Wanna stop girls from having body image issues? Stop talking about their bodies.
It seems like every time you turn around there's something going on with girls and body image issues. It's an ongoing issue that really makes you wonder if there's a solution. This has become particularly important when speaking about teenagers and little girls. The adultification of kids, specifically young girls, is nothing new of course, but it's becoming more of a problem because it's being normalized. Many people are simply accepting this shift, and saying it's "not that deep" when they don't realize the many dangers it puts little girls in. It's not fair to them that they won't have a proper childhood, or have to grow up too fast because of certain things that we've deemed acceptable. Little girls should be able to grow slowly and with time without being rushed into certain ideals they don't understand yet. And as per usual, I want to look at things psychologically and suggest a possible solution to this epidemic. We tend to put so much emphasis on girl's bodies, that maybe that's what makes them obsess over it in the first place. Instead of dressing your kid up to look like a 20 year old so they can "express themselves", maybe they can find many other outlets to express themselves in the same way? Because if we make a girl seem like her only value is in her looks, what does that say about her value as a person?

Overconsumption Is Just Coping, It WONT Give You Happiness
มุมมอง 5K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Ah yes. It's that time of the year again. This Christmas was most likely full of gifts and knick-knacks many of us may never use again(I love Christmas btw so this isn't a roast lol). But that's okay, because a random knick-knack every now and then doesn't hurt. But what about those who constantly buy? People who buy the most outrageous amounts of things? Overconsumption has come up a lot these...

So apparently no one wants to go trick-or-treating anymore. People have reported the streets being empty, bowls of candy being full towards the end of the night, and people not even answering their doors. The Predatory Nature of Children's Entertainment

We constantly hear how this generation of children is "doomed", but we often don't tend to look at ourselves in the mirror and recognize that maybe we're a part of the issue. With AI rapidly growing, and children's content getting even easier to make, children's content is very profitable. But because of this, many people try to get a slice of the million-dollar pie and make garbage, lazy, and ...

Underconsumption: An illusion of progress or a necessary evil?

