ai kids ''content'' getting so bad on youtube has inspired me to rework one of my older story ideas into a potential idea for a kids show, just so that i can try to make something better if im somehow able to do so one day. im still a kid/teenager myself and not a professional writer, so the show wouldn't be anything groundbreaking, but i want it to be a passion project of sorts that will at least have a lot of soul behind it if nothing else.
the show would center around two main characters, mew and clover (both cats.) i don't have much written on mew yet so i will mostly be talking about clover here. clover is very curious about the world they live in, particularly and specifically with anything to do with the supernatural, which is the basis for most of the scenarios that would happen in the show. i would make most of the episodes tackle real scientific phenomenon by turning them into little ''spooky'' (in quotes because i'm not gonna go super far on that because i dont want the show to be genuinely scary) adventures. despite the ''spooky'' tone of a lot of the episodes, i still want the show to feel very calm with not super high stakes most of the time. i want it to truly feel like exploration without having to make it super (over)stimulating. i'd describe my idea as ''friendly horror'', if that makes sense. the show would focus mostly on strong characterization of the two main characters, and, just in case the viewers would like to explore, there is also plenty of hidden lore related to the characters lore subtly hinted at throughout the show that more observant viewers could dive into if they so wish.
the show would also be pretty friendly in how it approaches its characters. both main characters are neurodivergent, and i intend to make most of the characters that appear in the show all be a bit ''odd'' in their own way and not have any character be shamed for that. i want to make a show that is fun as well as genuinely wholesome.
would this show be a success? uh, probably not. but i want to make something with intention behind it

I actually have my own show idea. It's themed around 2 or 3 cats that run a taco truck. Think "Bread Runners" but infinetly better. The first episode would revolve around just getting to know the cast, and the conflict would be how the cats have very little money after buying the necessities, so they have to get creative with marketing & advertising. One of the main characters has autism, and thus appears as 'lazy' and 'uncaring' , refusing to share his ideas verbally (btw he can talk, he just prefers not to). Eventually, the others figure out how to communicate and meet him in the middle, leading to some good publicity. If a character has a disability, then most- but not all- charecters just act like it's perfectly normal (cuz it is).

It reminds me of the annoying "not my Rodrick" trend that went on where people complained about the new actor playing Rodrick in that new Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie. It's genuinely sad that we're just throwing slop to the kids because they don't know any better. Like i moved recently and just for the nostalgia i went thru my old box set of Roald Dahl books like James and the Giant Peach. He put so much care and effort into these books. Cause like the story is good not even just for a kids book. It's kinda long for kids. There's pages of just straight text with no pictures, but the language is simple enough for maybe 8-9+ year olds. The illustrations aren't just random they help you to follow the story. These books probably helped me and so many ppl transition to adult books because someone cared. Same with old school Nick Jr and PBS etc. TH-cam kuds already curates a little. I wish they really only let the best of the best on there. Like if they're gonna be iPad kids at least give them good content

@@NewSonyWonderHappyMadisonFan fair, but you can't deny that it's a little true. in my experience when I looked at kids content on the TV not even 7 years ago (when I was barely conscious) I remember it was undeniably better than the air generated and brainless things people make for kids nowadays. Sure, there's some older slop, and sure there some younger gems, but ultimately,as a genre, older kids content had more care put into it. You'd see more thought, planning, and making going into a singular 5 minutes segment of a single episode of Arthur than a whole 10 minute video of apples jumping around yelling letters in terrible high pitched voices and that's because the segments had people actually animating them whereas the 10 minute video was just a few animated pngs and terrible voice effects that probably took less time. There's just a certain disconnect, like old Disney movies compared to movies like Wish. Sure they might both be decent but you can't deny the thought and execution behind one was better than the other.
TL;DR: I call bull on that statement plus nobody said one was OBVIOUSLY better in EVERY CASE.

