Seaside Disappointment or Hidden Gem?
มุมมอง 1.7K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
In its Victorian prime, Rhyl shimmered as a jewel of the Welsh coast. Grand hotels lined its golden sands, bustling with holidaymakers seeking sun, sea, and amusement. Rhyl's promenade stretched for miles, a vibrant stage for donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, and the melodic strains of brass bands. But whispers of decline began to creep in during the latter half of the 20th century. Some labe...

You missed out all the Crack dens and stoners,, its a hell hole.
I think you missed its really unique feature.. the Lighthouse IN THE TOWNS STREETS..
@@davidsimpson8192 yes had limited time there
Looks like a decent value. Hope you had a nice trip!
It is, thanks.
i think Hartlepool is worst.
Not done Hartlepool, but been to the town and can imagine you could be right. Maybe when we get summer again
drive through rhyl, don,t stop its a dive.
Beaches are fine, just the resort itself
A beautiful place in its heyday, check out old photos, also go further along to Redcar East, Marske and Saltburn. Ive lived here over 50 years and its been left to run down in parts like a lot of places.....
@@lynnthompson4363 totally agree
Worse Airport for what? This is RAF Yeadon and the highest airfield in the UK. Its runway is legendary for the ‘hump’ designed to get heavy bombers off the ground by giving more lift. It’s actually one of the best airports, in many respects. I’ve had and seen a couple of “go round” incidents due to the cushion of wind over the hump (there’s a proper name for it but I don’t know what it is). This stops the plane from dropping and as hard as the flight deck try it just won’t go down so a “go round” is a regular occurrence. Nothing to be frightened of!
@@waldenhouse as. I say in the video, it isn't bad, just old
Leeds Bradford airport, you mean Jet2 airport it’s ok for short holiday flights. If you need to go long haul forget it Manchesters the place .
It's a small airport but it has concord land here
I cycled from Rhyl to Colwyn Bay last year .. ( couple of hours ride) Its was quite pleasant ☺️
@@Dathom1986 I can imagine it was, when we were in Towyn, we walked to Rhyl
Im goin this year at august
I bet it will be fun, weather permitting.
I grew up and live in Southport. The grass on the beach is also puzzling, as it was not like this around 10 years ago. Surely, there is a scientific explanation, but like I say, this grass only seems to have taken over during the last ten years.
Interesting. I certainly don't remember seeing the grass from my childhood
I live in Sutton on sea, moved from Sheffield 30 years ago and never looked back! such a lovely place to live. You did justice to out little Seaside Town in your video, but Shhhh ! don't tell anyone about our little peaceful haven ;-)
@@grahampemberton8497 promise not to 😊
Absolutely spot mate with the reasons there were with big queues etc..we have always used LBA and never had a problem..👍🏼
Thanks. I like Leeds loads more than Manchester
we went for years too the burstins hotel had some nice walks and trips only complaint ed 2times covid stopped our trips but it was a nice time hotel was cheap food not to bad staff with us very friendly . the new flats are the eye saw.
Thanks for telling us of your experience of the hotel and Folkestone
Manchester Airport has always been very bad , nothing to do with Covid it was terrible before covid , ignorant unknowledgable staff , bad service throughout the airport and the knowledge of knowing you can not just walk to the airport next door if you not happy you can't its the worst airport in the world , and it hurts to admit it , because I come from Manchester , its a joke
I can fully understand where you are coming from,
It used to be one of the most beautiful terminals, complete with Venetian chandeliers, impressive airline banners and stained glass art, with great views onto the airport. Now it's a shopping excursion.
I agree, when I was there I couldn't believe that there was a clothes shop. Then I realised there was 4
Fpr sheer soul destroying travel hell you cannot beat Manchester Airport
100 % agree on previous trips, but maybe the security improvements are making it a little better
I'm confused, is this an airport terminal or a shopping mall ! I don't know about any other countries, but if flying to Spain don't bother buying any so called duty free bottles of alcohol as they are cheaper in the shops.
So right, you fly to Alicante and enough seats etc
I flew in and out of Manchester airport about 20 years ago when I was headed to the Lake District, and I remember back then I thought it was a pretty nice airport.
I believe it was good but as flights have increased, it hasn't kept up with all needed
I’ve been traveling myself, so I’m behind on your video. Staithes looks like an interesting little town.
Good to see you again. Have you been far? I think Staithes looks ok, but I would sooner go to Whitby which close, or Runswick Bay which near enough next door.
I was in Seattle, Washington, and now I’m back across the country at the beach in North Carolina. It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Two very different climates.
@@katzablot599 sounds it
Thank you for the tour, I enjoyed it.
Thanks for saying that, glad you did
It,s a shithole
It's Llandudno not clandudlo
From what I understand (we have Welsh relatives) the Welsh say Ll as cl, so it is pronounced clan not lan
Queen Victoria would not use Her bathing Machine if She were alive today - thanks to Southern Water.
Very funny
oh know, it really is a dump. beach is dead and just poor
Wouldn't take much to improve it, in my opinion
You are right it is a dump used to be a nice place we were there last week in Wales we went to Towyn it is a horrible place
You can connect to the rail network from goathland to Grosmont, where you connect to middlesbrough, then onwards to the rest of the uk and beyond.
Hats off to you for showcasing our little town. 👍🏼 A couple of minor discrepancies though. Unless I am mistaken, KwikFit is actually on the site of the old Rainbow garage, and the Chapellow's newsagents was next door to Iceland, to the left. I stand to be corrected of course ☺️
Chapelows had 3 shops, and Yes, Rainbow was the current kwikfit, it's opposite motosave. The original building was demolished
What is now Morrisons was a flour mill E Timms & Sons not a bakery, which was in the same family for over 150 years if you lived hear you would know that.
I did and do.
Used to have Sainsburys too where the Jacksons was beforehand
I was always led to believe that Rainbow Ford was where stoneacre is now? I do know, as I was one of the students that went there, that before it became Delta and after Vermuyden. it was Goole High School
Rainbow i used to work for and was on boothferry road opposite Motosave. It was over 3 floors, the body shop at the top. The building was completely demolished. And Motisave (before my time) was also a car dealership selling Wolseley cars. The company was Cornelius Parish. The door handles for Motosave was, and might still be, in the shape of 2 letters C P

Your family take such fun trips. What a great way to get to know your country.
It's great to have them included. Especially when you look back on them over the years, like the clip of them from 2020 in the play park at the end of this video
