In High School I was in choir, and we had "tests" in the form of quartets. I was fine singing in choir, but I could not sing solo (as in the only one singing my part). I would get up there, and no sounds would come out My choir director tried having us do our quartets in a little storage room, still no dice. I still can't sing if I'm worried about being judged. I'm fine speaking in front of people, but singing? Nope. Can't do it.💜

I started learning to play piano when I was about 8, when a family friend replaced their piano and gave us their old one with lessons. Then I learned to play guitar when I was 12, the summer after my dad died. Despite four years more experience with piano, I can’t do anything else while I play. I can sing along just fine while playing guitar, but if I’m playing piano and someone asks me the name of the song, I can’t even answer them without stopping or messing it up. Then at 17, I taught myself to play the harmonica, but I’ve never mastered singing along with that either for some reason.

Dang. I played Maple Leaf Rag at that same age. (Of course, I also, that same summer, played piano reductions of right about the entire Nutcracker Suite too.... but, then again, I went on to major in piano, so... )

I loved this! Thank you so much Huldra for these wonderful snippets you get for us and I love your little comments, you & I most definitely share the same sense of humor. This was so cute and as you said, Geoff has obviously always been a perfectionist. I'm the same way & yup, it's a definite character trait. As so many others have said though, sometimes I just want to shake Geoff and force him to brag just once!

Introducing himself to Adams Family.... He would expect it to be boring (even then) because the rhythm never changes. Duh duh duh DUH. Four beats, short thoughts. Maple Leaf Rag would allow so much more creativity. I wish he remembered the lyrics he used. Thanx, Huldra, I appreciate the insights!!

Thanks Huldra for sharing this with us! Geoff is beyond amazing and so incredibly humble! Even in middle school he was playing piano very well and arranging music/lyrics and was a perfectionist.I am not at all surprised that he was that talented at such a young age!!! HE IS PERFECTION!!!!❤

OMG. Ragtime is HARD!!! I can't believe he switched from a very simple musical number to RAGTIME. And in MIDDLE SCHOOL! Oh my lord, so many pieces falling into place here... WOW!!

Wow, ragtime seems so difficult! They got the best at the last. But we don't know what he sang about himself. Was it just not memorable? I know my memories are spotty, too. Old age. Well, cool, anyway.

Geoff has been blessed with a wonderful gift and is just amazing and so humble.