I get where she's coming from, but the thing with forbidden fruit is that it's always so much sweeter. Unless she's vetoing screens from the entire home, it's going to prove increasingly challenging, especially once he's exposed to peers who have access to TV. Look at any family who bans soda, junk food, privacy, video games, secular media - it either results in rebellion or repression and fear.
Having TV as an option, through a curated DVD collection (that's where you come in!), for limited amounts of time, could be incredibly useful. He'll be exposed to the thing, and begin to understand to enjoy things in moderation, and even learn new things from watching informative shows. Children's programming that focussed on teaching the audience how to do things RARELY had me parked in front of the screen - I'd be far more interested in trying my own hand at making puppets or building a blanket fort.

aside from the tablet stuff, as a 2010 kid, heard of people on tiktok that are my age that are saying they have relatives who are gen alpha that once got a death threat and I’ve seen a screen shot of two comments saying something like “gen alpha r🍇pe in 4k” and another one that’s like that but biting the curb. there are people out there bullying this generation on social media and like bro they just want a happy life. maybe we should focus on that too.
and btw about the tablet stuff, i used to have a tablet around these kids’ ages but there was no brainrot at the time is was the early 2010s when i was little so i had things like elmo loves abcs and stuff. and i would also watch kid shows on prime video when i was 5 too. but most of the gen alphas i see on tiktok are normal kids. some of them do have tablets, but they’re pretty much watching something else, so i’m hoping this generation does a successful job in life. plus there are also good modern shows other than bluey out there like ms rachel (for the babies), story bots answer time, and yo gabba gabbaland (i watched a few episodes of the yo gabba gabba reboot and i love it so much :3) they can watch that or the older kid shows or both

Yup, this is something I wish I talked about in more detail in the video but I forgot, but yea of course every generation has its brain rot, but I'd like to argue that due to the fast rise in technology, this type of "brain rot" can be generated faster and easier. And not only that, but because of the accessibility to multiple people, rather than just big corporations. Before at least u had a select few options for brain rot, but I feel that because of today's updated content creation methods(which still take a lot of time of course) we're seeing more overstimulating content simply because of the facts that it's easier to do so, hence the reason so many ppl watching the same cartoon created years ago vs now see a huge difference. Or maybe I'm just biased idk, I'll stop yapping now.

I really wish every creator of kid's content had the mindset that children deserve better than brainrot 😭 My favourite shows when I was younger actually made me learn things and helped to shape who I am today. Wild Kratts nourished my love for animals. Little Einsteins gave me an appreciation for art and classical music at a very young age. Word Girl helped me explore my interest of writing and learning new words. Hell, I think just about everything on TVO kids was great for learning while keeping you engaged!
It's not impossible to create media for kids that's simultaneously educational, stimulating, and made with a ton of heart and passion. I hope for a new golden age of children's content because they really do deserve better!

I remember as a kid I would watch an episode of a show and walk over to move onto the next activity very chill. My sister watched newer shows and when it was over she'd be hyper. She'd either want to run around and act wild, or keep watching it more and more. If I try to watch older stuff with her she'd be more calm, but she'd get bored quickly because it wasn't as exciting. The educational content is also less complex, the questions are easier, they don't ask as many questions. It really is a whole dofferent world now.

      2. It's not like there wasn't any slop back then either.
Also, Teddy Ruxpin was made to sell toys. It ain't better than Cocomelon.

I agree, there are plenty of good things around now. Adventure Time is a wonderfully imaginative and modern alternative to Teddy Ruxpin. But there is NO WAY you can tell me that Adventure Time's animation is anywhere NEAR what Teddy Ruxpin was hand painted with love to look like. Please. Go re-watch it. Or old Disney like The Last Unicorn. The animation was STELLAR. And now it's just AI generated blocky, over-saturated insta-ready content.
For me, my comment, and my interests regarding this topic, it's not about "kids stuff", it's about aestetics. I like good art, and think that good art is the basis of good nostalgia.
So, that said, if you know of a modern cartoon (non-anime - Japan still does a good job of aestetics) that has stupendous art, please put it in your reply

