    This is a SPORTS CAMERA. And that is what I absolutely use it for and nothing else. Its does high speed sports extremely well. Video stuff, I dont even use on this camera. I actually use a different camera for my video needs. Don't forget that this camera is basically a 1 Series Camera in disguise. I don't need a camera to do everything great. I just need one to do one particular specified job really great, and the Canon R3 fits that bill.

    I'm a hybrid shooter and can't jive with Sony or Nikon ergos, plus I don't find their AF as fast or reliable. It never overheats, has natural colors, feels so good in hand and, I have a bunch of L glass. So, it's a no brainer. Did I mention being a platinum CPS member with almost concierge service? Can the FX3 take sports or important photos? Can you tell what you are doing in the sunlight with out an EVF? Do you ever use eye-controlled AF? Internal Raw is Clog2, btw. Anyways, you can't go wrong these days with these all these brands, it's just preference,. it's like do you like driving a BMW, Audi or Mercedes.

    Great video even though it made me think even more about my decision :)
    I am thinking of upgrading my R6(v1) to an R3 and I shoot mostly Crossfit and Weightlifting. I don't do to much video, just some reels and hype-clips.
    Is it worth spending around trading in my R6 for and R3 and spendning around 45000 usd in between?

      It's not stacked, which means you can't shoot silent action, also, for whatever reason, R62 can't shoot DCI video.

      Sure! Not even close in performance, DR, ISO, huge differences! 😊only the mpx number. By far Canon’s best sensor.

    Thanks. I bought it primarily for sports and weddings, but was hoping to get a chance at video. Canon does always seem to cripple the video a bit on their still shot cameras but was hoping this would be good enough. Have enjoyed the few slow motions I've captured but looking at the menus, came to realize I know nothing about video formats and things. I cant afford to add a Sony for video yet so the R3 is it. Can you recommend a source for learning about that? Book? Video series.?

      I have a couple videos specifically about that here on the channel! Here’s my basics of videography video (th-cam.com/video/rTsUqPVah1I/w-d-xo.html) and I also have a video specifically on the best video settings for the R3 (th-cam.com/video/e9RjGs3uh9Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rCn6eg5dNR8eEdSk). Hope that helps!

      @@joshrexford Oh. thank you so much! Perfectly tuned to someone breaking into video. Example take aways: 1) There is a reason for NDF's and I will probably need one before shooting video outside. 2) Loved the idea of commiting my C-modes to std vs slo-mo. That fits a real, practical need. Similar re the start/stop AF function. 3) I appreciate the advice on picture style tweeking as a poor-man's C-LOG. A little scary to cripple the "neutral" like that but I'll take your word for it. 4) Now I know what "ALL-I" is and why people prefer it. 5) Now understand how shutter speed fits into video. Makes sense (thank you). And so on....
      Thanks for making that and for sending the link. Have a good day.

    Great video. Need advice, im looking t o purchase either the R5 or the R3. I do a lot of landscape and portrait photography and the occassional airshow. What camera would you recommend? I am currently using the discontinued 7D and it still works like a charm. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @LukeChristopherPhoto

      I have both, each has their speciality, but the R3 is my go to.

    • @joshrexford
      @joshrexford  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think you'd be super happy with either one, especially coming from the 7D. The R5 would be great for the extra resolution but the autofocus and sheer speed of the R3 could really help at airshows...ultimately up to you. For the price and since you mentioned you mostly do landscape and portraits, I'd probably lean towards R5...but you wouldn't be at all unhappy with the R3 either.

    • @LukeChristopherPhoto
      @LukeChristopherPhoto 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Sorry ,forgot to mention, if you want to use the electronic shutter and get 30fps, the R3 sensor is stacked and you don't get rolling shutter. But you won't be able to crop as much as the R5. If you need reach, shoot R5 in mechanical shutter since there is no rolling shutter.

