I have a Sony a6000 and bene trying to take self portraits of me and my husband , but pics are out of focus .. your pictures came out great but what you just explained seems confusing .. is there a simpler way you could tell me what setting/mode my camera should be on when taking self portraits plz and thank you.

Thanks, did not know about recall, helps from when I'm going from outside to in. I shoot M with auto iso and I have to crank up the shutter outside, then go inside and I get too high iso because I forgot to reduce my shutter speed. I wish M with auto iso had an override when going outside with a 160th. My exposure gets blown out and have to crank up to 1000th.

5:32 I just got burned with that on a trip. My camera didn’t have a sd card. By the time I realized it, too late 😢. Great tips.

Great video even though it made me think even more about my decision :) I am thinking of upgrading my R6(v1) to an R3 and I shoot mostly Crossfit and Weightlifting. I don't do to much video, just some reels and hype-clips. Is it worth spending around trading in my R6 for and R3 and spendning around 45000 usd in between?

I love this lens!!! I use it for portraiture work and man it is the Best!!! I do not need to change lenses which I truly felt always interrupted the flow of my session!! Before I was constantly saying "yes let's get this shot but let me switch my lens!!" Total Buzz Kill!!! haha - It is a heavy lens but I workout so it doesn't phase me and I always hear from someone during a shoot "Now I see how you are so muscular!!" 😂😂

I 100% agree, imitation in the begining is everything and after you learn the "skill" that is when you can grow and develop those skills into your own style. Great job getting out there and trying something new

I have basically all primes, and those RF primes are incredible. However, sometimes I find myself in situations where I'm regularly swapping lenses to get a different look and I feel like it hurts the flow of the session with a model if I'm swapping lenses frequently to try things out. I'm very tempted to try out the RF 28-70 f2. The primes are magical, but a zoom that feels like a prime lens might be a better option for me in a lot of situations.

6:27 Get a fuji x100VI instead. 1) cheaper even with scalpers markup. 2)no blown highlights 3) customizable film sims give you YOUR look, not Leica’s. 4) can customize all dials or leave it as simple as a leica. 5) wcl-100 turns it into a 28mm 6) fast camera 7) better AF 8) fuji makes film AND cameras, and you benefit.

4:00 I wish leica would do something similar to fuji’s to protect highlights. On fujis its called the dr400 mode, In short, DR400 mode distributes the exposure more evenly thru the exposure of the images, removing the necessity of underexposing for highlights. It does this by requiring you to shoot at iso 640 or higher. This allows the camera to underexpose the hi lights of an image at iso 160, while boosting the mid tones and shadows…. basically what you eventually do in post if you underexposed your images. It does all of these calculations prior to the analog to digital conversion, so it works in RAW!

its been pretty hard to find videos with utilizing the flip screen to assist in talking self mode photos,... a video on that would be great, as its kind of a defining factor right now for me to switch from dslr to mirrorless

Number 4 also works for other buttons, not just back AF button! I set a custom eye tracking mode to the * button, right beside back AF button! :-) Otherwise I use my camera in traditional focusing mode. Also I set One Shot - Servo change to MFn2 in the front. I wish 1 or 2 more programmable button, but even like this R3 is a beast! :-)

The R3 is better than the A9III when it comes to both DR and high ISO performance. The BSI stacked sensor in the R3 is good enough to kill nearly all rolling shutter from my experiences (I shoot a lot of BIFs) so the GS in the A9III isn't something special in my eyes unless you shoot sports and have neon signs always in the background of your images. The high FPS isn't something that interests me either. 140fps is just idiotically crazy in my eyes. No thank you. As to LUT and CLOG2 not being in the R3 - CrippleHammer™ baby!!! Canon must protect their cinema line (insert sarcasm quotes LOL). Yes, I do agree that 36mp would have been a much better compromise for the R3, but to be bluntly honest, Canon is seriously behind in the sensor design wars (vs Sony). Sony is toying with Canon in this respect. I love the high ISO performance of my R3, but having only 24mp really hurts when it comes to birding photography. If you can get close to the bird, it's not so bad. But cropping...it's not great or ideal.

Hi Josh, firstly, thank you for this tutorial. I have watched this over and over and waiting for the arrival of my R3. I have the 5/6/7 so not totally unfamiliar with mirrorless. I plan on using the R3 for team sports (baseball, basketball, etc.). I am not a fan of BBF but looking at your video, it seems like you have the shutter button programmed to basically enable all kinds of tracking modes. So with spot focusing, does it mean that once I have my spot on the player I want to track, and keeping the shutter button half way pressed, the camera will continue to track using subject detection and focus with AI Servo? Coming from 1DX II that I used for many years, where I basically tracked manually using a small cluster of focus points. Does this make sense? Thanks again.
