological condition. Getting a diagnosis is so important in getting the right treatment. The right treatment makes for a better quality of life.

Thank you for mentioning this, it's definitely something I've considered (i really don't like taking any unnecessary medications, especially since I already have to be on thyroid replacements the rest of my life. I have confirmed with all of my doctors, and done my own research (including any supplements like turmeric that I've been taking to help) including what times of day are recommended for each, etc...
I'm trying to work on moving my diet to more whole foods and less processed/chemicals b/c I feel like that's definitely a contributing factor that exacerbates things.