      2. Just because it's not cel animated doesn't mean it's bad.
      3. The Last Unicorn isn't Disney. It's made by Rankin-Bass (the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer people) and animated by Topcraft (basically Studio Ghibli before Studio Ghibli). It did get released on physical media two times by CBS/Fox Video in 1983 and 1985 but that was WAY before Disney bought 20th Century Fox.
      4. I'm not defending AI slop or Cocomelon in my comment.
      5. Idk Bluey, the Spiderverse movies, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish are pretty good modern kids media.

As a new Aunt myself, I agree that kids deserve better. They need better content than this brainrot. I swear, we need a law or something that bans brainrot content for kids, because this is unacceptable.
I’m so glad you mentioned some of my childhood classics, Bluesclues, and especially Backyardigans that show was so good, omg, it’s probably the reason why i love all these different types of music, I’m so ticked off by the reboot they made, they not only butchered the source material, they dishonored the original creator who sadly passed away a month before they uploaded the reboot. Im working on getting into animation, and I would love to make cartoons someday, not only ones that kids can enjoy, but for everyone to enjoy, because, say it with me now, Animation is a form of Art, and is meant to be enjoyed by everyone regardless of age. So stop stigmatizing animation is “just for kids” because it’s not, it’s for everyone. And stop thinking that just because you’re making kids shows, you can be lazy with it. Stop. Being. Lazy. Don’t make me call Sporticus! Because you should never be lazy with this type of content, but some effort into it! For crying out loud…kids deserve better. I’m not gonna let my nephew, and yet to be born niece, watch this garbage…they deserve better!

I do agree to a extent but from the perspective of a neurodivergent parent with neurodivergent kids I do think there is a place for some of the simplistic and predictable storylines. I know for myself and my kids sometimes these can be an escape from the overstimulation and unpredictability of life. Not to say that I want all the creativity and life sucked out of everything I just think there's a place for both if that makes sense 😊

I noticed even before we had cable, so when I was only 4-5, I would get SO INSULTED by kid's shows that patronized the viewer or talked down to me... I'm young, not mindless. I liked calm kid's shows like Bear in the Bog Blue House or Steve on Blue's Clues (happy you mentioned him too!!!), soft-spoken and calm or needing help, but not talking to us in a high-pitched, cutesy way, ew.
I also tended to refuse shows if the art style was too "ugly," but also, I was paintng and drawing since I was little until now (I remember I only tuned into As Told By Ginger when I was older when I heard it and enjoyed listening to it before turning and realizing it was that ugly chin-mouth Klasky-Csupo show.)
Note: my brother and I are autistic and learned to read/write at age three, plus, we both grew up with a lot of tech, but also, I loved swimming and wandering around and playing in the dirt. Tomboyish!
It's true kid's shows from the past generally had a higher quality and good messages or an educational element, even when it wasn't solely educational.
The colour difference is also due to digital colouring compared to the degraded transfer from casettes. But it's true, also, even if you got higher quality remastered copies, the colours were more natural... I love traditional animation and anime with those old watercolour backgrounds. I liked more muted colours too, but I was quite a sad child and by 11 (so I preferred older Pokemon episodes in terms of style *and* colour... it did get more beautiful later, in terms of many details, but still rather bright), dull colours felt realistic to me. I ddin't see the world in much colour and that's still true. Rarely do I see vivid colour, then, things look muted and greyish.