    Thanks a lot for your great content ♥️♥️ I have one question and hopefully you can help me with an answer:
    I got canon r3 for video travel vlogging and I bought lens RF 15-35 f2.8 and I’m so confused which other lenses it can help me with my vlogs so there’s some options please give me the best options and with reasons:
    1- RF 70-200 f2.8
    2- RF 50 f1.2
    3- RF 24-70 f2.8
    4- RF 28-70 f2.0
    5- RF 85 f1.2
    And it will be great if you recommend for me best memory cards as well CFEXPRESS AND SD NORMAL CARDS
    I’m looking for best quality and Buka or best depth of field and I’m using gimbal RS3 pro
    Thanks a lot and hopefully you can understand my english because it’s not my main language ☺️🥰

    • @joshrexford
      @joshrexford  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So glad you've found my videos helpful! In terms of other lenses, that choice really depends on what focal lengths you want to shoot. The 15-35 that you own is fantastic for vlogging, landscape shots, street photography...anything you'd want wide-angle shots of, but obviously falls short for anything you'd want a tighter focal length (like portraits, wildlife, etc).
      The 24-70 is a great all-arounder lens that will give you a great medium range, the 28-70 would be great if you need the extra stop of light over the 24-70 (and the f/2 would give you better bokeh), while the 70-200 would be perfect if you want to shoot anything at a distance. The two primes on your list (the 50 and 85) are also great lenses but will be a bit less versatile since they're locked to one focal length...BUT you'd be getting the added benefit of incredible low-light performance and the extra DOF/Bokeh with those lenses. Ultimately, you'll have to make the decision on what the best lens for you is...but hopefully that helps!
      As per SD cards and all that, I have the cards (and all the gear I use) all cataloged on my Amazon storefront, I'll drop a link here for you: amzn.to/3UAVRFI

    Bought this camera because as a video camera, Sure it's designed for high speed subjects but its video capabilities outclasses even the R5C in many respects. 10x better battery life, Superior ergonomics. It's extremely rugged. Sure it doesn't shoot 8k but 6k 60 RAW internally without over heating sounds like a camera that's well rounded aside from the price of course.

    Lack of raw burst/pre release seems a major hindrance to get certain kinds of shots.

      @joshrexford  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pre-release is such a cool feature, definitely wish I had that on the R3! Raw burst though, the R3 can shoot bursts of 50 raw images at 195fps which is more than sufficient for anything I need

    I pre-ordered the R3 also and have been using it since it was released. The R3 is the easiest and most versatile camera I have ever used. I will pick up a second one before football starts again in the fall. I have since added an RF 24-105 f/2.8 to my kit. That makes the R3 and this new lens an absolute beast for shooting gym sports. I sorta feel like I am cheating because this combination is so good.
    Your click-bait question about it still being relevant in 2024 is interesting. Sure, Canon could do some firmware updates for the R3, but in reality, Canon is going to have a hard time improving on the R3 as a sports machine to convince many shooters to upgrade to a new body. Keep in mind that the cost of LED lighting is falling, allowing more and more facilities to improve their lighting. This, in turn, will diminish the need for better ISO performance in cameras. I shot some photos a few weeks back in a small rural high school gym, for instance, where I was able to shoot basketball with my 1dmk4 and a 70-200 @ f/3.2, 1/1600, ISO 6400. My point is that indoor lighting is improving so fast that it is certainly impacting the sports camera market. The R3 may be about as far as anyone needs to go for indoor sports given my lighting argument

    I would take issue with your comparison with the R6ii It isn't the same sensor No BSI and not stacked. The processor is far quicker.; in continuous burst the R3 will actually beat the R6ii 40fps due to buffering. please get your facts right

    • @joshrexford
      @joshrexford  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah my apologies on the “same sensor” phrasing - I meant same MP, not identical sensor but 100% phrased that wrong. Obviously the R3 is a better system overall and it’s still the best photo camera I’ve ever used - all I was attempting to say was that there’s definitely some close competition in the R6II and for many, the huge price gap might not be worth it.
      Thanks for the comment!

    The R3 is better than the A9III when it comes to both DR and high ISO performance. The BSI stacked sensor in the R3 is good enough to kill nearly all rolling shutter from my experiences (I shoot a lot of BIFs) so the GS in the A9III isn't something special in my eyes unless you shoot sports and have neon signs always in the background of your images.
    The high FPS isn't something that interests me either. 140fps is just idiotically crazy in my eyes. No thank you.
    As to LUT and CLOG2 not being in the R3 - CrippleHammer™ baby!!! Canon must protect their cinema line (insert sarcasm quotes LOL).
    Yes, I do agree that 36mp would have been a much better compromise for the R3, but to be bluntly honest, Canon is seriously behind in the sensor design wars (vs Sony). Sony is toying with Canon in this respect. I love the high ISO performance of my R3, but having only 24mp really hurts when it comes to birding photography. If you can get close to the bird, it's not so bad. But cropping...it's not great or ideal.