Underconsumption is a new term people are using to try and reverse the damage of overconsumption. We're all so used to seeing massive hauls and shopping sprees that we just want to see the opposite; we want bare minimum lifestyles being portrayed on the internet. Great video btw
this is a really introspective video, i was really surprised to see there were only 500 likes. Really underrated, this really made me think/ reflect a lot. Thank you :) keep it up!
Fun fact about me i actually have not 1 not 2 but 3 scares one on my forehead one on my elbow and one on my finger i always hated the one on my forehead because all my younger sister would talk about was my scare but now I don't even worry about it anymore because I just don't think about it 😅 and as long as nobody talks about it to much im as confident as can be!
The longevity of embellished clothing is nonexistent.
Honestly this is so real. I never cared about my weight before my mom made comments. After that it just spiraled
I just discovered your channel and you're lowkey pretty cool !
One thing, I think we all have: fuzzy sock feet! 🎉❤
Watching this video feels like putting on glasses for the first time. I’m for the most part neutral regarding my body but I noticed as a kid and teenager I’d only care about it when either my parents or other kids commented on it and at least my parents would claim it was about health when meanwhile kids don’t have a concept of what that means. (I was a chubby kid in a group of average to slim kids) so from that and watching vain characters on TV be punished for being vain (or evil or mean or whatever. Regardless they were considered “attractive”) I had this mentality that taking any care in your appearance was vain and obsessive and didn’t have any value because it was surface level. Well after trial and error finding things to help manage my depression I weirdly found that putting a little effort into my appearance past a hoodie and sweatpants helped. I’m no fashionista but choosing clothes I like and receiving compliments was really helpful for my self esteem. It wasn’t about what other people wanted but the fact that other people liked what I picked out myself and that was empowering. Especially relate to the whole “we’re gonna die anyways, no one’s gonna care about what you look like when you’re dead” you may as well dress me up in a clown getup when you bury me because I know that’s not what I’ll be thinking about in my last moments.
People definitely cared about hip dips and thigh gaps before tik tok. Being skinny has been “in” for decades and more.
About the hip dips: I've been worrying about mine for over 15 years (but not much now actually). It didn't take TikTok to make me aware of them. All it took was not seeing them ANYWHERE. No actors or models or real people. Either the pretty people didn't have them or they camouflaged them, because they weren't there. It didn't have to be talked about explicitly for me to notice. I just had to look at them not being represented
I'm willing to bet the pretty ppl just camouflaged them lol but that's interesting too, having something seemingly not be present in other ppl can definitely make u look at urself and wonder why u look different
🙂↕️💖
The way to stop girls from having body image issues is Nr 1: By being a good role model. Little girls look at the women aroundthem & how they view & talk abt their bodies that is the way the little girl will learn to perceive their body. If you never leave you house without make-up or with your natural hair you teach your girls that there is something wrong with them just being them. Spending hours watching skincare routines etc shows girls where their priorities should lie. And the worst only talking abt your bidy image in anegative way shows little girls that they should feel shame for how they look. Nr 2: Getting them involved in sports or physical activitities that challenge them at a young age. It so important for them to realise tbat a good body is just not for looks but it serves other bigger purpose by letting us move, see, smell etc
My cousin who is in middle school mentioned how she felt sad because everyone was rushing to grow up. She even mentioned children in SIXTH grade vaping in the bathrooms, wearing excessive makeup, and some in just a grade above even having intercourse (in the school bathrooms as well). I don’t know why but there’s this rush to be an adult when your brain isn’t even remotely fully developed among children now.
It's sad cause no adult wishes they rushed through their childhood.
Omg girl we have the same type of arms. I hate them too fr fr, good to see I don’t have a weird problem and that others have it
nope, definitely not just u, my arms basically go down to my knees lol
I think crafting is changing with the times, but there are still people who make the videos for the sake of crafting. It's just hard to sift through the content creators at times. Btw the last thing that I made was a caftan from thrifted fabric.
Children dressing like adults is exploitation, this shouldn't be normalised before they're grown up enough to decide for themselves how they want to dress
When I got into my twenties I became obsessive with an anime. I wanted everything of it to try and earn attention from other fans as I was outcasted. I felt that owning things would fulfil that for me and I basically just wanted it all as I liked it. The problem is, I got into monetary trouble and the items of this show never stop being pumped out and it cluttered my room. They make collabs merchandise, new bags, new figurines, new this and that and it NEVER ENDS. It’s the same with any popular franchise like Sanrio or others anime’s like the one I liked. They even do it for movies and celebrities. None of the items I bought I was able to sell apart from a few (about 5) and I got so little for it, the rest ended up at op shops and I think the dump. None of it was even useful or had any purpose. I did get a dopamine “high” even just looking at stuff and browsing but felt overwhelmed due to thousands of pages worth of stuff. Over the years I came to a realisation this stuff is just sitting on the shelf doing absolutely zero for me and caused so much dust and stress to maintain. I’m still trying to sell some things but not having any luck so more stuff went to op shops. These companies are ruthless trying to make you feel a connection of sorts to something you like by buying “things”. Sure, they are nice to own but they are never enough long term and the nice feeling goes away and you feel you need something more of this show or whatever it is. Took me to reach my 30’s to realise this. I also realised I didn’t truly like the anime all that much any more, I just appreciated the art of it as it was stunning.
This is such a good explanation and I was thinking the exact same thing It kinda reminds me of how my parents would sometimes say jokes about people’s appearance, like literal strangers And I’d be like “ why did you have to say that?” And they would always say that they’re just joking But I’ve always thought that like Why do you feel the need to comment on a stranger’s body? Like I never thought about it until they brought it up.
ahhh i have so much to say but i cant put it into words well... so i'll just say this is SUCH a fantastically well done video! the points you made were articulated so gracefully, and it really had me thinking a lot! ive never had strong body insecurities (i was also homeschooled for most of my educational life and generally isolated from peers) and so i enjoy watching these types of videos to understand the psychology of it more..! anyway, this is just so great, im subscribing so hard rn💗
I'm pretty big and struggle with food but I don't have body image issues. I have ARFIDS Avoidant and I've always struggled with eating vegetables because of the texture I also have depression and I eat A LOT of unhealthy foods when I am depressed especially as a teenager. despite this and being around girls my age that had eating disorders and body image issues I never really had them. I also have Audhd and I did speculate on weather I liked my body and I decided that I did. I think its also easier being a lesbian IDK. Sure I wanted to figure out what I liked to wear and how I looked in it but it was never something that bothered me for more than the time that I choose to think about it.
This makes me want to rewatch Little Miss Sunshine
What is that show about?
I was actually just talking to my therapist about this today. TW ‼for disordered eating, but when I was a kid the kind of frequent validation about my appearance I got was how skinny I was and how I needed to try hard to stay skinny. And I stayed skinny all through highschool by restricting food and "banning" myself from eating "bad foods" and cardio almost daily. Not gonna get into the gritty details but I highly advise everyone reading this to eat a normal amount of calories a day-- just please feed your body. I was really sick both mentally and physically and reveled in all the skinny comments because I thought I was practicing self restraint and control. In summary, yes kids will internalize and remember comments about their bodies. I still remember some of the crappy things people said about my nose and hip dips and lack of thigh gap in high school and I still have to tell myself "that isn't my voice saying that, that's someone else' narrative they tried to push onto me". I definitely would have been a lot better off if my family cooled it with the skinny comments and the frequent ostracizing of larger women. Obligatory I'm a lot better. I still have trouble accepting my actually healthy normal weight and body, because again, stuff sticks with you. But I'm pulling through. I've survived 100% of my hardest days.
I really don’t now why but this video is very comforting to watch as someone who is part of the teen age group.
0:45 sounds like victim blaming.
What?
@@loritaobijiaku9232pretty sure she’s referring to the idea that dressing a certain way puts girls in danger. It really depends on who’s saying it and why, though. It’s victim blaming to say that someone is asking to be assaulted because of the way they dress, obviously, but encouraging say 10-12 year olds not to try to dress/act older than they are because it could potentially misrepresent their age (and that can be dangerous) isn’t. It shouldn’t have to be dangerous, but our culture has associated certain looks with being “fast” or promiscuous and unfortunately a lot of people have no problem still projecting those ideas onto increasingly younger girls.
That's if you don't get cremated.
20:08 So, what you're saying is that you were sheltered your whole life?
For most of it unfortunately. Mainly me tween to teen years. Definitely not the best for my social skills lol
The only reason I didn't think about a pink elephant was because I zoned out. but now I'm thinking about it and it's doing a little dougie aswell
Hmm how would an elephant do the dougie? Would it stay on all fours and bend its knees or stand on two and do the hand movements? 🤔(these are the real questions here ppl)
Love this video, really resonates with me as someone who did pageants. I love just listening to you talk as I make breakfast, do chores, etc.
I have to say the psychology lesson and demo was genius, please don't let that go in future videos.
I'm a trans-masc person who, although I've never grown up with body image issues or obsessing over the way I look, I sort compare myself to cisgender guys sometime unconsciously (i.e. thinking I'm not tall enough, strong enough, have a deep enough voice, etc...). And even though I have things I dislike about myself, I've personally tried to focus on the things I can change in the present, like working out to get stronger for example, but I've never done anything dangerous to reach my goals or expect for the results to come out perfectly or be done right away. It's all a very nuanced conversation to be had for sure.
Hello Again! I love your videos so much❤, keep it going 💜✨✊
my younger cousin used to go to beauty pageants when she was a young girl, she’s 12 now and struggles with her body imagine and anxiety. her mom still doesn’t acknowledge that forcing her to go to those pageants is what caused it i feel so bad for all the little girls and boys being forced into these pageants :(