I think what annoys me the most about iPad babies is that if you really need to distract them for a little while, I think a toy would work just fine. We know by now that TH-cam Kids is horribly unregulated, what’s the point in letting them watch that completely unsupervised when you can just sit them down and have them watch a Disney movie or literally anything that’s at least confirmed to be fine for kids.
When I was a kid, if I wanted something fun, I played with my toys, if my parents wanted to distract me for a while, they would put on a movie (which can be done even if your outside nowadays.)
I like how you mentioned that cartoons nowadays feel a bit overstimulating. Me and my brother rewatched Thomas and Friends and the earlier seasons are so nice! Feels like someone’s reading you a bedtime story lol. I didn’t really like loud cartoons when I was a kid and was especially happy for the shows that were a bit more mellow. I think there should more shows to help kids wind down. Back when I was a lot younger I saw a lot of stuff aimed at kids my age that were getting louder and more busy and it definitely grabbed my attention. I’m glad I grew up before I had to deal with a minefield of loud noises and bright colors.

i say this while feeling that life is trauma and recovering from seeing social interaction as abuse because we are all way too screwed up to know what's best for those kids. maybe they should get left outside and not have any screens, and then give them screens later as if they were just invented. maybe they should live out history so it means something to them when they learn about it in school. whatever it is its not living digitally and becoming a tiktoker when they grow up.

I hate the way everything is going now with people deciding to use artificiality to "create" (steal and make worse) with no genuine human thought, and of course what's coming out in general. Plus I would think some children should be able to distinct what's real and what isn't or shouldn't be or detect when it clearly feels uncanny, I don't know if I'm explaining myself right. On the other hand, I really appreciated the talk about shows like the original Blue's Clues and Backyardigans (those were just a few of my all time favorites, especially Backyardigans), another show we can't seem to get something similar to anymore is Reading Rainbow, with a calm host (or at least as the show progressed, LeVar was more calm/level with the viewer and less "announcer"-like? not sure how to describe it) and a focus on reading.

You saying that kids can’t see until 5 months took me back to when an early intervention therapist tried to gaslight me and say my nearly 2 year old “couldn’t see what we see on a tv” and “couldn’t understand the show”. Which was horseshit, because how did my kid along with every other kid in a world know that their favorite characters are on the screen and would go grab toys or plush of said character? How do I remember being that age and clearly watching Rugrats?
That was a wonderful way to ensure I never trust anyone. She was a crunchy hippie who hated technology. No one has your interest at heart, only their own.

tbh I dont think gen alpha is "doomed" like people say they are and I agree that the content sucks but gen alpha isnt gonna "ruin society" cuz gen z is exactly the same I mean for example: the iPad came out in like 2010 and many gen z people had an iPad when they were like 6 and look at them now they are smart functioning adults or how people complain about how the content is weird and bad when gen z used to watch things like Elsa gate, mlg videos, weird fans animations and things like the gummy bear song (not to mention all the videos of people cutting their arms off) and even cocomelon only came out in 2016 and even then they were getting millions of views or how skibidi toilet is exactly the same as good videos from 2013 and I can go on and on but thats not all cuz also the humour is fine too cuz like all gen alpha humour is is some silly words that dont make sense but sounds funny and if anything its the opposite of gen alpha being doomed cuz since theres so much more technology and stuff now and they can easily use things all this technology at like the age at 5 imagine what they can do in the future so truth is: gen alpha isnt doomed gen z is just acting skibidi in the head (I study yapeology)

I thought this was thoughtfully organized. Great job out there. Lots of good points. It's the adults making thi, and then we blame them for it. Most adults cannot fight their addictions. How can we expect children to do it when we shove it in their face? 😢

I'm fine with skibidi toilet series, gen alpha slangs, and gen alpha memes, but i'm not okay with kids buying sephora products and skincare/adult makeup products, gen alpha kids watching cocomelon, gen alpha kids watching sigma male edits/podcasts, gen alpha kids watching nsfw content farms, gen alpha kids watching content farms, gen alpha kids watching OF models that promote their content to them, and gen alpha kids watching inappropriate videos, and also i'm not okay with parents treating their kids like they are friends and not teaching them any responsibilities/morals, and i'm also not okay with gen alpha kids watching content farms abusing animals in real life.

