Things are starting to get somewhat tricky now. its hypothetically possible but I'm not doing it.
How exactly does a low-level run in Nocturne work? You get loads of random encounters just by walking around, and on Hard mode you can't escape from them without smoke balls or Trafuri. How do you avoid gaining unwanted EXP?
in the HD version you can change difficulty at any time so the easiest way to do it would be to walk around on Merciful to reduce the encounter rate and run away from every battle that you don't use for recruitment or trading. It would still be possible on PS2 though since even if you're unable to flee normally on hard, escape is guaranteed if all enemies have a crippling status effect like shock, freeze, sleep or bind.
@@ZephhyrAgain I see, thanks for the answer. I don't even wanna think about how awful a run like this would be on PS2 if you had to make every enemy have an ailment just to run away for every single encounter

Hiya, idk if you already know this or if you care, but I encountered a softlock glitch. I was curious if there was a New Kagutsutchi encounter in the DLC areas, and the game effectively froze while loading the fight. I could still open the map and menu, but I was stuck on the blurry "about to battle" screen. Loading my save from the menu didn't even fix it, I had to close the game.
I haven't tested the dlc areas and I've been told that even when they work, the encounters don't drop items for some reason. I wouldn't recommend using them, its not like they're needed anyway. The dlc areas have their own separate data tables for everything and I haven't looked at them at all, its pretty low on my list of priorities.
Hey Zephhyr, I think a good change for Insaniax is making the requirement for unlocking the gaea magatama 24 magic *or* 24 strength in Insaniax. It'd be a good quality of life addition and would make it so people don't have to prioritize strength while running a magic build on the Demi-fiend. Cheers and good luck on development.
I already thought of this. Gaea can be bought from Rag with a special gem in order to circumvent the 24 strength requirement.

Oh my gosh. Thank you for putting a battle where all of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are present! Insaniax is slowly becoming the Definite Edition of SMTIII in my eyes.
I remember my friend set this game up on native hardware to see who could clear the tutorial. When my turn came around we both missed each other two times before I got through that fight. My friend was shocked.

This is amazing work and I'm really looking forward to it's completion! Is the late game magic buff (and removal of the magic damage cap) from hardtype planned as a feature? It was probably what I loved most about hardtype, since it made magic builds actually useful Either way, this is really awesome and I'll definitely be giving it a playthrough at some point

This mod fleshes out Nocturne even further with that modern touch up, I'm also loving the Dante and Raidou rework, Raidou going crazy with his summons, and Dante with his devil trigger??? That's absolutely amazing AS HELL. I'm looking forward to see what else comes further down the line with this mod.
And sent to a friend to play. Simply by the mechanics of beast eye being completely redone makes it the best version for first playthrough. He no longer needs to suffer the wrath of mott's minute long cheating

you know what you should do for merciful? If it's possible to change dialogue based on difficulty, have the game warn that Merciful is not playable on the mod, but it'll humor it for a bit. You will eventually cut to the game over screen except with the not yet demifiend after passing out.
I have a strong mind to re-name "Merciful" to "Journalist" and call it a day. I could definitely change some of the dialogue for additional humour though.
Dante and Raidou having separate movesets for their boss fight definitely adds incentive to engage with both fights (and I hope that it extends to their playable counterparts as well), and I'm all for it. I also appreciate the small detail of Mara's minions (Gamate) being coloured white, and though its a small nitpick, I do hope that the "Uber" Pixie obtained in the Labyrinth of Amala has a different colour palette to differentiate them from the regular Pixie demons. Upon seeing Dante's Devil Trigger (I'm glad you included it!), I was on some level hoping for a Vergil boss fight. It probably won't happen, but it'd cool if it did.

Is the Demi Fiend able to relearn skills he forgotten? If not it would be nice if he could Also is Magic skills fixed as in they stop being weak if you invest points on the magic stat?
Yes to both. When you master a Magatama in this mod all of its skills are reset except for ones you currently know. Magic skills have been re-tuned so that they peak at levels appropriate to their power tier. The highest tier magic skills have no level peak so they scale with level properly up to level 255.

That is what I'm going for yeah. Experienced players should still need to think about what they're doing but newcomers won't be blindsided by unobvious bullshit anywhere near as often.

This is looking incredibly exciting so far! I like the innate skills addition and also the color-coded skills to indicate their types! But hooooo boy, those bosses are gonna be wild... I don't know if I have to play Hard difficulty or not before giving this a try though... especially as someone who primarily plays Normal difficulty.

I don't have Nocturne HD (at least as of yet), so I'd like to ask: -Do more bosses have weaknesses? Mainly ore ailment susceptibility for "Technical" hits? Some combination of both? -Are some of the weird stat formulas un-weirded like in PS2 Nocturne Hardtype? -Considering that it's possible to add a Reborn NG+ option with another mod, would it be possible to create a Godborn-like version of this mod later down the line?
Bosses are indeed vulnerable to more ailments. Not all of them, but definitely some. Specter for instance can be Stunned Agility and Luck now work like they should, and Luck affects more things. Magic was mostly unchanged, just that the level peaks now depend on your magic tier (so Agi would peak at Level 24, Agilao would peak somewhere in the 50s, so on and so forth)
- Boss weaknesses are more common but most bosses that didn't have an element-weakness before still don't. Thor for instance now has the ailment weaknesses of his fusable counterpart, as does Ose. - Stat formulae have been mostly revised to be more sensible. The nightmarish magic damage formulae were the main exception because I couldn't find a way to make it more intuitive while preserving the scaling curve. The compromise I made was to take the same approach that Zombero did and alter the base and limit values of every magic skill so that they would peak at an appropriate level for the power tier of the skill, with the highest tier having no limit. - Godborn would have to be something I'd have to make as a seperate version after the mod is finished. There isn't enough space in the game's data structures to duplicate every demon. It isn't out of the question but definitely I'm not going to think about it until after the mod is finished.