Honestly a W video Exploring the psychology of how one may arrive at generalizations and biases on topics that we face day to day is a really great way to understand someone unjustified and wrong in their generalization and someone who may just have a reaction to a reality they've experienced. I'd really enjoy perspectives like this in the future🙂🙌

Chances are, if I put up a WW2 era sign that says "No Japanese," I'd be cancelled for it. And rightfully so, because that would be a racist generalization. But when a Japanese restaurant owner puts up a sign that says "No foreigners," that's somehow okay? And don't tell me that Japanese people can never be racist. Have you seen some anime? They legit depict black face sometimes! And on a T.V. show for everyone to witness! I can understand being a bit naive, but these are grown people we are talking about. Infantilizing Japanese people like this not only promotes the idea that they have no agency but also insults their critical thinking skills. It's not a bad thing to bring up this issue with a Japanese person. If you feel hurt by their words, just say it and be polite about it. And if they don't want to listen, then you for sure know they are not a friend.
Idk why even the internet decides to categorize people commiting crimes or disturbances by color. Like anybody can do this, anybody.
The majority of the customers are Japanese, therefore if they are not doing this to the Japanese, they are not killing the business, they are protecting it. How much Black customers does they has? Less than 0.1%. So if they not follow Japanese customers around the shop, the business is find. Not missing any item unchecked.
Being so parasocial but like congrats on the sponsor💯💯💥💥
Do Black people even travel to Japan like that? I don’t see why this has anything to do with anything other than just blatant discrimination. It’s o logical to think that everyone would behave that way just because they share similar skin colors.
werent those signs made up and fake ?😮