This might not be fully related but everytime I see dinosaur content for children they never use scientifically up to date depictions, it diverts them to thinking that animals like dinosaurs were nothing but movie monsters, they should be shown like actual animals

I appreciate that the host of the new Blues Clues is Filipino, and it’s even discussed in some episodes (I have a toddler so I’ve seen some episodes). I agree he is overly friendly, but it’s a lot better than Blippi…
My favorite shows for her (she’s almost 3) are Peppa Pig and Paddington Bear. Paddington in particular is just so wholesome and not too stimulating. We limit phone and tablet time to mostly nothing, though.
She gets a few minutes on the phone when we’re brushing her teeth, and a little bit of iPad time when I do her hair, and that’s pretty much it. Otherwise she watches the tv, usually the shows previously mentioned, and most days she gets 30 minutes or so, some days nothing.

Sigh.... Children's content nowadays such as Cocomelon has no personality! It is so bland and boring! There is something about the graphics that just don't sit right with me... That characters are just the same model, but modified slightly! It makes children's content from 20 year ago look like some of most sophisticated stuff I've ever seen! Take Bob the Builder from 1999-2009 for instance! That TV show focuses on the livelihood of adults constructing houses with machines that are filled with such personality! Seeing that as a kid made me feel super adventurous! It was also my introduction to stop motion animation and it actually makes me want to so stop motion! Talk about inspiration! I would never ever be the adult that I am now if it was not for what I viewed during childhood!

Bro I’m ever so grateful my baby was not Interested in coco melon, he loves bluey and Mickey Mouse club house. And I’ve been trying to get him into ms. Rachel cuz she’s genuinely so educational and has taught a lot of kids how to do sign language etc , it’s really sad seeing parents just raise iPad babies, not caring what it’s going to do to them as adults.

agree 100%. i could say so much about this topic but i dont wanna write a comment essay lol
all i will say though is, thinking about why shows like spongebob or phineas and ferb were perfect (at least in the 90s-2000s, i dont watch the newer stuff) and why this content isnt.... its just sad really! i blame the internet enabling it all. back then it was just tv shows, which had to be approved to air in the first place, and continuously regulated with each episode made. youtube kids doesn't have that regulation, and by the father son and holy spirit oh my GOD we need regulation. PLEASE youtube kids are literally growing underdeveloped cus of this shit.

    • @siribubz
      @siribubz หลายเดือนก่อน

if youtube kids WAS regulated more like a tv channel, things would be better. as in only a very strictly selected handful of creators who actually care about what theyre making, with strict rules and regulations about what can and cant be shown, things would look so much different. but since literally anyone and everyone in the world can upload there, even with current moderation it's still so... bad. it's bad! brainrot is more than just a meme word bro im genuinely convinced gen alpha will be mentally underdeveloped as teens and adults cus of this shit

I feel like kids show are losing soul? If that makes sense , for example fifi & the flower tots and nanaland have time and energy put into it and it shows (esp when in interviews n such) even tho it's for kids. Kids deserve better media, just bright colours with constant stimulation and loud sounds are so constant to keep them entertained instead of an actual story and look that is interesting for kids

Maybe I'm biased bc I'm Autistic and I'm not a little kid, but the overstimulating bright colors and face pacing makes me so pissed off it makes me wanna punch a hole in my wall.
And the soulless AI content, and the boring, bright, plastic generic art styles makes everything look so boring. Like I miss it when shows had just enough color to stimulate kids but they also had unique art styles and the shows were actually meaningful.
I grew up with the show "My Little Pony". Yes it had bright colors but it wasn't overstimulating. And it wasn't just a show to "keep the kids entertained." No, it actually provided valuable lessons and it was memorable. I wish more shows were like that.
Is any Gen Alpha kid gonna look back on Cocomelon and be like "Wow, I remember watching this growing up, it was so memorable." Like.. Are they really gonna look back on it and feel nalstogia the same way we do? Or are they just gonna look back on it and throw it under the rug?
