I lived in Redcar and went to school there. Left the town when I was 16 and I loved it. We didn’t appreciate what a great place it was to grow up in until I left. The beach all the way to Saltburn, what a playground.

So did I leaving in 1951 I loved it. Much neglect over the years moving Steel production hurt.

A beautiful place in its heyday, check out old photos, also go further along to Redcar East, Marske and Saltburn. Ive lived here over 50 years and its been left to run down in parts like a lot of places.....

I went to Redcar races and when I placed a bet the bookmaker said if you win you get a bonus one weeks holiday here you really wouldn’t mine losing!

I don't think it's the worst but it certainly ain't as good as it was back in the 60s/70s IMO

They are building a hotel between the kids park and tuned in (the strange building). U were parked at majuba.

@beantravelling where there was building work on the sea front next to pacetos they are going to build a entertainment center with bowling, rock climbing etc in it.

It is what most towns throughout the UK are going through these days , not many people visit .

Many towns do suffer, however many have more than recovered whereas Redcar seems to have been left behind

So many interesting facts, as usual. These videos have been a lovely way for your family to explore the areas around you. Have they had any favorites?

Thanks again for your comments. I think of what you have seen would be Scarborough and Whitby. During the summer, we will be going to Blackpool, which is always tops with our children. What have you liked most of what you have seen recently?

@@beantravelling I thought Robin Hood’s Bay was so interesting, and Whitby looked like a good place to visit. I also loved the York Christmas Market the best. York is high on my list of places to visit, but I love seeing these other towns so I know other places to see when I come to that area.

Redcar: the place they used in the film Atonement as a bombed out Dunkirk during the evacuation in WW2, it’s said they had to tidy it up first though!

If u turned up the Rd next to the life boat there are public toilets. Further along the sea front past the life boat museum there are 2 hotels the park hotel and the Claxton. Where u parked now has lots of toilet facilities for everyone to also the becon has public toilets in to. The area is going through some regeneration so we don't look fab at the mo. The boating lake also has a coffee shop.
